Guys, stop saying that french cities don't look like that. That it's just Paris and so on. The whole country would need at least 10 region packs to illustrate the diversity of architectures of the country. Let the content creator do their jobs, i'm sure we will end up with a Brittany style or a Alsacian style assets if we give enough time to creators to make them
I commend your optimism, but I seriously doubt CO and the dev team will publish and commission that extensive of a pack. They have handled and visioned this release horribly.
@@christophermorales6680 of course they wont because it's not needed. We don't need thousands of buildings for just one country, this is cities skylines not france skylines
@@ApollonDriverwhat the devs NEED to do is entirely subjective. They objectively need to improve performance and foundational mechanics. I still get 5/5 max level office jobs. There’s no technical limitation to adding an extensive French architecture pack. A more extensive asset library won’t slow down the simulation, just load times. And it just so happens that French architecture influenced/shares multiple European architectural styles. CS2 has been out for a year and we’ve received one small architectural pack (when compared to what we would already had if they added the asset editor) and abysmal improvements to the game.
It could have been a two episodes mini series with a little thought put in, instead of just rushing an unrealistic road layout and dumping services all over. If you just wanted to do a review of the new content you could have done one just looking at the assets and commenting on them, this way not a single new building got any proper attention and you made the whole package look generic in the worst way. This is not up to quality with your usual content in my opinion.
I'm french and I swear we've built things more recently than a century ago but yeah anyway, this looks great. It's just a bit frustrating that the assets only focus on Paris and only in an historic way... Would have loved to see Provence type low density housing, modern and futurist administrative buildings, museums, stadiums... We have modern looking transport infrastructures too... But it does look very nice
I would always love more assets, haha! But I think Paris is the best place to start as far as a French-themed region pack goes (especially before we have the asset editor) because it represents what most people associate with French architecture (whether rightfully or not) and lays a great foundation to build Paris-inspired. I would love more packs in the future covering other French styles, e.g red-roofed Mediterranean as you mentioned, but I think it's nice that this pack doesn't try to do too much at once because that risks spreading the different zones "too thin", instead of being focused :-) Just my 2 cents - and thanks a lot!
@@Infrastructurist that's a good point. I love your content btw, perfect compromise between playing a game and going for realistic cities. They are always beautiful. If you go for french-type builds in the future I'd love to give feedback but ofc if it's needed. In the end it's a game so what's fun is what counts
@@Marshall17101972 A lot of European modern architecture doesn't need a pack for each region rather than a "Modern Western European pack". Meanwhile the Paris assets is more exclusive to France and should rightfully have it own pack.
It's something, which is better than nothing. As soon as the asset editor will come out, I bet we'll start seeing thousands of assets. In the meantime this is a really cool content pack, it's free, it's made with love, very detailed, and it's a great showcase of what the game could become going forward.
Hey French here, love your videos, just want to say for French city we rarely use 2 lanes roads, even less 2 lanes + parking, like for example the "Paris Gare Nord" so the big train station is only 1 lanes + parking on the bigger one we can replace the parking for a bus lane in some nice city> We also have a lot of one way road + parking. Now on the pack it is looking good, too bad it is againt limited to 90 degrees angles because if you look at paris on a map you will see that most of the corner are not close to 90 degrees, the roads themself are mostly strait it is just the angles they meet at that are wild and I love them for that Ps : I enjoy the micro building format over macro quick city one, for a showcase the macro is the only one that make sense but for the regular series micro with a lot of details and tough is what make you unique over other city builder creator
I was really hoping they'd do non-standard-angle corner buildings because that's so prominent in Paris but then I remembered the game can't really do anything other than 90° :(
and just to answer your question around 1:19:00, I really enjoy watching you build something fast and with less detail, because it shows how we can use the base game. I'd also argue that adding details in a further episode could be great to see the evolution from nothing to 'quick' city, and then to detailed and more realistic city!
diagonal roads = parks, service buildings, etc. straight/square roads = RICO zoning adhering to those rules may give "flexibility" in a road layout, ie, zone on the straight roads or grids, decorate on the diagonal or crooked streets, etc.
This map was created by Octopolis and it is based on Santos region in the state of São Paulo - Brasil. He created this map for a coop series with Barbosa cities. Both awesome Brazilian creators for CS. Btw, very nice city in the end. Very well detailed as always. Cheers.
i have to say i do love your attention to detail. i've been playing cities skylines for a while, but there's so many small tips and creative tricks i have learned from your videos. for example something as simple as turning off snapping and angling buildings. makes such a huge difference! watching your videos gives me ideas on how to pay more attention to detail.
Two-hour video? Feels like Christmas came early this year! I just hope they fix the optimization issues-I’m having so many problems with the game right now, it’s driving me insane.
@@Infrastructurist Unfortunately, yes-I’ve spent 100 hours in CS2, but about 60 of those hours have just been me trying to get the game to work properly. I haven’t managed to surpass 10,000 citizens because the game randomly crashes. When I load a save, buildings from mods sometimes appear randomly in my small town of only 100 people, and if I try to delete them, the game crashes again. It’s definitely not a performance issue since my PC is nearly identical to yours, and I’m using the same mods. Anyways Im loving your creativity, I suspect I might go crazy soon.
Agree - although I was pleasantly surprised to find that you can do both, as some of the deeper assets have buildings "in the back" as well, instead of just empty space :-)
Great build as always the placement of the assets the Notre dam the two hospital and city hall are on point with more packs to be unveiled the possiblies of mixing different styles of assets will be marvelous
Great video. I’d love to see you do a mini-series where you speed run this city to 100,000 population in this format. I enjoy the long form, however I also really like it when you do shorter length videos that focus on one or two big builds. Returning to your builds is more satisfying than one off videos for me.
Okay so just another comment for non-french viewers : the grey type of mettalic roof is mostly found in Paris, and other cities built and developped in the late 19th and 20th century, damaged and reconstructed after WWII. This is called the hausmannian style. It can be darker than in the assets here though. The red tiles roof are found in the south of France, they are very mediterrenean but can be found in the south third of the country. However, red houses are found in the north, but it's the bircks of the walls, and not the tiles. A lot of small cities, historic city centres of big cities still have old buildings with bricks. In the west side (Britanny, Normandy), there are slate black roofs. In general style are not mixed in France at least for housing (low density) : it's either grey, back slate or orange/red roman tiles. The low rent french housing assets are so on point, although one could argue it could be eastern european or german-ish. But there is so much architectural variety anyway. Same thing with the signature office building : so on point haha
Since you asked I personally find myself enjoying more the detailing part of the video rather than the quick big expansion kind of sequences… I like when you line streets with trees and landscape with flowers etc… it really makes a build stand out…
very cool one great work on this city as always , i love the detail videos but i too am heavy on the details lol so might just be me but keep up the great work loving the content
Great pack in any case and a fantastic video!!! But I had hoped for more unusual buildings and not just normal apartment buildings. So also several station sizes incl. subway, airports, finally churches, shopping centers, hotels, cinemas etc... Also, typical sidewalks/plazas/pedestrian zones would have been great, red cobblestones would have been a good fit here, the gray in gray everywhere on paths is not so nice... But it's all free, which is of course really great 🙂
I like how the hospital looks like it is shortened so that it doesn’t block a view of the cathedral. Kind of like how skyscrapers in London were not allowed to block the view of St Paul’s cathedral
