Longtime Smash Mouth lead singer dies

Tributes are rolling in for the longtime front man of one of the best known bands to ever come out of the south bay. Smash Mouth singer Steve Harrell has died at the age of 56. Robert Handa, who first interviewed Harrell 17 years ago, now looks back at his lasting impression on pop culture.

I remember passing by Steve as he parked his car along Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose many years ago. Loved listening to his music and his band when I was in college. RIP Steve!
