This mama dog was so scared when she left the shelter, but her puppy waited outside her crate for days until she was ready to play 💛

I'll *_NEVER_* get tired of seeing the way that a frightened, angry, abused animal will come back into themselves when they realise that the bad times are finally over and that they're going to be okay from then on.
You can see the moment when the scales finally tip, in their minds, and the miserable downward spiral starts to reverse itself. You can see it in their eyes, in their body language, as the tension eases and they come back to the world from whatever dark place they'd been.
Naturally, I'd prefer it if they'd never been abused or abandoned in the first place, but for as long as there are still animals in need, I'll continue to find joy in helping, and watching them come back. Those are the moments when it really feels worthwhile.

Our dog growing up was like that when we got her. Tied under the apple tree w nothing. GS weighed 35 when we first took her to the vet. It took time but she blossomed into a beautiful friend. We had her for 13 yrs. She was going to be in my wedding. I still miss her.

This is an excellent example of why you'll often see "needs confident companion animal" in bios of mill dog rescues.
They've been burned by trusting humans so having a confident resident dog to be a mentor
and the bridge between the humans and the new dog
can make a HUGE difference.
I know of at least one rescue that refuses to adopt out unless there's another pet in the home(but they specialize in meat and mill dogs, and there are a few exceptions).
Once a dog trusts you, please do not take that for granted. That’s how they show you LOVE. DO THEM ONE BETTER ALWAYS!!! ❤
Oh so beautiful to see this. Both my adopted German Shepherds came with so much fear and anxiety from abusive owners. Now they are secure, happy, very social and oh so loving.

She’s not feral she’s just terrified from the abuse she’s been through. Animals experience all the emotions we do anxiety depression etc. i hate to imagine what that poor dog has been through. I’m just so pleased she has a happy safe loving ❤ home 🏡 with you now your dog’s really helped her to know it was safe . ❤️🇬🇧.

My rescue really came out if her shell by introducing her to my friends little dogs. It was a true, turnaround transformation and she never looked back after that. ❤

We’ve had a number of rescued dogs over the years, and always introduced any new dog to the others as quickly as possible. Almost always on the first day. It always relaxes them, and they all tend to copy one another, so eating and so on tends not to be a problem. A little competition often helps, such as when one dog is being cuddled they all want the same, and the new dog sees this.
This is just one example, of many, of the reason I donate to animal rescue centers and shelters. They do much needed life-saving work that no one else does. And every cent to these animals is a matter of life and deth to these animals. I choose life for these animals so I donate a little every month to small shelters and rescue centers, overseas too, since I choose life for these animals. Plz choose life too and seriously consider donating to a shelter or rescue center of your choice. Rescuing animals is truly a worldwide collective effort...Plz join this noble effort.
The key to work with scared shelter dogs is to be patient with them because they are already confused & need plenty of patience.

She's a Shepherd who was abused. You can tell by her posture. She will learn and bond with you easily once you show her love. Then she will always try to please you! I envy your journey with her. Thank you for taking her into your home. I sincerely believe you will never regret it!
