      That would be Alan Tarney. Tony Mansfield produced the original with a Fairlight CMI, but the band didn't like the way it sounded, and the song failed to chart.
      Tarney allowed A-ha to re-record the song, and it did better, boosted by the video.

      One great detail a fellow by the name Vaughn George pointed out while analyzing the stems to Talk Talk’s It’s My Life, is how flawed these songs actually are when you listen to the individual tracks. Unless sequenced on a synth or drum machine, the musicians aren’t playing perfectly. Sometimes the singer doesn’t sing perfectly on pitch, or you hear a bass guitar note played slightly off time.
      And in the context of the full song, you NEVER notice this. This is exactly how music is supposed to be. It had this beautiful human element to it that just makes this music stand heads and shoulders above the current hits.
      In the current day producers tempo-align all the drums, slap autotune on the singer’s voice, and polish everything up until it sounds literally perfect like some kind of machine. The old hits from before the days of advanced software editing were truly something magical. I can’t listen to anything on the Top 40 today because of this.

      It sure sounds like something inbetween a demo and the finalized multitrack. If it were the finalized version you wouldn't have unfinished stuff at the end, even its often faded out (Single Mix 2015 remastered), but there is a real ending on the Official video. Most the stems I have found don't sound like they are from the original masters which you can be darn sure is normally kept in very safe places. It is most likely from intermediate pre masters that even not perfect were still kept and at some pont leaked on purpose cause its 30, 40 or more years ago they were made. And it's still golden to get a slightly imperfect stem, cause you can learn so much from it if only for personal use or if you are actually studying mixing and mastering techniques. Or you can actually borrow some loops, riffs or a backing vocal for a mashup

      It's a mix of of 2 different sounds, one is the panning arpeggio sound. I've split the stems up to easyer to see each sound on a single track. I do believe some of the synth sounds is made up of either 2 or more synths triggered via midi or maybe premixed and recorded to a single track to save track space so you can keep it on one tape machine.

      If you get some of these leaked stems from early 80's recordings, you can actually hear wich neighbour tracks they had on the 2". I never realised how much bleed there were when you had to put 24 tracks onto tape. Just imagine the work to cut and slice tape together compared to how easy it is in a modern daw ..

    • @mrdali67
      @mrdali67 2 года назад +1

      @@BobbyGeneric145 Thats true, you can delete digital stuff in a matter of milli seconds without any chance of getting it back unless you have backups. But tape even Its stored in metal cases under optimal conditions will deteorises slowly over time. And too many master tapes is not stored under those recommended conditions. If we are talking modern storage media, that isn’t based on magnetic or laser disks there is no deteorising of the digital data, but of course both analog and digital storage can get destroyed if not done oroperly. But digital storage that is stored on non volatile media is in general a much safer solution. There is a reason why both old music and film collections is being digitized and stored on large mirrored media databases when Its worth the money it cost to do so

    Really doubt this is from the production takes. The lead vocals isn't stellar, and the last 30% is totally off. several synt parts from the official release is missing and they didn't even finnish the drum programming. Missing of beat Kick on the whole song which is kinda added a few bars in the end on top of the DX track, which is a really mess and bad sounding. But the overall quality of the takes is decent, tho will take a some skills to get this mixed together to sound like the Single mix release. I am surely not a pro. I simply can't get that snare to sound anything like on the original. .. . but I keep trying :)
