K5 LS swap FINALLY RUNS!! (But it fought us every step of the way!)

  • We thought we started this project with plenty of time to spare, but with work travel and other problems we encountered, we find ourselves with a non-running, disassembled Blazer just 12 days before Power Tour! Will we ever learn?

I’m doing an ls swap to a 78 k5. It’s cool to see someone doing swaps on the older trucks. I don’t see that very often. It’s always the newer k5s, like the 80s. I’m in the middle of the swap. I’ve done some different things with mine than the one you did. It’s drive by wire to keep cruise control….with the 4l60e for better road manners and the np241 transfer case. Dingo mounts. If you ever upgrade the transmission. You need an 80s k5 shift bar with the spring. I like that Holley terminator x. I’ve been tossing ideas around on how I want to wire this thing. Same 2003 engine.

The trouble you had with that race. I had with a pilot bushing... took me a week to get out between going for supplies, ideas, you tube videos and life...finally chiseled it out

It definitely makes the fight worth it once you get it back out on the road and complete Hotrod Power Tour with it! Nice job, and I sure am glad that I got to meet you guys!

With races that won’t come out. You weaken them with a dremmel cutting wheel. They are about 1” in diameter and you cut several cuts inline with the race. As the dremmel wheel wears down. You can start cutting across the race. Either way…..weakening it by grinding it really thin will allow it to come out with ease.

    Great work on the K5.

Really sad that you have barely any likes with almost 7,200 subscribers. You deserve more than that. Maybe it's just that I saw it earlier than the rest. Either way I hear comments help drive people to your platform, so I'm glad to help. I may need parts for my Factory V8 Monza 4 speed coupe in the future and I need a good source for parts, and you seem to be the guy to know, not too far from me.

Thanks and yeah, engagement is key for the RUclips algorithm so thank you for the comment. And I have LOTS of parts here so lemme know what you need! I may have it.

It's gonna be a while before i get to my monza project. Miles turned out great!

One way to get the races out, is to weld a beed inside the race shrinking it. And using a slide hammer after

Did y’all use the factory transmission with this build? Also do you have a build list?

Looking good. Do you have a parts list that you used? Did you have to change out the stock cross-member? I'm getting ready to drop in a lm7/4l60e/np241 into my 1975 K5. Thanks!

We kept the original TH350 (for now) so no new crossmember needed. Non-stock parts we used were Holley LS swap cast iron exhaust manifolds, Flowmaster U-fit exhaust, Holley Terminator kit, new EFI Conversion gas tank/pump from Holley, -6an fuel line, and that’s about it really.

what wires did you use off the factory bulk head I'm doing the same swap with a holley terminator xmax and I'm not what wires I need to keep

PTFE is Teflon. Teflon is non reactive to ethanol.

And apparently much easier to work with when building 6AN fuel lines too 😅

@@SpyderGarage sure for flexible tubes, lines, etc. the PTFE-Teflon coating inside the tubes are usable with ethanol, per those rated. however, the composition of the tubes may vary along with quality, durability, thus reliability; also the connections for , with flexible tubes are often synthetic polymer materials too, which also require proper coatings suitable with alcohol, ethanol, etc.; also, as with all polymer, flexible tubes, hoses, they have heat limitations, though the PTFE-Teflon or other high temperature coatings are good within engines, cylinder combustion temperatures, the flexible tubes themselves are damaged with heat; as well known. Thus fuel lines, rails above, near, attacked to the engine, near exhaust pipes, turbos, also the disk brake rotors, etc. are easily, readily, quickly damaged by the heat, thus unsafe. Similarly flexible brake lines can be a fire safety issue, damage from heat if close to exhaust, or if there is any breaks, even tiny holes allowing brake fluid to escape, spray upon exhaust pipes, manifold, engine, thus become inflamed as occurred with Collete Davis' C6 drift vehicle previously and perhaps others. obviously all lines which have oils, lubrication, lubricants, flammable liquids need to be considered with heat, safety, fire, inflammation.
      All The Best, Sincerely
