over 7 years after this video was posted and it's still helping people. bless you for this
9 years now, lol
10 years now
10 years now
11years lol
It’s crazy that even 8 years later your video is helping people.
Ikr I was reading the excerpt my professor assigned, and didn’t understand the story until this vid.
omg!! thank you so much.!! I am an international student In ELAC. I read the story 3 times!! Can't figure out what the hell they were talking about... When the professor asked me what they are talking about, I answered "tattoo" . Worst day of my life
Lorance Luo I didn't understand it either even after reading it twice. One of my classmates had to explain it to me. I felt like a dunce.
😂
😂👍
lol
I'm so happy that this helped you! Hemingway is tough because his dialogue can be cryptic. He uses "sub-text," which means that the characters imply a lot rather than saying things directly. The reader has to infer and "hear" what they are REALLY saying by "reading between the lines." A challenge!
I wish I had a video on "A Clean, Well-lighted Place" for you. That's a good suggestion for the next one! Thanks.
So I was in mid anxiety attack because I couldn’t understand this story and I had a deadline, and then like an angel you came upon my feed and save me so thank you very much 😊
REALLY good explanation! I am so terrible at deciphering these stories but you made it so clear and simple. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!
You're welcome!
I love how you explain the theme and symbols in the story! Great job and thank you very much!
10 years and on. This video helped me understand the story better.
tnx for removing confuses. I really started to think a real white elephant in the story.
I love you!! You explain things so clearly. Never stop doing these videos! Because I can truly say that your videos help so many people have a better understanding of these complicated stories.
Jazmin Hernandez Thank you so much! I'm so glad these are useful!
You have gotten me through sooo many English assignments even when I understand the story I watch your videos.
I can't believe that you are helping nearly all my assignments get done.
Many compliments!
she posted this video n Dec 2012 and it is helping me now in 2021 with my college English class, Thank you God bless you, stay safe.
It actually was like a whole novel in a short story. I like the theme, the simpliciity of Hemingway, and especially your walking us through it to see the different layers of it. Thank yoU !
Yes, I agree! The train station definitely represents a transition for both of them! I guess the man thinks that other people in the station were waiting "reasonably", because unlike the other people are all heading to whatever amazing journey, their relationship will probably end up afterwards..
WELL-EXPLAINED !! THANK YOU SO MUCH !! HOPE THIS CAN HELP FOR MY REPORTING TOMORROW !!
You're welcome! Hope it helps!
This brings so much clarity to me about the point of the story! Thank you so much for helping me understand.
You're welcome! Glad to help!
You always help me get through my college classes. Thank you so much! You explain things better than all my professors.

12 YEARS LATER. Thank you!!!!!
I know this is practically 9 years old, but this has helped tremendously. Thank you, you are so helpful!
Very well stated. I have read and studied this story continually since high school and you elaborated beautifully upon the characters' psychology, which of course is the meat of the story itself. Thank you.
You're welcome! Thanks for such thoughtful comments. :-)
This is relaxing to listen too
THANK YOU SO MUCH, you have helped me so much with my English class. You're great at this!!! You're amazing!

Oh my gosh! This was so helpful. Thank you so much. It can be so hard for me to see all the symbolic meaning in a short story such as this. Thank you! This makes my comprehension a lot easier!
You're welcome! I'm so glad this helped. This story is a challenge all right. :-)
Very clear and informative, thanks for this
You are right, this story IS confusing the first time through. :) Thank you so much for helping me gain a better level of understanding on this.

I love all of your insight on short story fiction. You have helped me lots.
Thanks for doing these videos. Your all your analysis are great, and you're fantastic.
Thank you so much for this video. The first time I read through this I honestly had no idea what was going on but you made it so clear and concise. Thanks again.
I read this story twice and tried to figure out if I was missing something. I was, I missed the whole thing. First I thought it was about them drinking absinthe, then I re read and found something about an operation, thinking maybe breast implants, or something, but it wasn't an option when this story was written. So I Googled around a bit and found this video and it cleared it up completely. Thanks!
Omg!!!! U r such a sweetheart!!! How sweetly you make me understand this confusing story!!! Thank you 😊😊😊
I just found your videos and I'm truly thankful you've taken the time to make them. I have such trouble understanding Hemingway and had drawn my own conclusion, but watching this made it so clear. :D
Sometimes it just takes another's thoughts to make it all clear. :) I also watched your video over Everyday Use by Alice Walker. You did wonderful on it. After watching and then reading it once again it all clicked! :)
Thank you and I'm suggesting your videos to my friend. :)
You just cleared a lot of question marks around my head, thanks.
I appreciate the videos and the knowledge. Keep it the great work.
I didn't know that the story was this deep. Thanks for the explanation! Keep on making analysis videos!
This certainly helped me here in AZ. Now I know why the teacher told us to NOT wait until the night before to write our papers. I appreciate it!
I'm so glad this helped you! Good luck with that paper!
Thank you SOOOO much! All of your videos are like magic! I listen to you and BOOM! I understand everything so much better!
Interesting! My take on it is that the man in the story is not ready for marriage and a family. I don't know if he still thinks she should have the baby, but I'm not seeing excitement on his side. He could be down on one knee proposing to her or saying, "We'll make this work," but he isn't. He's hesitating and distancing himself. He's not in a father mode. What do you think?
Thank you ma'am your a big help to my studies especially Literature
Thanks! I could make a case for either one being more mature. He is against starting a family because he is realistic about the limits of this relationship, right? She is for having a child because she is in touch with the child, the life inside her. So the reader is left in a conflict, much as the characters are, trying to decide which is the more adult way to look at this. Does this help?
Thank you so much for making your videos! Every story iv had to read for my English class you have done a explanation about and it has truly helped me!!
I like the way you explained this story. I'm doing it for one of my college classes. I have an oral presentation tomorrow !
Thanks! I hope to post more videos soon. Hope your paper was great!
You're so welcome! I'm glad that these videos are useful to you. That makes my day!
You are the best!!! I was so confused because I seen they said operation but couldnt figure it out. Thanks so much!!!!
Thank you so much! I couldn't figure out what the procedure was about
Thank you so much. I've watched 3 or 4 of you videos, and they are really helping me out in my English class. thanks so much.
You're very welcome. So glad to help!
Wow, thanks! You made my day! I'm so glad that this helped you. :-)
I really liked what you said about them being at a train station, and that's a place where you stop and move on. I didn't see it like that, too bad I already submitted my paper like a week ago, that would have really made a point. Cool video! Have a good one and post more! :)
I know I'm late to this video, but I am currently working on a paper and this helped a lot. Thank you so much. : )
MIND BLOWING!! WILL 100% GET AN A AFTER THIS🥺💖💖
Thank you so much, I was confused when I read it for the first time.
Thank you so much for making this video. I read the story several times to find out the meaning of the word 'operation', but poor me I did not find. Now I got it. operation - abortion.
i was unable to grasp the messege in this one i reread it like 5 times all.i can see is that theres a stain on the relationship and she seems to be stuck but i couldnt figure out why until your explanation it makes sense now THANK YOU!!
damian herrera You're welcome!
Your explanation was really helpful to understand that story, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Good clarification of the story, but I was really looking for more of an example on analysis.
Good question! I'd say that the ending smile is a fake one. She isn't "fine" at all. Carrying the bags to the other side is a practical thing; they need to move the suitcases to where the train will be. However, we can looks at this as a metaphor, too. They will leave this place, having "crossed over" into a new understanding about the relationship. A doomed relationship, I think.
Professor, this is what I thought it was, but she was more political than I was in my thoughts, but the same ending.
It was very good video and thank you. A great way to do the lesson.
Oh my goodness thank you so much for this! You're explaination made me understand this story so much more! Keep up the amazing work! :D
Thank you this was very helpful and you do a very good job at explaining love the pace.
This was a phenomenal analysis!! Thank you!
Thank you so much!! viewed it one night before I could appear for my exam! X_X ! really helpful!! Thanks! all the way from INDIA!
Yes, yes! I'm glad you brought up these ideas. All of these make sense, and I'm liking your "brown and dry" idea especially!
Are there other stories that take this kind of 3rd person objective (for lack of a better description) format? I keep searching, but this is the only one that keeps coming up.
Thank you so much! This will be a big help for my English exam tomorrow!
Yes! I think you're spot on. It's her decision, but he's clearly pushing for having it done. He wants to appear reasonable, but this couple is not ready to become a family.
You're godsend lmao every single text I need explained. I always stumble on your videos
Thank you SO much😭❤️ This video cleared up so many questions for me and gave me a lot of ideas for how i wanna go about my upcoming essay.
I'm so glad!
amazing analysis
this is an amazing analysis
Thank you for you're insight, bless you! awesome work
I just want you to know how much you have helped me! thank you so much!!
Thanks a lot! This really helped me with my studies. When I first read the story I kind of expected the operation to be an abortion, but I wasn't sure. Thanks again.
Love from Sweden.
