    The XD subcompact gen 1 is my EDC. Added the pierce extension for +1 round and pinky rest, such a cool looking gun. Accurate as hell too.

    I've got this exact gun. It's the most comfortable pistol I've ever shot, and my hands are much larger than the average person's. I can't give this gun a high enough rating.

    I always like to see videos on thoughts about this firearm, I absolutely love this firearm it shoots nice easy to take down, feels great in the hand. Not to mention absolutely looks awesome! Springfield has impressed a lot of people with this firearm. I own two of the sub-compacts one in 9mm and the other in .40 Smith both shhot great and are nice carry guns. I know a lot of people love the Glocks, but I would not trade mine for the world!

      joe castaneda thanks for the comment! I agree with you. Glocks are great, but Springfield upped the anti with better ergonomics and a better trigger. Not to mention they cost less! Cheers

    I really wish people would quit bad mouthing the grip safety. One of the best designed and longest running favorites of all time has the grip safety. (say 1911) I've been shooting for 5o years and I've never had a single problem with this added safety feature. If nothing else it's peace of mind for those that have some concern about an accidental discharge. Reliability is #1 and safety is right up there with reliability. I've been watching quite a few video's on the Springfield subcompacts and I've notice some failures to complete the slide return after discharge, and failures to feed as well as light primer strikes. For me these failures are much more significant negatives than the grip safety. With self protection on the line you want your firearm to bang every time you pull the trigger. I have mixed feelings about these Springfield polymer subcompacts as carry guns. Yes they're inexpensive/cheap, but do you really want go rely on a cheap gun that exhibits failures in video reviews? For those of you that think low price is a major factor in your choice of a carry gun, you might want to consider the M&P Shield as they don't seem to have so many failures in public video's.
    I shoot Sig's, H&K's and Glock's in the lighter weight carry configuration and to this date I've not had any failures at all. Basically I'm a 1911 guy, however, I'm learning to like the striker fire polymer's for self defense because of the size, weight and double stack capacity. So far, only Glock, H&K and Sig have demonstrated proven reliability at a level I would be willing to trust with my life.
    If you have to, save a few bucks more and purchase a really reliable firearm these Springfield XD's and mod2's aren't it.
    My compliments on the nicely done video.
    AL

      allan matthews Al, thanks for the comments and insights. I don't disagree at all. If you have a positive grip on the gun, the safety will disengage as expected. I think as polymer guns have gained popularity, seeing a grip safety now is not as desirable since others in the same class are omitting it. I agree on the more significant types of issues in terms of reliability and that other manufacturers have done a great job minimizing those issues. At the end of the day, there are a lot of good choices for self defense or just Range fun. Thanks again! Cheers

      allan matthews grip safety’s are better than thumb safety’s. All you need is “pay” to play. I’d take a grip safety over a thumb safety any day.

    • @scarpia519
      @scarpia519 5 лет назад +3

      Allan: "you might want to consider the M&P Shield as they don't seem to have so many failures in public video's"...re-failures: The frame on my Shield 9mm cracked.
      My XD Mod 2 Subcompact 45, has never...repeat...never failed to load, fire and eject and yes, I've shot more than one round. I have S&W, Beretta, Sig Sauer, Bersa, Norinco, Glock, Browning, Ruger, CZ, TriStar and Taurus semiautos in various calibers and every one has had failures to load, fire or eject.
      " trust with my life"...my life doesn't depend on my gun, someone else's does and I wish them well, that is, if they threaten me or I find them in my house.

    I had the XDM 40 Cal 4.5 & loved it. Had to sell it for reasons & now sending my paper work in as I await my XD Mod 2 40 3.3 to pick up at Shark Coast Tactical in Sarasota. So happy they had it in stock, my favorite store here in 941. (Thanks to my buddy for putting me on to that gunsmith & store)

    Always been a huge SA fan, but actually never shot one of these. I've been very interested in this particular pistol, but just never pulled the trigger. You certainly do an in-depth and thorough review, and I appreciate the straight talk/honesty in your reviews. Have a nice weekend!

    I have this pistol in .45 and it is by far my favorite carry .45. It hits the sweet spot in size and dimensions coupled with capacity. 9 rounds of .45 with the flush mount mag. That’s decent firepower in a concealable package. I don’t know why they did the XDS in .45. A five shot mag is not enough for me. Speaking of which I own the XDS (Mod 1) in 9mm. I think the trigger is smoother and stacks less on the XDM Mod2. Also it is a lot more pleasant to shoot. Much like the M&P, they really nailed the ergos on this gun, the way it sits in your hand and points. I shoot it better than my XDS for sure. Not quite as well as my 1911, which is buttery smooth with the best trigger on any handgun I own by far. It also has a little more muzzle flip than the 1911 due to it’s lightness in comparison, but it’s recoil is not unpleasant as the comfortable grip and texture both spreads the recoil and keeps the gun planted. It is by far easier to carry. Also love the fiber optic. It picks up very well for me, especially on a sunny day. On top of that you get the rock solid reliability of the XD design, which is the selling point of the type and it is Glock like. I’ve never had a single hang up on either of my XD’s in thousands of rounds. Also the way they cut the slide and serrations in the back make it super easy to catch and rack. Lastly lots of people complain about the grip safety. Not me. I’m used to 1911’s and any type of proper grip while shooting automatically defeats the safety without thinking about it. If you’re going to have a safety, it is the best one by far because it is passive and automatic. Great job SA!

      I can agree with this 100%. I have the Sub Compact version in .45 ACP. The only difference is I installed the mag base that allows a little bit of more room. I too carry this or a 1911. The 1911 is great for out and about, while this works well for inside and more dressy occasions.

    • @cbwelch4
      @cbwelch4 5 лет назад

      Randy Jones I absolutely love my 1911 and have carry systems for all my pistols, but it is long and heavy and I’ve only carried it hunting OWB in a Phoebus holster. It was comfortable in that rig. This gun is so much easier to carry.
      Also have the 9c. Both good guns and really about the same size. Round count is better in the XD especially as it is a .45. The ergos on the Smith are a hair better, but the XD feels great. The stock trigger on the XD is much better than the Smith which was crunchy and creepy on mine and needed an Apex, which it got. Won’t change the XD. The XD has never failed to feed. The Smith had double feeds when it was breaking in.

    This was one of my first handguns and my first handgun that I conceal-carried. It is extremely easy to shoot accurately, considering it's a subcompact. I even have an XD45 Mod 2 SC and it's just as comfortable, even shooting that big slug.
    Folks like to laugh or meme the "Grip Zone" but that itsh worked, and worked great.
    After owning it almost 8 years, I've absolutely nothing bad to say about the XD9 SC Mod 2. The trigger has a lot of pre-travel and not the best reset, but I've seen worse and that hasn't stopped me from shooting accurately

    Nice Review. My XD mod2 40 is a very reliable shooter. Never misfires. The lack of pinkie support on the standard mag is the only thing I would change. Short barrels are louder is the only reason I do not shoot it as much as my other pistols. Sites are awesome. I did receive Springfield holster & mag carry for my belt in plastic case. I don't really notice safety trigger. I don't need any additional modifications to stock pistol.
    A significant shell count.

    Thanks for the great review.. I just subbed. In terms of 9mm there are just so many good subcompact and compact options. I am partial to walther and cz but it is really a matter of preference and desired features since there are so many good options. For 45acp though, I think the springfield line offeres something a step above alot of the competition and the xd series integrate the round really well over some other options since the 45acp compact/subcompact market is alot smaller than the 9mm market. If you are ever looking for a different subcompact 9mm to review I would recommend the walther p99c since it is a great DA/SA striker fired gun coming right in at g26 weight. Though I will admit I may have some bias towards the walther.

      I just purchased a Walther P99c and think you will love it one you test it out. Some question the double action to single action trigger system?? Personally, I think it is the best of both worlds for a self defense firearm...the first should be a bit longer with subsequent shots shorter.

    I have this same handgun as my EDC in 9mm. I like the feel of the grip a lot better than the Glock's. IMHO, the grip safety gives me added peace of mind when re-holstering while carrying AIWB.
    I must say that the "Grip Zone" is a joke. Why would you put smooth lettering over an area where you actually want more traction/friction? I quickly fixed that with a set of Traction Grips. The trigger is a bit mushy, but it is better than a Glock stock trigger. As for the flat magazine, instead of installing a Pearce pinky grip/mag extension, I bought one from Galloway Precision. Same dimensions but now I have a 14+1 sub. I'm ok with the stock sights. Although, I may swap them for a set of XS Big Dot sights.
    All in all, for me, this is the perfect CCW for AIWB

    I'm looking for a 9mm for my mom who is 5 feet tall and has small hands. Her CC piece is a Kahr p380. I'm thinking this xd will be nice for her to 'range' with since the grip is a bit smaller than the Glock 26. That, and the trigger also breaks a bit more rearward than the glock. A lot of people tell me to get her a single stack 9 like a walther pps but she'll likely only carry the kahr380. I also think that a single stack 9 won't be as pleasant or easy for her to shoot and train with when comparing it to an xd mod 2. Any thoughts?

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  7 лет назад

      Thank you for the comment and question. I think this would be a fine range or carry gun. The footprint is actually larger than the G26 all around, including the grip, so it may be more comfortable to hold. I rarely recommend a G26 as a range gun except for pretty experienced shooters since it is pretty small (great gun though!). If the primary use for this is range and maybe home defense, I'd stay away from single stacks due to the lack of accessory rails and small capacity. As for the PPS, it's my favorite of the single stacks and a great option. Hope this helps! Cheers

    Did this one make the cut? As in, is it still in The Collection? Now that I see it’s so close in size to the P320SC I’m a bit less interested. Still really like the SC as it shoots like a larger gun and won’t have the potential problems the P365 has. I’m seeing your point, though, and there may be a Medium FDE grip module in my future.

      No, it’s long gone but still a fantastic gun. I would have kept it but the budget, well... you know. If I had to choose between the SA and P320, I’d go Springfield. I just prefer the ergos. Thank you and cheers Jake!

    The Springfield Mod2 is awesome, my buddy bought one. He's wishing he bought the two-tone model because the finish is starting to wear off in less than a year and he doesn't even keep it in a holster.

    If the base plate on the flush mag didn't stick out you wouldn't have as secure of a grip with only 2 fingers. Many comments give the impression of very limited gun experience.

    • @KSGunGuy01

      Thanks for the comment. I think it all comes down to personal preference. Some people like that lip that sticks out, I personally don't. I found the same to be true with the FNS 9C. As for people's comments, everyone is welcome and encouraged to share their thoughts regardless of skill level or experience. That's what makes this fun and a great community. Cheers!

    Which subcompact 9mm would you pick between Springfield XDs mod2 vs. S&W Shield 2.0?
    Is there another subcompact you would rate higher than those two?
    (ie- CZ Rami)

    • @KSGunGuy01
      @KSGunGuy01  5 лет назад +1

      Although both the XDs and Shield into the single stack category, I’d go Shield without hesitation. As far as subcompacts, I’d go G26 of VP9sk. Thank you and cheers!

    • @drlarryc
      @drlarryc 5 лет назад

      KSGunGuy Why you would pick the Shield 2.0 over the XDs mod 2? (Minor or major reason?)
      Do safety features exist to prevent a “dry fire” accidental discharge during field stripping? (ie- does a decocker prevent it?)
      Is there a name for the designs that don’t require pulling the trigger to disassemble (such as the H&K VP9sk you mentioned above)
      * I read a frightening number of comments about accidental discharges & finger injuries while breaking down striker fire guns - mostly w/ Glocks. (forgot one still in chamber) - these comments were about a RUclips video called : “I shot off my finger!!!” - by a police officer.

    No criticism of the grip safety here. I really like that feature. In fact the overall safety mechanisms of the Springfield Mod2 is one of the primary reasons my wife and I went with this pistol. I am an older shooter and my grip is not as strong as it used to be. So between the trigger and grip safeties I feel this is one of least prone to accidental discharge weapons I could own. MikeinMinnesota 👨🏻‍🦳🔥♿️. I’ll see You at the Top! Great review. Thank you.
