Vivian is a step above many other guitarists. He is in what we would call in "That" category. The few Def Leppard shows I've been to I always sit on his side. So glad he's doing well.
If yngwie was the paganini or Bach of eighties metal then Vivian was the Mozart. You could sing along to his solos. He was the master of phrasing. The Beatles of guitar solos.

I forgot how good Vivian Campbell is. He doesn't get much of a workout in Def Leppard so I'm glad to hear this new stuff. I've been a Vinnie Appice fan since the first records he did with Rick Derringer, Kenny Aaronson, and Danny Johnson. Lordy! This is a good record. I don't think the singer sounds like Ronnie James Dio at all unless he's singing Dio stuff. He really nails this original material. I have no problem with Vivian and Vinnie making some coin together again off of their association with Dio. There would have been no "Holy Diver, Rainbow in the Dark, or Last in Line" without Vinnie, Viv, and Jimmy.

VIV fighting for his life, I know the feeling.He is amazing in DEF LEPPARD. He amazes me cause he says, when he first joined DEF he was playing his way and not STEVE CLARK'S parts the way they were written.Right away he realized his version of playing was ruining the songs cause STEVE CLARK'S parts held down the root of the songs.So he pulled back and played the parts the way they were done by CLARK/WILLIS not COLLEN cause COLLEN just came in and added leads to PYROMANIA(that is another story).Which is so humble cause those parts are so easy for CAMPBELL pray for CAMPBELL HE IS AN amazing man.Amazing guitarist now he has CLARK'S parts so down with is flash DEF sounds better than ever.
Who its to bash Vivían after all this years with all the things that went wrong with him and Ronnie? I know i did some bashing only cause of Dio always being my Music Idol. I think deep in each others Heart they where able to put everything behind them, Its such a shame cause they created such great music together. Ronnie its no longer with Us and Vivian is, Sooo..Much power to Vivian and everything he does or would do to keep the legasy of Dio, his first true Big chance in metal music Alive!
He was briefly in a band called Shadow King rhat he ans alou Gramm founded. Tht were cery good but didnt ladt after 1 albumn vecause mick jones made sure Atlantic records didnt promote him. Thetes a youtube video of their performance in london. Type in Shadow King, london theatre and u will see lou gramm and Vivien Campbell in Shadow King.

Saw Vivian in Greenville SC not long after joining Def Leppard. Him and Phil Collin were amazing. Super good guy.
