After just replacing the alternators myself, this was very useful. That said they wench trick when "popping" out the alternators wasn't anywhere as easy as yours.
I just want to say that the ideal you gave me to put the wrench behind the alternator too wedge it and get it pushed out was amazing thank. I was stuck on that it worked wonders
Really well done tutorial. Short, sweet, and to the point. Bonus points for including your son in the wrenching! Without a shop class at most schools, they have to learn these life skills at home now,. Then again, it's just how they best learn most things anyhow.
This is how all DIY car replacement videos should be. Very thorough and well explained. Mine is currently in the shop getting looked. Just want to make sure that the alternator is the issue before I manually do it myself. How did you know yours needed replacement? I’m getting a whining noise when it starts and when I press the gas pedal.
Thanks for the kind comment. My issue was a bit more obvious, the battery light was coming on and it was killing the battery. A whining noise can be a little more tricky to diagnose. Hope the video helps you and I hope that everything works out well for you. It definitely stinks to pay so much for auto repairs.
Great video, im using it to help my dad change our alternator, thank you for doing this, this was about the only video I could find on a 2010 grand caravan
Thanks for the video. nicely explained and the first time I tried and was able to change the Alternator of my van. I like the way you explained how to lose the tension of the alternator belt. It was very easy and saved a lot of time.
Thanks for the video. and Thanks to Stephen Kelley questions. I was going to ask the same question about disconnect the battery. also Thanks to paulie j who took the time to answer the question. good bless everyone here.
First off! Thank you for the video! Secondly, How much did your alternator cost?/where did you buy it? My car is in the shop right now and it doesn't start, no electricity whatsoever. And they want 1000 to fix the battery and alternator. Thank you either way for the easy to follow video
I think I paid around $150.00 for the alternator and I bought it from O'Reilly Auto Parts. You could definitely save a lot of money doing this repair yourself. Hope this helps and thanks!
Always disconnect the negative terminal. Wedge it out of the way so it doesn't float back up to the post and contact it inadvertently. No need to bother with the positive terminal unless you need to remove the battery.

Hey man, thanks for this. Very easy to follow and even showed how to de-tension the belt which I always struggled with.

One of the best tutorials I have ever watched, generally speaking. You're good at this, and it's much appreciated!

You're very welcome.
Thank you! Thanks for giving the socket sizes too!
Thanks dad
Be easier if you bought the proper tool to do this. But your way is ok too, if you don't have the tool. Good video.

Great explanation - one question for you, do you have to disconnect the battery before doing this?
