@throughtrance I enjoy starting out with loops to get the sound I'm looking for. From there on I build and edit most loops, slice them up for re-arrangement. I'm not in favor of when it's obvious that you use the same loops as everyone else, but you got to start somewhere :)
this is brilliant, i've been searching for a video like this for ages, no bullshit straight to the point. Thanks a million hope to see more great videos from you soon.
I made the change from FL to Ableton a couple of months ago and finding the right sort of workflow obviously takes just time to see what suits. It's cool to see how other people go about it and although very different style of production to myself it's great to see how other people do their thing, so cheers!
Jezper, you're such a legend for sharing stuff like this!! It's really interesting to see how others go out about producing, basically seeing you're mindset in action! So awesome, thanks man!! :)
YESSSSS!!!! AIRBASE VIDEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Man I start missing you and your voice and your knowledge that gets passed into my brains! You cant be doing this to me man. It's been too long! Hey do me a favor and in your next video say "nothing weird" haha man I LOVE it! lol k thanks man. Ur awesome.
I know this only a demo but it shows perfectly how difficult it is to fit presets in a track. It's way easier (and imo fun) to design sounds. And then the sounds fit much better for sure.
I've never used Logic, and I've heard the built-in synths/sounds/fx are all phenomenal...but I can assure you, Ableton's attention to workflow is not something to take lightly. I used Reason for a long time, but once I switched to Ableton and got the basics down, it streamlined my process so well, it's hard to argue with. Definitely check it out.
this was amazing. i'm trying to throw away FL studio for good (a program i've been using for 3-4 years now) as i clearly know the potential of Ableton & have experimented with it. Its just the change that is the challenge. Switching over, and learning the work flow. Being able to throw your ideas at it without limits. Without things holding you back. Thanks again for this!
@Senj1n actually, he set the lower frequencies to mono. if you watch it again, you may see that he's not lowering the volume but the mono/stereo setting
@kb1629 I'm not very good with making patches from scratch. Until I get good, I prefer browsing for the closest sound I can find, and then tweak it from there. In this video however, I rushed a bit, just to show how it generally would look.
@AirbaseOfficial That is very true. I don't mean that it's a bad thing at all, but I'm just one of those people who can base a whole track on one sample I love, so yeah, I tend to try and focus a bit. Thanks heaps for your reply!
I find it so much quicker to just design the sound from my head rather than trawl through presets. Often I'll find a really good one and get totally distracted and try a new sound or track >.< Thanks for the great video!
pro tip for Airbase - shift + up/down arrow will move notes up/down an octave Nice video though man. Would be great to see how you move between session and arrange view, that's where I seriously slow down. ...I think I've made enough banging loops in session view to make my own sample pack!
Great video! I been doing my production a similar way... some hiphop though but man you have Ableton down! I could definitely work like that but it will take me twice the time. Great video!
@0liverwarren Have you ever tried designing sounds? It's not that difficult you know. And the presets are usually there only to showcase what the synth is capable of doing. Start from basic waveforms and work your way up from there. There are some great tutorials on sound designing in Tube also.
I think he meant as in alot of famous producers use drum loops, which is true. A lot of early hiphop/breakbeat producers chop them up. Same as early 90s dnb. Of course not all.
hey just so you know, when you drag a wav onto the midi effects place the sampler comes up automatically, so you don't have to bring up the sampler every single time
@throughtrance same here bro;) but you see that its not always bad to use loops:), you can see in here that just a littlebit retouch or fill in with other loops can make it sound a lot better and make it more your style
I got really interested in using groove(swing) do you know of any external plugin that would work that way, I'm using FL at the moment and I know there's an internal Swing but I believe it affects all channels, correct me if I'm wrong :) Nice video!! Cheers
Hej Jezper! :)
Hey Jezper, I understand you're adding the Waves Renaissance Bass plugin for extra harmonics, but I don't understand what that MDA Stereo plugin is doing? I guess it's the free Smartelectronix one (about Haas delay and comb filtering). It seems you're adding this plugin without selecting or changing parameters. Can you explain what's it doing (for the bass I guess)? That would be really helpfull, thanks!
@wolfy5000 lol i know man, i meant u can press record in ableton and then start playing notes from ur keyboard, when you are done, will they appear ? .... i want to know if you can do that without a midi keyboard. my question is not as noob as you think :D .. at least that what i think :/ .. thanx for your time
@AirbaseOfficial oh , my bad then!, good idea on using the loops in search of ideas.!, But please don´t use them like Steve Angello did in "kna!", that´s just wrong!, cheers! and keep up the good work
@kb1629 Maybe. If you know how to produce the sound in your head perfectly from scratch though, you're a much better producer than I (and apparently Airbase) am.
@999LightBeam666 yeah you can do it with you computer keyboard but thats shit casue they have no velocity and the quantise engine atleast i think isnt very good in ableton so its just better to draw them in anyway!
a genius at work
I asked for it years ago and finally this video is online!
Thanks, Jezper!
@throughtrance I enjoy starting out with loops to get the sound I'm looking for. From there on I build and edit most loops, slice them up for re-arrangement. I'm not in favor of when it's obvious that you use the same loops as everyone else, but you got to start somewhere :)
@Electrodia Total distraction and inspiration from other sounds than you had in mind is just what I like. That way, you'll surprise yourself.
this is brilliant, i've been searching for a video like this for ages, no bullshit straight to the point. Thanks a million hope to see more great videos from you soon.

This is great stuff! Never seen a tutorial that just cuts through the crap and shows, "Hey, this is how I produce." Thanks for the share!
Ur awesome.
oh man awesome can't wait sit down later to watch this
amazing, I could watch this all day. Keep it up man.
I know this only a demo but it shows perfectly how difficult it is to fit presets in a track. It's way easier (and imo fun) to design sounds. And then the sounds fit much better for sure.
We need more of these tutorials!!!! please make more continuing this track! would love to see how it arranged fully!
Thx Airbase! Best tutorial so far. CU tonight at Energy good luck!

Fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much!

please post more, your vids are the best Jezper!
@Senj1n actually, he set the lower frequencies to mono. if you watch it again, you may see that he's not lowering the volume but the mono/stereo setting
@stevenvg Album out in a week :)
Thanks for the insight on making a track
I hope this means your coming out with a new track/cd soon back was my fav track of 2009
very cool jezper to see how a workflow is flowing thx.
i was missing u 2. ;)
Great vid,thanks!Where the loops are from???
@kb1629 I'm not very good with making patches from scratch. Until I get good, I prefer browsing for the closest sound I can find, and then tweak it from there. In this video however, I rushed a bit, just to show how it generally would look.
This is really cool big thanks

Thanks for the great video!
i start from drums too. =D long time no see Jezper! We waited your tutorials like months
@jforrer0229 Yeah I know, but using Ableton since that feature wasn't there, it's just so deeply rooted that it happens automatically this way :)
pro tip for Airbase - shift + up/down arrow will move notes up/down an octave
Nice video though man. Would be great to see how you move between session and arrange view, that's where I seriously slow down. ...I think I've made enough banging loops in session view to make my own sample pack!
wow those samples sound so tight and wide and that without any processing
I love you Jezper.
Great video! I been doing my production a similar way... some hiphop though but man you have Ableton down! I could definitely work like that but it will take me twice the time. Great video!
fantastic stuff, thanks for sharing :-) :-)

That was pretty cool;
You're fast as hell;
I wanted to see you arrange the track all the way to the end tho
Great vid thanks for sharing. What is the PBM Loop pack, I really like the sound of some of the loops in there?!
I didn't want that to end :( EVER
I think he meant as in alot of famous producers use drum loops, which is true. A lot of early hiphop/breakbeat producers chop them up. Same as early 90s dnb. Of course not all.

perfect!!!!
Jezper you're a god
amazing mate!
@fotinos643 Cuz you have more controll for the subbass on frequencies you can't hear anyway and makes the sound "muddy"
@JohnStigterMusic Did you find out, because the samples sound great. I've searched for it on google but couldn't find it
I miss these tutorials and ableton runs
This reminds me of tetrisphere, which is nice.
I got really interested in using groove(swing) do you know of any external plugin that would work that way, I'm using FL at the moment and I know there's an internal Swing but I believe it affects all channels, correct me if I'm wrong :)
Nice video!!
Cheers
thanks for sharing Airbass
are these (kick) samples from "freshlysqueezedsamples - ultimate percussion"?
they sound sweeeet!
THANK YOU

MORE MORE MORE!!!
Having a empty drum machine preset with all samplers just drop the sample on the proper slot on the sampler more options then simpler, but hey.
Sounds sick but its the preset drum loops that make it. Yes you've put skill into the rest of it but this is hardly from scratch
@orientalflux u cant compare dune(fm synths) with Virtual Analog Synths=Sylenth1/V-Station!
i think i'll test dune after the vid!
@AirbaseOfficial it's about time :P
@stivikoller yes
Yeah, alot of good producers will use Drum Loops/Sampled stuff... but they re-use them, chop them up, EQ them, add their own twist to them =)
will there be uploaded more of this (the next 40minutes)? :-)
Mint
do most dj's use pre-recorded mixes when they perfomrm live like guetta ?
Please do a breakdown tutorial. That's the hardest thing I'm finding. :(
@AirbaseOfficial oh , my bad then!, good idea on using the loops in search of ideas.!, But please don´t use them like Steve Angello did in "kna!", that´s just wrong!, cheers! and keep up the good work
I wonder what "PBM vol. 2" samples are :)
Does many (famous) producers use sample-pack drum loops in their songs?
@35:55 thats a great tip :) its so simple ;) thx
Airbase, what do you do when you feel frustrated for a track, when try and try hard but nothing good arrises?
Vengeance.
So you switched Sylenth for Dune? :-/ Permamently, or Sylent 1 is still in your use? :-)
what version of ableton did you buy? with all the samples and instruments you used in here?
@999LightBeam666 yes, you jsut draw them in with the mouse
@kb1629 Maybe. If you know how to produce the sound in your head perfectly from scratch though, you're a much better producer than I (and apparently Airbase) am.
@DeanKennyMusic That's pretty much it. I mean it's a fucking dance track, what more do you expect?
Yeah whats the PBM Samples?
@999LightBeam666 yes, using the keyboard
Jezper where do u get ur kick samples.
All.
leon bolier style
Man Ableton looks so much more streamlined and faster to work with than Logic
@Electrodia lol that happens to me all the time with presets, !! and I get so annoyed :D
Depends on the task, really.
@999LightBeam666 yeah you can do it with you computer keyboard but thats shit casue they have no velocity and the quantise engine atleast i think isnt very good in ableton so its just better to draw them in anyway!
@stivikoller exactly what i have! cool :)
What samples u use? I think, u didn't use vec, veh
what sample pack are the first drum grooves?
what is the name of this program ?
ableton live
Anyone know of a tutorial on how to make the actual loop?
What sample library are loops from???
why did this video not appear in my Subscription box? WTF youtube..
what's the program you are using???
Where are those god damn loops from? Will someone please answer the question?
where did you get all these instruments??
where did you get these drum samples!?
are they vengeance samples?
