I had the opportunity to get to know Chelsea from our very days in the Sacramento music scene, we were on the same gig a time or two!! She is an incredible singer and also as she seems here, very down to earth and humble…good times.
I met Chelsea in 2013 after seeing her do an incredible set. She's one of the nicest and most humble people I've ever met. She was totally down to earth, super shy but easy to laugh with, like myself. Anybody to know her personally is lucky, she's a beautiful person.
Also BLACK SABBATH VOL. 4! Instant like! Although... "Changes"? really Chelsea though her reasoning for it breaking up all the heavy stuff makes sense considering her music. BLACK SABBATH!
I was expecting goth rock n black metal in her bag, but not really surprised by her selection. You can hear the influences in her music I think personally, Black sabbath makes the most sense to me though.
Arthur All good "country" music is dark. Pre Dolly Parton and Porter Wagner killing "real" country music. Authentic country music is the white equivalent of the original "blues" genre, not this abomination called country music which is basically pop rock with a "twang". Cheers Bru
her style is so all over the place I would have been way more surprised if she only had that kind of music. Her brother is King Dude who has done a lot of kinda dark country (or what I'd call country) stuff, she did an acoustic album with him, ect.
from other interviews for those interested in her music taste "Black Sabbath is top of the list for me when it comes to metal and rock bands. I adore Ozzy’s voice and they have so many good songs. Gaahl-era Gorgoroth, Motörhead, and Metallica are also up there. Also, my friends’ bands Russian Circles and Deafheaven are both killing it right now and they’re both so good live. I love a good metal scream, like in Slayer’s “Angel of Death,” Pink Floyd’s “Careful with that Axe Eugene” and Gorgoroth’s “Of Ice and Movement.” "I adore Brody Dalle.. I really like Anika.. Angel Haze.. Kim Gordon’s new project Body/Head is really cool, I saw them live in Portugal. Grimes is great. White Lung is killing it. Foie Gras is gonna do great things. My label-mate Emma Ruth Rundle makes really pretty songs.. I dig Nikki Lane.. Lana Del Rey.. PJ Harvey.. Patti Smith" "A couple different influential friends introduced me to black metal later in life and I was really drawn to the white noise, the sort of ancient feel, the strained agony in the voice. My favorite was (and still is) Gaahl-era Gorgoroth."
Sponge Bob Agreed. Also, there is much MUCH much better black metal out there than Gorgoroth. Gorgoroth are a bit of a joke actually...not even scraping the surface.
I loved her choices. They all seemed really heartfelt. Hey Good Lookin' has always been one of my favorites, it made me happy when she mentioned that song because I'm a fan of hers as well.
Rudimentary Peni is soooooooooooooooooooo criminally underrated....I give major props for anyone who knows about them and appreciates them. Erik Satie is also impressive
Rudimentary Peni is pretty well known in both punk and goth circles. I guess they're underrated in the sense that normies will never know them, which is a good thing imo. Lack of Knowledge and Hysteria Ward are examples of underrated bands.
She's awesome . I own 4 of her albums and Love them all . She's been constantly good since her first record and Hiss Spun is probably my favorite record of 2017 . Can't wait to see where she goes next .
Just terrific taste... the contrast that it has compared to her main style underlines her talent of incorporating so many different styles into her own beautiful music, giving it many different faces that you wouldn't really expect just from one artist. And in spite of being so productive in terms of releases, to this day she still remains (to most people) a treasure waiting to be discovered.
So cool to hear some of her favourite music! I was surprised to have so many in common with her that I'll have to check out her music! I love vol 4. Hands down my favourite sabbath album. I really like Satie too. As well as Townes Van Zandt. And Hank Williams. lol makes me feel super rad.
Quite impressed she's so into Townes Van Zandt. Very cool, she has great taste. Anybody who is serious about songwriting needs to (or already) listens to Townes.
Wow I liked every record she picked especially Rudimentary Peni and Townes Van Zandt. I'm going to have to pick up one of her records and check it out never heard of her before but she's got great influences/taste.
Arda I'm just saying your opinions are invalid because your president is sillier than the US's president. Come back in a year when Trump is president and then you can be in the driver's seat. RUclips is not the place for rational discourse. I wax my car with avocados.
Love her, got to meet her after one of her shows in Indy. They played with MINISTRY which was tight. So glad I got her album's and got an auto, which I'm not a HUGE fan of doing, but I just had to. Awesome.
There was hardly anything in "her bag" of references that either rang a bell with me or tickled my taste buds, until she pulled out Eric Satie... My first thought was, hey, one of my favorite composers is called Satie as well... To find out she actually meant the composer. I do see why this is her list, and I have to say, that van Zandt makes Country actually bearable, and the first time I really would like to learn more about an artist of this genre... I know, narrow minded probably. What I love most about her list is she has a quite a lot of music that honors her father it seems. To paint with a broad stereotypical brush: For a dark punk gloom rock kind a gal it is very off-beat but musically very mature to be so open minded in finding your own voice without bouncing off and alienating your childhood influences. I love her music, even though I only learned of her existence today! For me, she simply breached my prefrontal cortex, to just go for the kill and take my amygdala hostage rendering me defenseless; I'm shitting my pants yet not wanting to look for an exit because her music is so eerily beautiful... & Curious about her fathers music: was he an odd ball in country music, giving her this independent outlook? Or classic country and giving her that stable footing she seems to have? Either way, she's cute 'n creepy. Great combo!
For the love of god, she could be Brian Warner's little sister for all we know. Her musical palette is very diverse too. Peni, Stina Nordenstam, Erik Satie and country music. Wow.
The way she pronounces Satie is way off though. Only thing that bothered me. Not SAY-TEE. SAH-TEE. French. Other than that I agree with her tastes. Black Sabbath's Vol.4 is a thumbs up.
Romeo and Juliet Soundtrack!!! I remember stealing this from my older sister and listening to like 5 songs over and over. I was much younger than hs, but still!!!!!
Amazed that she didn't metioned Dead Can Dance, I always think of them when listening to her songs. Thought there must be some kind of impact or influence, but it seems it all was in my head -__- Well, as always, tbh
it's pretty cool how confident and unabashed by her choices she seems. it'd be too easy to play into what people expect of a "dark" artist such as herself.
She's _so_ soft-spoken. Could listen to her talk for hours.
I had the opportunity to get to know Chelsea from our very days in the Sacramento music scene, we were on the same gig a time or two!! She is an incredible singer and also as she seems here, very down to earth and humble…good times.

how lucky you are... and they are...this is one of my dream...
I discovered Townes Van Zandt through this. Thanks Chelsea.
Chelsea Wolfe is amazing. I love her music. She seems so genuine and cool.
Also BLACK SABBATH VOL. 4! Instant like! Although... "Changes"? really Chelsea though her reasoning for it breaking up all the heavy stuff makes sense considering her music. BLACK SABBATH!
That live Townes Van Zandt record is a masterpiece.
She comes across very genuine
I met her after one of her shows last year. She's indeed very genuine and humble.
+Seth Parker is she good live?
She's awesome live: ruclips.net/video/515XAIOhFwE/видео.html
Amoeba That was great! I must keep an eye out for her if she comes to Ireland.
She blew me backstage
So happy to see Townes will always be loved
I was expecting goth rock n black metal in her bag, but not really surprised by her selection. You can hear the influences in her music I think personally, Black sabbath makes the most sense to me though.
That and Rudi Peni
David Arriaga Some country is pretty dark. It's like if bluegrass was goth.
Arthur All good "country" music is dark. Pre Dolly Parton and Porter Wagner killing "real" country music. Authentic country music is the white equivalent of the original "blues" genre, not this abomination called country music which is basically pop rock with a "twang".
Cheers Bru
I agree. One must to listen to Fred Eaglesmith to get that edgy darkness now.
her style is so all over the place I would have been way more surprised if she only had that kind of music. Her brother is King Dude who has done a lot of kinda dark country (or what I'd call country) stuff, she did an acoustic album with him, ect.

angel haze, grimes, lans del rey - some of my faves, along with wolfe herself!
super cool
woah, so cool!
Ghaal era Gorgoroth was trash
Sponge Bob Agreed. Also, there is much MUCH much better black metal out there than Gorgoroth. Gorgoroth are a bit of a joke actually...not even scraping the surface.
Unchain My Heart is cool, tho.
I loved her choices. They all seemed really heartfelt. Hey Good Lookin' has always been one of my favorites, it made me happy when she mentioned that song because I'm a fan of hers as well.
See her live if you can. Incredible show.
Rudimentary Peni is soooooooooooooooooooo criminally underrated....I give major props for anyone who knows about them and appreciates them. Erik Satie is also impressive
Death Church is always gonna be on my top 3 albums of all time.
Blissful myth, rotten to the core, 1/4 dead, i just love rudimentery peni.

Can't wait to see where she goes next .
she reminds me of that youth group girl that only came to church because of her parents
+Chandler Beckner I'm pretty sure I was that girl.
+Urkel Grue same lol
Isn't that at least half of the people in youth group?
I tried to find you on the eh music video alas it twas a solo venture #mcridesquad
That was me lol!!

“Every song on this is the jam.” She’s such a homie 😍
I was expected some awesome Black Metal to be in her bag but Townes and Hank are good as well XD
Dallas Clark Well yeah, her dad used to be a country musician! Can't escape the family legacy, I suppose
Awesome picks, Vol. 4 is one of my favorite jams
So cool to hear some of her favourite music! I was surprised to have so many in common with her that I'll have to check out her music! I love vol 4. Hands down my favourite sabbath album. I really like Satie too. As well as Townes Van Zandt. And Hank Williams. lol makes me feel super rad.
Such a good episode. Amazing picks, and she's absolutely stellar. Quite beautiful as well.
Quite impressed she's so into Townes Van Zandt. Very cool, she has great taste. Anybody who is serious about songwriting needs to (or already) listens to Townes.
Chelsea Wolfe is one of the best contemporary artists of the metal/rock/folk genres.
Selda! Surprising first selection.
Clocking Rudimentary Peni? Unexpected and deeply impressed.
she had me with Volume 4 and Satie......love
Romeo + Juliet soundtrack is iconic, glad she said it
Wow I liked every record she picked especially Rudimentary Peni and Townes Van Zandt. I'm going to have to pick up one of her records and check it out never heard of her before but she's got great influences/taste.

"Listening to this always gives me a lot of energy."
Uh. I'll believe it when I see it.
Dude, you can't sense all that energy? It's oozing from her, man. She's ecstatic.
+Arda go back to peeing in your solid gold toilet!
Arda
haha you have a funny president Erdogan who has a 1,200 room palace 30 times the size of the white house full of (allegedly) solid gold toilets!
Arda
I'm just saying your opinions are invalid because your president is sillier than the US's president. Come back in a year when Trump is president and then you can be in the driver's seat.
RUclips is not the place for rational discourse. I wax my car with avocados.
+Arda selda rocks amigo, get your ears checked
Great Selection! 🎶🎶🎶🎤
Cool little numbers she picked.
She seems like a very nice down to earth chick. Only met her once briefly during a king dude show.
Greetings from the Selda Bağcan's country Turkey. We also enjoy listening to her.
She is so gorgeous. Damn.
She has a beautiful voice!
Vol 4 is probably my favorite Black Sabbath album. I love the heavy doom riffs.
Chelsea's music is so great, she has great taste too.
Rudimentary Peni! Fuck yeah. I love them too.
Love her, got to meet her after one of her shows in Indy. They played with MINISTRY which was tight. So glad I got her album's and got an auto, which I'm not a HUGE fan of doing, but I just had to. Awesome.

Sabbath 4 is a desert island top pick for sure!
For the love of god, she could be Brian Warner's little sister for all we know.
Her musical palette is very diverse too. Peni, Stina Nordenstam, Erik Satie and country music. Wow.
Yeah i thought the same thing about her look.
Delighted that she loves townes van zandt
I love her even more now that I know she loves nick blinko and Rudi Peni

Townes is my favorite. I love that she loves Townes Van Zandt.
She's magical
1:03 - "'Changes' is probably my favorite classic Black Sabbath song."
Remind me again why we're not married yet?
she has really interesting taste - Satie, Sabbath, and Townes van Zandt.... I heartily approve, and she seems lovely as well.
The way she pronounces Satie is way off though. Only thing that bothered me. Not SAY-TEE. SAH-TEE. French. Other than that I agree with her tastes. Black Sabbath's Vol.4 is a thumbs up.
Townes Van Zante is killer, so is Chelsea. Awesome!
She has an amazing taste in Music.

Can't believe she listens to Selda Bagcan!
it's pretty cool how confident and unabashed by her choices she seems. it'd be too easy to play into what people expect of a "dark" artist such as herself.
Chelsea Wolfe is my waifu
she cool
checking out selda right now actually. i liked that one. satie is of course a classic.
had to idea that "i'm going through changes" track was from black sabbath :O being watching charles bradley perform it
i'd expect her picking some pj harvey or underground black metal records rather than country
Her father was a country musician I believe.
Harley Robles i heard that, and she was inspired and taught to record by him recording his country songs
need to necropost on this. dude, it's townes van zandt and hank williams, what the fuck..
Aspiniou very PJ Harvey I'm feeling u
This is William melange's girlfriend
