One thing here - Walken's character *_TOLD_* them that if they were 15 minutes late - he was going to give the country to that guy. I just don't think it even occurred to the people hiring him - that he meant it. Seems he did.
The other thing about this - is that Walken's character was dying of cancer. So - he pretty much didn't care about his future career as a mercenary.
This is a very good book and goes into a great amount of detail as to the exact methods used to buy the weapons they had. It's very, very good.

@@floridafansteve5364 The reality is all about planning and the firefights are a very small part of it. Fredrick Forsyth moved in the same circles as UK intelligence and military as a journalist. It was always rumoured he had more of a connection than he said he had. I doubt anyone will know until after he dies. However the operation, or rather ones very similar, happened in Africa every now and again. It could have been generic or one that was planned or even based on one that actually happened. Difficult to tell in less it turns up in his notes after he dies.

Like drew in the book he has a different name and he is the bazooka specialist but you know its him because like in the movie Tom Berenger's character is always by Shannon's side throughout the film same goes in the book. They added one more character in the book but I understood why they didn't use him in the past because he's a former hitler youth but you'll notice that he's similar to the four long story short they're the same characters as in the movie just different names and professions.

@@pedropig Oh, they did. Lots and lots of them. Mainly Series 3, or at the very least pre-the switch to the Defender name-plate on the front. Kind of fell out of favour when one of the military ones rolled over, the petrol tank ruptured and the guys inside it got burned to death on a motorway. Blokes liked them because they were powerful beasties.

Filmed in Belize City. The government of Belize was careful to not have any mention of Belize as the location in the credits. I assume because the movie did not show Belize in a good light.

This movie was made at a time when it became known that a portion of American Vietnam War veterans had found a more lucrative market for their skills, rather than returning to a no job-boring job life at home. There were several "small wars" overlooked by the major powers, and then there was un-messed with Rhodesia. Congress, in an answer to this ahem harrumph cough wheeze 'problem', stomped their feet, yelled and screamed about "unauthorized Americans fighting wars in other countries, (mind you, these were private citizens seeking work overseas), and made a law simply stattng it is illegal for American citizens to fight in any wars not sanctioned by Congress!! (Although the CIA can do this all day long without a peep from Congress!!!)
