  • So you want to disconnect the radiator valves only to find the nuts connecting it, are stuck tight, also which way do I turn the nut to undo it. The more you try to undo the nut ,the more the pipe underneath is distorting trying to crease. Help is at hand.

    Fittings are "right hand thread"
    Undo - "anticlock wise" "tighten" turn clockwise

    I was just wondering is there a set of plumbers spanner’s to fit most common pipe thread nuts , plumbers always seem to use pesky adjustable spanner’s , nothing like an open end standard or ring spanner ..Are all threads in plumbing odd sizes ? .. how nice it would be to select a known size spanner to fit a known size nut , I understand the need for grips of course...Years ago now in my younger days I remember screw cutting on the centre lathe , and sometimes a BSP ( British Standard Pipe ) thread would have to be cut among many others in those days ..All metric now , but at least that gives us something standard...Thanks Al

      It`s a shame, but all the nut sizes are a little different in plumbing.

    Your valves and radiator look quite new so would be easy to crack open. I'm trying to crack open an old valve nut from the 1970s. It's completely seized up and won't turn. I'm definately turning it the right way. Used my clamps, still won't release. I'm thinking of unscrewing the bolt where the valve joins onto the pipe so the valve remains intact with the radiator, if the water flow enters the radiator from the opposite good thermostat valve and shut it off will I be able to remove the radiator with the idea that the water will be shut off at the point of the good thermostat valve? Thanks

      No do not do that, the rad has to be closed at both ends. Give the nut a hard smack with a hammer to jar it loose. Use a tommy bar slid over the handle of the spanner for more leverage.

    It looks like a reverse thread?? I expected lefty losey to undo it but you went righty tighty? Looking into the radiator?

      Plumbing is more a less all right hand thread.

    If find just pulling the pipe coming out of the floor towards you is sufficient and therefore doesn’t mark the valve

      Depends how much movement you have.

    There is a nut at the top of my radiator that is leaking....is it okay to tighten and would i use a box spanner?

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  2 года назад +1

      Try tightening. Adjustable spanner not a box spanner.

    My problems the nut near the radiator won't move at all even tried wd40.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  3 года назад +1

      A bigger spanner, and a tap on the nut with a hammer.
