Was born in Cardiff in 1940. I left when I was 22. I can’t remember ever seeing homeless people even in the dock area. However my dad taught in Herbert Thomson Secondary modern school in Ely. He told me that some parents were suite happy for their children to go to prison, as they at least would have three meals a day. I have never forgotten that.

Well done for giving them the help they need 😇the tent situation is the most bizarre !it saddens me deeply that they get taken away or police make a scene.I was in the park opposite the museum and police came to intervene because they were using tents it’s awful

Watching this video, I realized that what really counts in life are only three things: shelter, food and significant others. Other things are only perks that we can do without.

Its 1 month and 1 week for universal credit. Basicaly they assess your claim every month. Once they have assessed your claim they then send out a payment which you get 7 days later. The first assessment is exactly 1 month after you put your claim in. Say you start your claim on the first of a month(Example 1st of December). They do an assessment on the first of the next month (aka 1st of January) and then you get your payment 7 days later on the 8th. I have just had to sign onto Universal Credit and that is what they told me

The Huggard run a number of hostels or they used to. Last time I was homeless I couldn't go back because I owed money and it wasn't even my fault. Whilst I was their I got a job and for 2 months they kept telling me all I had to pay was £10 a week as the benefits were paying the rest to help me sort myself out. I thought great. But I did say are you sure and to check and for 2 months they insisted on £10 a week. Then after 2 months they said oh sorry we made a mistake, the benefits hadn't been paid the extra and you owe about £600. I was making £200 a week on my job and they out of that expecting me to pay the rent and the debt.

we all have to stop walking by as if its just the new normal, seeing tents in the street ,insteadwe should stop join together march on our council offices and demand that homelessness ends
its not difficult either , so many empty properties , take the boards off get our fellow humans off the streets

I emigrated from Cardiff to Australia, I don't know if you have the same scheme in Wales as we do over here. The Salvation Army has a scheme, which we use at Christmas time for our family's Xmas presents. The Salvos offer a thing where we can make a donation and receive a receipt for, say $20, 30, 40, or whatever you can afford. The receipt will have the name of your relative on it, inside a Christmas card. That is their chrissie present. We buy toys for the kidillies, of course, but the adults all get a salvo receipt with a different sentence on it, saying this will provide a meal for a homeless person or a bed for the night etc. One benefit of this idea is we don't have to elbow our way around department stores, buying stuff that the recipient may not like, plus they can claim it on their next tax return. Why give money to big companies that don't pay any tax.
I watched several RUclips Videos showing how Finland solved the homeless problem, there's even a Wikipedia page on it. Type In, How Finland Solved The Homeless Problem.
I hope you would like to try this Xmas idea from the Salvos, and see if any other homeless charities offer the same deal, one of our rellies is gay so we get a receipt from one of the LBGQT homeless-supported charities that are cool about being gay.
Unfortunately, the Tories love to persecute the poor and powerless, because they know they can't fight back. Unfortunately, the predominantly right-wing media cheer them on because they are owned by billionaires. When I lived in Cardiff, in the sixties, homeless men or women, at the start of winter would smash a shop window in Queen Street and wait for the police to arrive and plead guilty and get a spell in jail, where they get a warm bed and three meals a day. This was mainly older people because they realised they have little chance of getting a job, so a criminal record wasn't a problem.
I don't think that this wonderful man and woman will ever be on the Queen's New Years' Honour list.
Do we really live in a civilised society?
