That was what the old guard did in the 90s because that was what the heads in the late 70s and 80s did when this shit was new. You know how much it costs to clear a sample? Let alone multiple samples on a LP? Some of those producers in the 90s got away with a bunch of un-cleared samples. Not going to happen ever again.
Listening to this makes me wonder ..why exactly did hiphop go in two separate directions ie commercial (what is so popular today) and the more underground, breaks genre which influenced Trip hop artists of the early 90s and is most commonly related to breakdance ie artists like Dj Shadow..I find it interesting that most people into modern hiphop would probably dismiss the latter ..or at least today's generation is not so aware of it. There seems to be a split between 'rap' music and underground breaks ..and I find it interesting how no one ever seems to acknowledge or talk about it 🤔
