    Thanks for the info, thinking of adding 6" fan to my Roly 30w. Airflow is something I hadn't considered. Cheers Geoff

    I have your old fan. It's worked well for me so far. I agree with you saying you have to have enough air flow in to the enclosure.. I have the Comgrow fabric enclosure and when everything was sealed up it started to collapse in on itself. Eventually I will build a new enclosure and I will have a fan blowing in on one side and one pulling air from the other side

    Good information. Fresh air supply to the room is also important. I open a window in the room next to my laser room. That helps for my set up.

      Yea, not an issue in the shack.. having an exterior inlet isn’t a bad idea for colder climates.

    Hi Dave, That is the exact same fan that I'm using on my 20W Xtool and it does a great job. I have my laser in my house and with that fan running I NEVER have any odors in the house. Cheers, Bob

    Love the enclosure. Nice to see thought has gone into the airflow. Also good choice of fan they're mixed flow fans that give better flow at higher resistances, I'm sure you will not need to go larger. BTW I'm a ventilation engineer 😅

    Hi Dave, I’ve been using the fan like the one you replaced to exhaust from two machines y’d together and it works very well. Our homemade enclosures have the exhaust ports on the side and near the top and fresh air comes in from opposite side near the bottom (long slit 2” x 10”) and seems to vent very well. Really enjoy watching your videos. Thx for sharing

    hi Dave, Dave here too. If people are using their lasers from inside their homes, they may want to consider an installing a vent to allow fresh air to replace the air they are exhausting out. Newer homes might be a concern because they are built to tighter specs for air infiltration. If they are using a 120 CFM fan, it most likely will not be a problem. If it is larger, some should consider an outside air intake.

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  2 года назад

      I could see it being an issue in some houses but from my experience, the batroom fans, door trim, general plumbing entry points, attic entry point and stove vents will generally allow enough air exchange. In really cold climates or unusually air tight houses, I recommend an air inlet.

  • @johndoe6032
    @johndoe6032 Год назад

    Good point about the intake being a little smaller and spreading out the exhaust holes. One thing I'm surprised to have never seen is why nobody has just created a sealed box, but have a fresh air intake hose attached and pulling air in from outside. That way there's no chance of the smokey air getting in your home/shop and you don't have to deal with possibly creating a negative air pressure condition in the room you're working in when you're trying to vent your inside air out the box but don't have anywhere else for air to come in.

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  Год назад

      My latest enclosure has a fresh air intake from outside that automatically swaps the air pull. It works off the suction of the draft.

    Congratulations for the video, what I was looking for! Is it better to place the fan vertically or horizontally? Is it better not to let the pipe make too many 90 degree bends to reach the window? If I understand correctly, the closer to the window the better? Thanks in advance for your kind reply

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  Год назад

      As long as you have a good enough fan, placement shouldn't matter. The less bends will reduce the drag on air flow. If properly sealed, the location of the fan shouldn't make much difference unless you are getting excessively long distances. In that case, I would run two fans (one at both ends). Since the machines have gotten more powerful, I run 6 inch fans on my permanent enclosures that do not have a built in fan.

    Newbie here, so pardon if a stupid question. Recently purchased the xtool 40w and planning the setup. Do you think this fan would do well with the 40 also ?? Also, why the 'collection box' under the fan vs going straight to the outtake hole on the box...to incorporate the additional small holes along the bottom right side ??

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  Год назад

      Yea, I made the duct out of necessity because I already had a whole in the wall. I am planning to add another in the bottom and use the top hole as a fresh air intake.

    Thanks, Dave. Good video. Just curious, could you adapt a bathroom exhaust fan do work with your style enclosure. Manu of then move way more than 100cfm and do so quietly.
    Another question - is it better to bring the fresh air in from the top of the enclosure and exhaust from the bottom like yours is set up ... or would it be better (or as good) to bring the fresh air in from the bottom of the enclosure and exhaust near the top?

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  2 года назад +1

      I guess any fan would work, assuming it had enough flow. I prefer pulling the smoke out from below due to the particulates (tiny ash dust), it just seems that getting too high would not allow them to be pulled out and would result in them floating around inside. The more in the enclosure, the dirtier the laser gets. Just my opinion but personal preference for me.

    Hey Dave, just had a quick question in regards to this topic. We bought an S1 from xTools and its riser base component. Smoke seems to be escaping from somewhere in the chamber, can’t pinpoint it though. I ordered a 4” inline fan and the 3D printed adapter for 4” duct hose. Any thoughts on all of that? I’m hoping I don’t have a pile of returns on my hands…thank you!

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  7 месяцев назад

      Depending on the length of hose, probably not enough air flow through the exhaust. I would add some power for sure. The factory fan is a little smaller than I would like, if running it a long way, not enough. I think xtool was expecting short exhaust runs or using their filter.

    • @DoSomethingProductive
      @DoSomethingProductive 7 месяцев назад

      @@TheClackShack that’s my hope, we’ve got it on a work bench probably 4-4.5ft off the ground and then a window above around ~8ft on the wall. I assume with the additional power and some tape on all the hose, that should help. Maybe cracking the door to the riser base would help get some negative pressure?
