Koh Chang (เกาะช้าง) - Koh Chang is a beautiful jungle island in the Trat province of Thailand. It’s quite close to the mainland, and it’s a big enough island where you can take your car across the ferry to the island so that you can drive there. This was my first time to visit Koh Chang. I really wanted to explore the eastern side of the island, which is less visited and less developed to check out some food and fishing villages.
Kai Bae Beach - We started off at Kai Bae Beach.
Nong Anat Khao Gaeng (น้องอานัสข้าวแกงปักษ์ใต้) - This street food stall sells amazing southern Thai food curries, and this is where we first stopped for breakfast.
Beef dry curry (คั่วกลิ้งเนื้อ)
Beef soup (ซุปเนื้อ)
Dried fried fish (ปลาแดดเดียวทอด)
Total price - 190 THB ($$6.08)
The Coffee Home - Coffee wasn’t very good, but the scenery was great.
Americano - 60 THB ($1.92)
Coconut Organic Garden - This place is a must stop in Koh Chang. He’s such a friendly passionate man, who takes pride in his fruit, and he’ll serve you an amazing coconut shake.
Total price - 100 THB ($3.20)
Salak Khok (ชุมชนบ้านสลักคอก) - This is one of the few remaining traditional Koh Chang island fishing villages, and it’s a great place to see local life and take a walk.
Sakak Khok Seafood (สลักคอกซีฟู้ด) - One of the ways you can support the fishing community is by eating at the seafood restaurant. Even though it was quiet when we went there, the food was amazing, and it was so relaxing. Our bill was a bit expensive, but over half of it was because of the mantis shrimp.
Fried mantis shrimp (กั้งทอดกระเทียม)
Dried fried cuttlefish (ปลาหมึกแดดเดียว)
Shrimp salad (กุ้งพล่า)
Prik kleua (พริกเกลือ)
Total price - 1,760 THB ($56.29)
Long Beach (หาดทรายยาว) - This is a beach at the end of Koh Chang. Overall, I wasn’t that impressed.
Salak Phet (อ่าวสลักเพชร) - At the end the day we headed to Salak Phet, another village and bay. First we walked on the boardwalk over the mangroves - views were pretty fantastic, but it wasn’t in great shape. I still enjoyed it.
Krua Saeng Arun (ครัวแสงอรุณ) - Final end to the day we had another seafood restaurant, this time, it was alright, but not very good.
Crab cakes (หอยจ้อปู)
Mullet sour soup (ต้มส้มปลากระบอก)
Scallops (หอยเซลล์ผัดฉ่า)
Total price - 740 THB ($24.67)

I am becoming addicted to Mark Wiens and his sweet family. My day is not complete without watching at least two videos. He makes me want to try so many dishes I would never have before. I love the demeanor of this young man and how he embraces each culture. My husband and I spent one week in Bangkok many years ago. I was impressed with the friendliness of the people. Mark makes me want to go there again.
I love how you just have a table full of food and you’re like “ok, done with breakfast” so nonchalantly haha! I don’t even eat that much food in a day. The owners of that stall just seemed so genuine and kind. I really can’t wait to visit Thailand!!

Living in a backward, dirty and crowded place like India makes you swoon over an ordinary foodie, Mark, who is not an expert food critic nor is he a gourmand.
He knows nothing about the technical aspects nor the finer details about culinary styles and misses out on the nuances of food tasting. His critiques are pedestrian and not knowledgeable.
Mark's only saving grace is his funny and girlish screen presence.

Someone must be so much fucked up in life LoL! Seeing your messages, Yakov, it is clearly obvious to any sane thinking mind that it is you who lacks critical thinking and is being swayed by raw emotions. How lifeless and lost you must be to spread negativity and hatred towards a calm and lovely message!! It doesn't take an expert to appreciate something that's positive, however small that is. One of the things that I love the most is seeing Micah having the time of his life on each trip. That’s a lucky child... He has traveled more countries at age 2 than any other adult. ☺️

Mark as gorgeous as ever! Out-of-this-World Seafood and Curries have been there 30 Years ago, but did you have to show me paved Roads on the East Coast including a Coconut Farm. Hope that Coco Palms and potholed tracks filled with Coco Shells still exist.

What a fun day! It reminds me of days many, many years ago exploring the Oregon coast or western Wyoming with wee kids in tow. This whole southeast Thailand trip makes a bucket list trip worth of motivation and hope. We need to save these places in the world. Over the years I've seen so many lovely, community supported spots ruined by "fixing" their problems with developer hotels, roads to drive faster on, airport shuttles... and then the magic is destroyed. I hope this stays so lovely and open, even if that means everything not repaired or maintained as we wish it was.
I just love to watch you and share with students. Your personality is warm and friendly, always with a smile and the love for your family is evident. Keep up the great work!

Those mantis shrimp are incredible and formidable opponents in the water. I looked them up and they move like slinking aliens and hunt their prey with unnerving aggression. Too bad for them that they taste like a combo of "shrimp, crab, and lobster." Thanks for taking us to these far-flung locales.

The boardwalk has been repaired. When I was there in February 2020 it was all new. Very beautiful now

The very first restaurant serving the Manti Shrimp seemed fabulous....IT was all portrayed in such a Tropical ...exotic. ..seafoody way.....The beach areas along the coast looked very quiet. ....i guess it could be great for an evening swim.....having the beach to ourselves.....Very Nice. ..Thank you Mark...

I have been to Koh Chang. Lovely island. I stayed at Pearl beach. I also rented a motorbike and drove to long beach, back then it was pristine, basically no people and just some hippies running a bungalow place and one restaurant..
