The 6.4 wasn’t really fords fault. They were bound by contract to buy engines from international/Navistar. That’s why if you look at a 6.0 or 6.4 valve cover you see the Navistar plate and not a ford plate. With the 6.7 being a true ford design they have proven that they can make a reliable diesel. The 6.4 is basically a International MaxxForce 7, witch is equally junk. Ford actually never paid Navistar for the 6.4 because of all the warranty claims they had to do on these trucks. There were some f-450’s that had 3 and 4 engines put in under warranty because they simply blew up from being used in the HD applications. International/Navistar actually has had several class action lawsuits brought against them for knowingly selling bad engines, the most notable case being the MaxxForce 13 in their medium and heavy duty trucks. They paid out 135 million dollars from that lawsuit. So, long story made short is that Navistar knew the gig was about to be up with Ford. They knew that ford was getting ready to dump them and make their own engine, so they gave them and engine that would make lots of power and sell trucks. They cut every corner that they could to try and save their share holders pockets from running dry but ended up shooting them selfs in the foot, shooting ford in the foot and the people who bought the trucks in the foot. I always tell people this. - Dodge didn’t make a good engine, Cummins did. Chevy didn’t make a good engine, Isuzu did. Ford didn’t make a junk engine, NAVISTAR did.

So nice to be able to push a trailer into a tight place. Bike rack in front. Custom built plug in front vertical support, for dual overhead rack W/ spreader, for carrying long material. Plug in my 5,000 lb removable winch when I need it. Built a nice 2x2 stainless receiver for extra driving lights. I Like my extra hitch up front on Little Bubba. I just inherited one of these (2008 XLT). My dad passed away in late Feb, and now I'm trying to learn as much about these trucks (and the engine) as I can.
My 2008, F350 DRW that is used for towing has 323700 Miles on it. I am just now replacing the lift pump that quit. I replaced the starter at around 310K, and the auto trans was replaced at 278K. I’d have a hard time getting rid of it, but I understand why you want to. My dads boss bought his son one an it was shooting flames out the exhaust so bad it melted the mud flap with only 2,000 miles on it. I’m the biggest GM guy ever but the 6.7 is the truth, that motor is a monster. But so is the new duramax.
I'm not a fan of the Duramax but the LBZ is a awesome engine. The Oshkosh JLTV/LATV all have the 6.6L with 350 HP/700 TQ,since 2015 but the USMC didn't get them until 2019.And it's also deleted, they don't have any of that EGR,DEF,and DPF bullshit where the engine is choking on it's own shit and can't run at full potential.Military trucks are technically all EPA exempt. The LBZ is also used in the Navistar CV,which is basically a Topkick/Kodiak with a Silverado cab and bed put on it,it's a copy with a IH badge put on it,I don't think even the frame or chassis is Non-G.M. The good Powerstrokes are the 7.3L and 6.7L.The 6.0L from 2005-2007 however is a good engine too.
so what your saying is from factory its going to blow up right after the warranty runs out vs Toyota which is over engineered and built right to last a life time or two
I had an 08 6.4 crew cab long bed F250 that ran 12.20s all day long with just a tune, exhaust and injectors, oh it was deleted of course. Drove the literal shit out of that truck all across the country until it blew up at about 250k. Loved that truck. If you delete em early in the engines life and be diligent about fluid changes they can be really good trucks. I just ended up 12v Cummins swapping mine lol.

LOL I had a build 1 2008 6.4 f350. It was new with 3k miles. I sat at a light, it went into regen, and I was unknowingly blowing a 6' flame out the tailpipe. We could smell burning plastic. Looked over and I had liquified the light and bumber on the car next to me. So we blew the light and took off! LOL
I am jealous of your headlights. I wanted to try and get some headlights that looked like that for my truck, but they didn't make that style for my year. Got me the alpharex luxx

I literally just about had a stroke when I read that title. I thought I had to open a can of "Are you fucking dumb?" But at the same time, you make do with what you can.
It dumps more fuel to aid in the catalyst event. The dpf tank will release a measured amount of urea into the diesel particulate filter and will generate a ridiculous amount of heat.
@@benjaminturpin2749 it does have a Regen event, where it purposely floods the back cylinders one on each bank and idles the engine high. It creates a ridiculous amount of heat.

That looks pretty dark in those turbos thought you gave that truck a early delete?😢. Can't imagine what engineer would run soot back through the intake and mix with a perfectly calibrated air fuel mix to give the best combustion possible then run that through highly machined turbos with contaminants of carbon and fuel. Fuel is not a lubricant and carbon is an abrasive like diamonds. Why don't you just spray a valve lapping compound through your turbocharger as well all that goo sticking to your vaining putting your turbos out of balance. This video is a few years old. But hay. All good. I'm running my early deleted 08/ 6.4 it's the end of 2023 she only has 140K miles. Kept the tune down Stock or tow. Tried steer setting but never had the use for that much HP😂 rain snow etc. I also tuned down the low boost fuel to#2 the tune was set at the factory at #3 out of a possible 5. Still have great performance and zero coal in stop and go trafic. Maintain timely maintenance drain the fuel water separator regularly. Got rid of that stock cold air intake filter that just choked the life out of that engine. All said improved the MPG by 1/3 still these engines are fuel hogs but a huge improvement. I don't know what happened. But my transmission showed what looked like coffee grinds in the oil So I just said what the hell and gave it an up grade. Would love to posietrack the rear end but for now I have spent enough fixing what the manufacturer should have. I love this truck. Next I not looking forward to will be the valve rack. I heard Bill at Bulletproof had valve covers that that sprayed more oil around the top end that was to healp that area maybe he still has a set of valve covers

The good Powerstrokes are the 7.3L and 6.7L.The 6.0L from 2005-2007 however is a good engine too.
so what your saying is from factory its going to blow up right after the warranty runs out vs Toyota which is over engineered and built right to last a life time or two
Sorry for your loss man
I had an 08 6.4 crew cab long bed F250 that ran 12.20s all day long with just a tune, exhaust and injectors, oh it was deleted of course. Drove the literal shit out of that truck all across the country until it blew up at about 250k. Loved that truck. If you delete em early in the engines life and be diligent about fluid changes they can be really good trucks. I just ended up 12v Cummins swapping mine lol.
Poe is getting in good shape!
Nothing wrong with Powerstrokes. Certain ones had problems for sure. But 7.3 and 6.7 are fantastic.
Yes sir love you Poe keep doing what your doing
Man that is my favorite Ford super duty just because they look so badass, it was also in one of my favorite games Alan wake where you could drive one around. Yeah the 6.4 is ass but so are Porsche motors 😭 doesn’t mean I don’t want one
I currently own a tundra and you are absolutely riie.
You got a ford curse bro lol. I’ve had my 6.4 since 2013 an ive only had a couple of minor issues . I’ve got it rebuilt recently since I plan to throw a little bit more power at it but other than that it’s reliable, just like any diesel ,ya take care of it an it will last you
I've had my 6.4 since 2012, never had a single issue with it.
This is an awesome video keep up the great content from Brisbane, Australia 🇦🇺
LOL I had a build 1 2008 6.4 f350. It was new with 3k miles. I sat at a light, it went into regen, and I was unknowingly blowing a 6' flame out the tailpipe. We could smell burning plastic. Looked over and I had liquified the light and bumber on the car next to me. So we blew the light and took off! LOL
Sorry for your loss man 😢
Poe if you keep a Ford motor in yeet try getting a cheap 5.4 you won’t regret it
Don’t get rid of your dads truck I love that thing
This Guy is just plain EXCELLENT! Thanks!
The 6.4 is extremely hit and miss. But I do agree delete it. And just make sure it's got good fuel and keep an eye on the egt's
250k miles on mine deleted and tuned tow miles, 46 psi with intake full 5
H&s Tune delete egr dpf, cold air intake and you have 600hp! Great trucks
Also lucas oil!!
Sorry for your loss
Love to see how to Re&Re lower rad hose
Out of the 6,500 languages poe could be speaking, he's speaking straight facts
Yeah that Chevy plastic is really good! Said nobody ever:
Very informative very well spoken really good video
I am jealous of your headlights. I wanted to try and get some headlights that looked like that for my truck, but they didn't make that style for my year. Got me the alpharex luxx
Hahaha I'm Jealous of your truck!
the intro was firee
Is THAT why I couldn't tell if the tank was full or empty when I was driving that truck??!! Lol Great video kiddo! Miss ya!!
Let’s goo a pie boys upload
I’m sorry about your dad. Super clean truck
Hey poe love the videos, you should do a 351w swap in one of the mustangs and keep it all Ford. Plus it’s easy and parts are dirt cheap.
Do you still have the 7.3? Also love the content keep it coming
He sold a longtime ago
My dad was about to get a 08 dually ford then i told him about the problems now he gettin a 2013-2016 ford f350 with the 6.7 so he gets no problems
The first generation 6.7 has its own problems but they didn’t show up for me until 350k miles. You can get your monies worth for sure
Every engine will have problems. Proper maintenance is the biggest thing. Mechanical parts will always fail at some point or another, fact of life you won’t prove me different.
The 6.4 I had for a work truck had all the issues.. dpf was deleted the turbos were replaced it was making the same noise
I literally just about had a stroke when I read that title.
I thought I had to open a can of "Are you fucking dumb?"
But at the same time, you make do with what you can.
Don’t get rid of the truck Poe ! It was ur pops
Love my 6.4
My 6.4 quit starting at 178k . Been at Ford for 2 months and they kind of gave up on it . They tried many things
“There’s too many plastic parts!”
BMW: “Hold my beer.”
It dumps more fuel to aid in the catalyst event. The dpf tank will release a measured amount of urea into the diesel particulate filter and will generate a ridiculous amount of heat.
6.4s don't have def
@@benjaminturpin2749 it does have a Regen event, where it purposely floods the back cylinders one on each bank and idles the engine high. It creates a ridiculous amount of heat.
@@benjaminturpin2749 def systems operate similarly is what I was trying to say but shortened.
Sorry for your loss poe
I love the little added in giggity when he was talking🤣
PowerJOKE is what theyre called... Get em Poe!!!
It may be about as reliable as a paper boat but man do they sound good
My dad took it to Mexico and took out all the emissions stuff and when you accelerate it some black smoke comes out like if it’s a old diesel
You are wrong about why the cavitation happens. The cavitation takes place as a result of EGR TUBES fouling up coolant system. Once you delete truck you need to add the ford coolant additive to prevent cavitation behind water pump
We own 15 powerstrokes bud and we beat the ever living crap out of them every day plow overtow and they run hours on end in winter 4hi the powerstrokes are better than the duramaxes we have all brands and the fords are more reliable than all of them 2 6.4 and 2 6.0 never a issue one pump on 6.0 and one set of injectors all stock engines and og
Duramax
Your well informed on these bad boys. I think you should keep this thing, broski. Your aware of how to treat it and it has sentimental value... ill apologize to your wallet ahead of time...
But my transmission showed what looked like coffee grinds in the oil
So I just said what the hell and gave it an up grade.
