It all depends on how you want your skates session to feel. My outdoor wheels are super gummy, so if I want a chill skate session where I'm not sliding everywhere, I'll keep them on. But if I'm at a skating rink I'll switch and put my 103A Roller Bones indoor wheels on.

Interesting, but why not just wear a low cut boot?
The low cut usually have a shorter heel in the back. That makes one have to work harder to skate
