I feel like currently, vipers biggest weakness is that she is not a very good solo controller. I think that viper really shines on double controller, and that harbor is actually very underrated on icebox and breeze
I’m not sure harbor and viper work together on icebox and breeze anymore. The teams that used to play that combo no longer do so and have moved to one of the dome smokers (typically omen) with either viper or harbor (typically viper). It’ll be interesting where the direction of comps will go in the currently flash heavy (as of early 2024) team comps.
viper clove seems to work really their smokes can synergize well with viper's but they also can get a lot when pairing viper's pit with their own ult, because if they get killed they can come back to life, and hide deep in the smoke and get a sneaky pick to come back to life fully on top of their utility paired with viper's stuff also just being really good at causing chaos

Watching this as a current viper main hurts and at the end the foreshadowing was just salt in the wound, they dug a 6 foot hole for her right next to Chamber and put her in it 😭😭

I think viper has been OP for so long cuz shes managed to stay under the radar unlike prime chamber or jett 😭 She's always been good but not good enough to be killed like chamber lmao
i play viper for 4 years now, called out how strong she was before the pick rate ramp up just based on how good she is for teamplay in double controller or with good controlable bangs like skie and yoru, and how the subborness of ppl still calling her bad because they didn't know how to play the agent (even pros i'd argue), would lead to her becoming too strong. The patch where she got her instant 50 decay came and i was laughting at how ppl noticed only when pros noticed how strong that was (and i remember at the time ppl arguing that it wasn't enough lmao than they actually played against her and noticed that her sites were impossible to take and she had bonkers preassure on attack).
With all of that being said, i guess riot is going to focus too much at her individually and make one of my fav characters in fps very lame to play, or even less versatile than her 1.0 version, and on pro play she might still get a 50% pick on her best maps, while not being nearly as fun to play. I might be wrong though, and i wish they mantain their mindset they had back when ppl were asking for her having 2 smokes (such a dumb idea, she would be unstopable even more than nowadays), and they just ignored and gave exactly what i though was the best to make her being noticed as a strong character, a buff that made screens scary (the instant decay was that).
So what do i think is the best call to nerf her in pro play but not enought to kill the agent? Nerf her teamplay. Make her skills playing along other agents weaker, while playing alone strong. Ppl learned how to play her so focusing on nerfing her teamplay potential will not stop many from still trying to play her (val players across the board proved to be stubborn enough, since they still pick jett as the strongest character despite she being smaked down as badly as chamber lmao) while hitting exactly what makes her strong, having a screen working alonside the other smoker and a skie bird to confuse the enemy team on where we are, or how we are attacking. Of course just like back when she wasn't beeing played much, i don't know what is the exact change that would achieve that, just that this is probably the right mindset to put her in her place while not hitting on what makes ppl who play viper like the character. Just please not a smoke that has only one activation like i've seen some argue. That would not fuck up the character, would also make many viper players not play the game anymore.

The only way to finally nerf Viper (I'm talking about Jett-dash levels of nerf) - make it so that she can't deploy the wall pre-round. If this is too much, then they can just revert back the previous nerfs to her fuel or her mollies.

The only changes I see for doble controllers comps is now well start seeing viper + clove comps 😂 she’s absolutely insane and I don’t see how riot can nerf her anymore without killing the agent in ranked
Without watching the video, my first impulse when thinking about "why is she still so strong": "infinite" util and effective when needed. Maybe limiting how often she can refill her gas tanks would bring her down but thats rly not a question i wanna answer
was maining her for more than a year when I started, only play her on breeze/icebox sometimes nowadays, all the nerfs really makes playing her a bit too bothersome

There's just no one like Viper. I can't think of a way to nerf her without reworking her kit (some people suggested turning her orb into something similar to harbor's cove, etc)

is she worth to pick up for like a "mildly invested" player? like I´d be down to watch some videos on her for basic lineups but not down to spend endless hours on custom maps to learn the most hard and niche lineups etc
