@siz1700 the biggest issue is not porting Wine or Proton, you can just compile them from source and have a native ARM version, the biggest problem is getting Steam client on ARM as well as games. Currently probably no games support ARM so they have to run through box64 or other emulation software, and I think, Wine or Proton should also run under them and it's unavoidable. Just making games native for Linux would cut the layer requirement just to box64.

Still question to why need virtualization for that. When android is built on linux kernel and you can today run linux natively and with gpu acceleration, through termux. Also with termux:X11, to run xfce, for example. And that runs on android terminal. Also you can install proot distro, like debian But seeing that android is improving in something like this is cool
I'm not sure with this one but I'm guessing that virtualization is mostly for safety reasons, just like testing in a VM on a PC to avoid issues. Also as far as im aware most mobile processors run ARM as their architecture and Google may want to add an option for it to toggle a translation layer for the architecture which means more compatibility and all that stuff? Those are just my speculations however I think it makes sense for them to make it like that to open up some possibilities later on. We also should keep in mind that it's still being introduced, so we never know. I've got high hopes for this, let them cook.
i think security is the main reason why they use vm for the linux environment rather than using the system, because imagine if you have banking apps, then your friend is expert in linux, it could easily be cracked

Oh, no way! I might genuinely pick up a Pixel for this, wow! If external USB hubs work, I'd be able to get some desktop work done, on the go! I'm super excited for this 😁
USB device passthrough into Linux doesn't work perfectly in ChromeOS. It may seem to work when you first connect the USB device, but it randomly disappear from Linux as you are using it. Also, the RAM available to Linux is very much reduced as ChromeOS and Android system/apps use them up. The OS already uses up a few GB, and for example, if you open a few tabs in Chrome, the free RAM for Linux may decrease by 6 GB, and there is no way to release the RAM even after closing Chrome unless you sign out and log in again.
If you do not use USB passthrough on external drive, the drive content appears at /mnt/chromeos/removable/ in Linux. (This is the path ChromeOS uses; it may be different for Android.) In this case, it is stable and doesn't disappear randomly.
This will be so cool ,especially for developers who work on programs like Blender who arnt interested in porting and maintaining mobile versions of their apps and for kids that dont have PCs or cant afford but can get their hands on phones ,which is easier.
