Samsung notes are the best, they work flawlessly with their tabs and are most reliable with great offerings. EDIT: You have got such a beautiful smiling face, couldn't resist to write this.
Yes totally agree! It's always great to see when tech companies develop their own apps that come for free with each device, that are specifically designed for those devices and that ACUTALLY work really well (instead of just taking up space while competitors offer way better apps). I think Samsung Notes is a great example of this. And thank you for the compliment! It really made my day 🥰
Ahh great! Yes I am using it for some of my planning but I am still struggling with making time blocking work for me. Have you found a nice way to do this?
Thank you so much for making this comparison video. I'm currently using Samsung Tab s8+ and Samsung Notes For digital note taking. Only recently I found the noteshelf and somehow for notetaking notesheff is abit simpler and more comfortable. The pen option is a bit nicer for me. But ofcourse Samsung Notes Offers sync which for me is a large advantage since I also use the Samsung Galaxy S22 ultra as my phone so seamless sync is kind of big deal for me.
I'm getting a galaxy Tab for note taking during class but I was worried about backup and watching my notes in other devices since I don't have a Samsung phone. This video was helpful, thanks.
I have been using Samsung notes for a while. I recently found noteshelf and tried it out, but found that it lags when writing. Another thing that I use frequently is the recording option. With Samsung notes, when you play back a recording, it dims the notes you've taken and highlights the ones you were taking as the audio was being recorded. With noteshelf, it only plays the audio back. I like SS style better because it helps if I get distracted to be able to easily return my attention to where I was based on what part of the audio is playing. I feel like with noteshelf, I would spend more time trying to figure out where in the notes I'm supposed to be looking based on what part of the audio is playing. The only part of noteshelf that I felt was better than SS was the option to style your notebooks with pretty covers and such, but for me, it's not worth losing the other features.
Nice video! I really like the simplicity and writing feel of Noteshelf and use the Drive sync, which makes my handwritten notes searchable on any device. Also, it's 2 years later and Noteshelf finally has 2-way sync in beta, really excited!
I started using Samsung Notes since I saw your video, but I'm still not convinced. I love Noteshelf, but it's true it has some issues. I will use both this semester to decide which one I'll stick to. Great video btw :)
Yes, every app has its strengths and flaws and what app works for you fully depends on what you want to do with it. I think it is a great idea to just try out both, that is definitely the best and only way to figure out which one works best for you. For me that turned out to be Samsung Notes but for you that might be Noteshelf ☺️
@golddon fish well sometimes the app has some minor bugs that sometimes are fixed within hours or days. The feature of searching specific words doesn't work at all, it's better on Samsung Note, but I don't use this feature often. And I think the most important is that you run out of backup storage too soon, so I don't know what happens if you loose your device or try to put your account with another device
great video ! I read that Samsung Notes is now available for Windows 10 / Windows 11 (in theory only for Samsung PCs but it seems there are ways to install on any PC ...), which in theory provides the capability to sync everything to Samsung cloud, create and edit the notes.
Yes I found out! There is indeed a RUclips video with a download link to the Windows app if you search for it. Really nice! The only problem I encountered is that the Windows app loads pdfs very slowly
Newbie to digital notetaking. Overall samsung notes is better. The only downside is the quality of pdf output in noteshelf is better than in samsung notes.
While everyone is going gaga over Samsung Notes and they are even correct. I've tried the app myself and nothing comes close to it. But there is a big catch there. Samsung doesn't let you move your notes off their ecosystem. So think about this, five years from now when Lenovo or some other company comes out with a tablet that is really better than Samsung you will be stuck with your notes in Samsung Notes. Samsung goes out of the way to block you from taking your note elsewhere while pretending they are allowing you to do that. For example, they recently did sync with one note feature and anyone hearing that news would saw, "wow, awesome, now I can port my notes to One Note and move to another tablet in future" - except of course you can't. Samsung just syncs a "screenshot" of the note to One Note Feed (not real one note). Similarly they recently published a windows 10 app, and anyone hearing that would again say, "Wow, at least now I can see my notes in windows at least!" - except, again, you can't. The windows 10 only installs on your laptop if your laptop is branded - (you guessed it) - Samsung. It's horrible trickery like this that makes me have zero trust on a company like Samsung. They allow you to save the note to a file but the file is in proprietary format that only Samsung understands. It's like apple, but worse, because apple ecosystem is at-least strong. That and apple is not pretending they are interoperable. Samsung on the other, has one or two phones and tablets which are good, they have lousy laptops and they are trying to ensure you stick to their hardware just by giving you a really nice app for free. Brings back the old saying, "when something is free, you are the product". Don't get me wrong, I love the app, but I don't have the courage to use it for anything that I want to retain long term. I want my content to port across devices and Samsung works really hard to prevent you from doing that. Put simply, the day you stop owning Samsung devices, they start owning your content and holding you hostage. :)
OMYGOD yes I completely agree. However, I feel like this is an issue with literally every proper note taking app. All the Apple apps only work on Apple products, the fact that the Windows version of Samsung Notes only works on Samsung laptops is ridiculous and up until now I have not found any app on Android that at least makes proper backups in a format readable without a tablet (for emergency purposes). OneNote is a cross-platform option, but in my experience does not measure up at all to Samsung Notes. It makes me sad that no company has jumped on the challenge to create a proper cross-platform handwritten note taking app, as I would PAY for that shit. I have recently switched to Xodo for annotating papers, simply because I have to annotate so many it has become undoable to manually make pdf backups (especially because it takes so long with sizeable files on Samsung Notes). Really hoping a company comes up with a cross-platform solution soon…
@@ALifeofLearning I started using Xodo as well and love it! I actually just got a Samsung laptop, but I struggled with the same issue of cross-platform availability with my old Asus. Also, thank you so much for making non-Apple content. I love my Samsung tablet and want to learn about how to use it for digital notetaking, but most RUclipsrs I see are way too into iPads and GoodNotes. I really appreciate this video!
@@Sarah-wb4hf Mind sharing why you love Xodo? I just care about cross-platform and avoid samsung notes that won't let us export noted data to other app.
@@AkhiSyahmi_ Good question! I only use Xodo for PDF annotations, not raw note-taking from a blank slate. I would use Samsung Notes for this too, but it doesn't integrate with Dropbox anymore, so I can't easily sync my edits (as A Life of Learning also mentions). I'd have to manually save it as a file then upload it to Dropbox. Meanwhile, Xodo has a really great Dropbox integration that makes it easy to have all my PDF documents synced across all my devices. I still use Samsung Notes for my main note-taking though! And then I translate my raw notes into study guides in Remnote. Hahah I think I use too many tools..
Could you please make a video on how you use samsung notes. Particularly how you plan before hand in case you want to update notes - leaving space on right side or adding page or select and move text or any other means?
Of course! I tried Evernote shortly quite a long time ago and found it not very intuitive, so I stopped using it. I considered using it for the Noteshelf auto publish feature, but I was afraid the 60MB monthly upload limit of the free version might not be enough and I found the paid version a bit too expensive, so that is why I chose not too. The sync between onenote and samsung note is very disappointing, it's only in the clipboard. To me, the best is to have a samsung phone with samsung notes and sync. Another thing is that I prefer noteshelf's select tool better because you can select tiny tiny things even dots while in SN, the selection sticks to the shape of the dot so you have to be pixel precise to move it or expand it.
Totally agree with the downsides you are mentioning! Those two things are the exact things I don’t like about Samsung Notes either. However, the fact that there is a way to sync notes (even if it is far from ideal) was very important to me and I think the other benefits do outweigh the slightly horrible selection tool 😅
