- How did one album by a man from Coventry change an entire music genre?
Legalised by Panjabi MC signifies a sea-change for the British Asian music scene. He mixed the traditional bhangra folk sounds of his heritage with samples and sounds from the music of his western surroundings, to create the first mainstream Bhangra hit, selling an estimated 10million singles of the anthemic track Mundian to Bach Ke.
And 20 years since release it has left a lasting legacy for artists in its trail. We discover how Panjabi MC had an international breakthrough and changed the face of the British Asian music scene. Видеоклипы
Bally Sagoo, the pioneer. Don't forget the legend.
Your right
100%, Bally's Wham Bam was game changer, Bollywood Flashback 94 took our music into the top 40 UK charts and internationally
Love Bobby Friction, love Legalised - huge respect - but aren't we criminally forgetting Bally Sagoo in this discussion?! His 'Star Crazy' was mixing Ragga & Hip Hop elements with bhangra almost a decade earlier, and was succeeded by numerous others in similar vein before 1998, e.g. The Death Jamm collective. Much respect to PMC, but let's not forget the Bhangra remix pioneers either! For me, Bally Sagoo 'invented' the Bhangra remix...
I hear you don't know what you're talking about.. pure bakwaaaas! And I didn't even read your comment, just saw your silly bootha
Legalised as an album was very cleanly produced. But PMCs newer stuff is all over the place. The Raj - one of the worst albums production wise.
You are 100% right. Bally is the one who started it.
@Rich 91Apache is a reggae artist.
Thank you! Bhangra didn't suddenly go from the fields to the dance floor overnight. Bally Sagoo's "Gur Naal Ishq Mitha", which was recovered in 1990, is still played at weddings and parties today!
we need Punjabi MC interview
Ravi Invincible definitely bruh
Massive RESPECT & SALUTE to
Punjabi MC because of him Punjabi music is recognised all over the world. He an absolute ICONIC LEGEND!!! ❤️🔥🔥🧡💯💯💯💎💎💎🌠🌠👑👑👑
To sick ❤️Absolutely love this
Late Labh Janjua What a Voice
Frenzy is English?? Yeah right thought he was American all along.
Juggy messes the song up
It's unfortunate, Juggy is a great singer, but he's not meant for this track. I get the need to use a UK bhangra artist, but I feel they could have found a more suitable artist.
Two words: KNIGHT RIDER.
Souled out was ground breaking , this was for the commercial lot by legalized was more mainstream .
Big up Coventry to sick ❤️
I bought Legalised Day one when it dropped . Love Grass roots and 100% proof . Souled out and another sellout were great too. And one of the best albums of his Majic desi released in 95 under no name containing earlier hardcore desi mixes of manak, shinda. Jatt ho giya sharabee single had the better version of the song even though in legalised the song feels more complete and it has an awesome mix of jindi mahi from grass roots. Mirza part 2 single had awesome versions of Mirza part one and Muthiar tooh and a drum and bass track featuring Mohammed saddique, and to top it off an awesome mix of giddhean di rani.
Unfortunately after he left nachural records to join movie box, his music went downhill . From what I read it’s mostly down to movie box low standards for what it considered good music . When he created his own record label his music jumped back to great ness with Indian timing and the raj.
Bangra rocks 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Labh janju sang this song..
LEGEND PANJABI MC
Mundiya Ton Bacchke - this song will never ever get a competitor...... 💣
Lambrah Di Noh was one of the best
PMC 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
As for jatt hater BOND wich friction
Still a great watch 👏👏👏
Friction sort your PUNJABI lingo out
And the best thing bollywood can do is, firstly COPY(cus thats all they ever do) and then ABSOLOUTLEY DESTROY the BEST bhangra song of all time!!😡
Funny how this uses so many clips from American Desi, without mentioning the fact that movie really helped popularize Legalised in the United States!
rnjbond that movie sucked, it didn’t popularise shit!
@@snakeoo notice how many clips in this video are from that movie
@@rnjbond that doesn't mean shit.
Imran khan singer interview
Twista version was better
Agreed
what's with BBC Asian network calling Punjabi music ...Asian music it's not. Bunch of coconuts
Punjabi's are Asian. They live in Asia. India is an Asian country.
@@scorpioninpink by this logic you should refer to all English ppl and Scottish ppl as European...lets see how well that goes.
What about the real talent behind Punjabi MC... Cough cough ! Did someone say TRU-SKOOL?
Gurtekh Singh tru skool lol boring same shit producer
naa bruh mc killing it as always
@@deejayarpit Can you read what I wrote? He made this song.
@@GS-km5yu respect and love for both tru skool and panjabi mc im not at a position to comment over their work i bow down to these legends .
