- Felix Hernandez came up to the plate in the top of the 3rd for the first Mariners Pitcher at-bat in Safeco field History and Records a single to right field on the 2nd pitch he sees. It was also the First hit of the ballgame. Felix would finish the night 1-3 while pitching a 8 inning gem Striking out 10. (Sorry the video is shaky, I was in the Kings Court filming and people are always holding up the K signs so it was messing up my shots, so I had to free hand it. Again sorry and Enjoy!!!!!!!!)
I bet Brendan Ryan whishes he could hit as well as Felix.
It was a weird deal where U2 rented the Marlins stadium that weekend for a concert, so they moved the games to Seattle, but kept Florida as the "Home" team and played NL rules
Oh! This was so weird because the whole time I was thinking:
1.) Why is it Safeco if he's wearing the road uniform.
2.) Why is he batting?
Then, I saw the Marlins with home uniforms and I remembered that U2 concert last year! So weird!
Cool man it is safeco field, I was there I posted pics. on my facebook. just like Shea Yeutsy said is true. this might be the only time that this will happen. also during the game felix almost hit a homerun, it just went foul. it was a super close call.
See how the fans are excited when they see the pitcher bat? Get rid of the DH, it's more fun that way. Sure most pitchers bat like .130 or so but it still is fun and whenever they get a big hit or maybe in rare case a homer it's really cool.
As far as I know he's still the only one to do it, although I suppose Ohtani could've if he got a hit on a day he was here pitching...I dunno, I didn't feel like researching that before I wrote this
Dear American League, Please repeal the DH rule. Seeing a pitcher get on base is way more awesome than seeing a slugging specialist like Ortiz get a homer. This video shows the game is a lot more exciting without the DH.
False, because Edgar Martinez.
What about all the other times where the pitcher strikes out? Does that make the game a lot more exciting too?
Definitely. Strike outs are part of the game just as much as base hits, walks and runs
aspirex1301 Good matchups between the pitcher-batter that result in battles are exciting (regardless of result).
But when you know what the result is going to be 90% of the time before the guy even steps up to the plate - sure you might say it's part of the game (it's in the rulebook, of course it is), but that doesn't imply it's exciting.
You know what's not exciting? Intentional walks. That's what NL pitchers do. They intentionally walk the #8 guy in the lineup just to get the pitcher out. They do intentional walks in the AL too. But not nearly as much as the NL. It's a very weenie thing to do and is encouraged in the NL with the pitcher batting.
Why was a pitcher batting @ Safeco field? It's an American league park...
im a king ti intro music for felix...so sweet
Impossible to be worse then being in Oakland
Not any worse then Oakland
Was it in 2011?
Why were we the visiting team that day?!
There was a concert scheduled down in the Marlin's stadium so they played he in Seattle its like what happened with the Baltimore riots the Orioles played as the home team at Tropicana field because of the conditions in Baltimore
this isnt in safeco field
Yes it is.. Notice all the mariners gear and the cheering lol
It's definitely Safeco Field, but I don't understand why the Mariners are wearing away uniforms and why the pitcher is batting.
A few years ago the Mariners were supposed to play a 3 game series in Florida but they Scheduled a U2 concert during the series down there so they played at Safeco instead. Marlins were the home team and Mariners were the away team. Also had a 7:05pm start on a Sunday during this series. Was really cool to go to.
what gave it away? Was it the entire section of cheering Felix Hernandez fans? the "Mariners.com" logos all over the field? Maybe it was how eveyone cheered when he got the base hit? ...or maybe its the mariners logo in the outfield? Hmmm Perhaps the uncanny resemblance to Safeco Field is tricky to the lay person. Yeah definitely not in Safeco Field...
Yeah it is Safeco Field dumbass
