    This is so cool! The game has so much potential.

      Thanks! It's getting there, slowly!

    By last part, when buggy jumps in desert and yiu see driver’s legs running under the car... just loved it. I wonder what could happen to a car if launching in with my servo catapults 😍😍 very excited by this game

      Legs, what legs? Nothing to see here, move along. Haha yes, at some point I need to focus back on the player character, put in proper animations and so on. But until then he'll have to continue doing his Fred Flintstone impression...

    Big and good work for 1 man my friend! I think if you add to the game gimbal drive or simply hinges (swivel joint) with a choice of parameters, the game even in this form will be one of the best in the world of such sandboxes.

    Damn, despite some similar sounds, some of them and mostly the scrapping ones (0:25) sounds so cool
    Wonder if different materials would make a difference in these crashes or even have their own sounds

    • @cosiDIVerso
      @cosiDIVerso 6 лет назад +2

      Yes and not only, sound pitch varies with piece size, so is kinda possibke create some sort of music instrument

    • @GearBlocks
      @GearBlocks  5 лет назад +2

      Yes, different materials have different strengths (some break easier than others), and they have different impact and sliding sounds. The sounds are placeholder for now which might be why they all sound a bit samey.

      @@cosiDIVerso Yeah, this idea had occurred to me too, you could create a sort of xylophone thing and use servos to activate the mallets!

      Cheers! Yeah exactly, if your machine can fling objects around, it becomes a weapon of war with explosives. Boom!

    Your work on this has been really impressive! Is every piece a rigidbody connected by a joint to allow those separations?

    • @GearBlocks
      @GearBlocks  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I use joints for hinges, sliders etc. but parts that are rigidly attached together are merged into a single rigidbody (and split into separate rigidbodies when they break apart).

    why are the blocks in this game held together by glue?

  • @jojolafrite90
    @jojolafrite90 5 лет назад

    Would it be possible to have a system of beam and nodes like in beamNG? So the parts can deform too?

    • @GearBlocks
      @GearBlocks  5 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately no, not really. As I understand it, BeamNG uses a form of soft-body physics with, as you say, a system of interconnected beams and nodes. Whereas GearBlocks uses the more traditional rigid-body physics. I guess the closest I could get would be to make each part its own rigidbody and connect them together with fixed (but slightly springy) constraints. However, that would heavily impact physics performance, as there would be a lot more rigidbodies and constraints to evaluate.

    are you planning to add some watercraft features to the game?

    • @GearBlocks
      @GearBlocks  5 лет назад +2

      That's on my list of things I'd like to implement eventually (specifically: physics support for water buoyancy & drag, and water rendering). If I do get the chance to do it, it likely wouldn't happen until after the initial early access release of the full game (which is still a way off).
