So basically Barbados either : - score a goal in 10 minutes. But enemy could just defend, or - Self-goal for overtime's double score, and have more time to score. But until overtime, they have to defend both goals That's wild
@@fernando4959 Optimally Barbados should've just waited till the last minute. They'd have more time to try and score a goal while making sure that, in case Grenada scored a goal, they wouldn't need to catch up + the huge benefit of not having to defend both goals. That said, it's hard to come up with the perfect plan in the heat of the match, so I certainly don't blame them.
The reason why a sudden death goal counted twice was that after the goal the overtime would stop immediately. So the scoring team would have no chance to score more goals even if they were strong enough to do so.
You got it backwards I'm pretty sure, Barbados was the one not wanting the other team to score any goal. Well, it could be that I misunderstood your comment instead.

I'll try to explain as I understand it, sorry it's long cause I decide to make it as a story so it would hopefully be easier to understand. I'll make a simplified explanation after (at the bottom). _Keep in mind idk the actual context and I added my own assumptions to the situation._ *Before that though, I think this needs to be understood about football tournaments.* It's a football tournament and if you don't know how this goes, a team will fight each of the other teams once one by one and the rankings will be determined by comparing every team's wins, draws, and losses. But usually, that comparison is not enough, and in that case, the more winning team in the rankings are determined by the amount of goals scored vs the amount of goals received (basically how many more goals you score than the number of goals your opponents score on you, say you score 4 goals and opponent gets 1 score on your goal, you have 3 points from 4-1 = 3 and opponent -3 points from 1-4 = -3). Also, overtime is when a match score ends in a draw, so extra time is given to decide the match's victor (though it could still end in a draw even with extra time). *So here's the story as I understand it. Keep in mind idk the actual context and I added my own assumptions to the situation.* Barbados is fighting against Grenada. Thus far in the tournament rankings, Grenada is ahead of Barbados in the tournament leaderboards in terms of "wins draws and losses" as well as "goals scored vs goals received" (sorry idk the terms for these) and some other criteria that I forgot will be used for the decision if the ranking is still even by win rate & goal points (I think there's stuff like fair play with yellow and red cards and so on). For Barbados to advance in the tournament, they must win sure, but even if they do win, they're tied in wins draws and losses with Grenada hence the overall victor will be decided by goals and Grenada will still win as they are ahead by presumably 1 point in terms of goal scored. To win, Barbados must win against Grenada by at least 2 points as even if they win by 1 point, Grenada is still ahead (presumable reason above). Right now, Barbados is winning against Grenada by 2-1, ahead by only 1 point. There's only less than 10 minutes left before the match ends and Barbados must score one more goal to win the tournament. This is very hard and chances of victory are slim. But then, Barbados realized that they can win by scoring a goal against Grenada during overtime using the unusual rule of this particular tournament (where overtime is sudden death and one goal in overtime = 2 points), something much more conceivable. Hence, Barbados wants to make it into overtime by making the score of this match 2-2 via intentionally scoring to their own goal. At the same time, Grenada realized this and won't let it slide. As long as the match ends with any one point difference, regardless of who won the match, Grenada will still win the tournament. Grenada don't want overtime, which gives an easier chance for Barbados to score 2 points against them, so they try their best to score one more goal to any goal so that the currently 2-2 score will be 3-2 or 2-3 when the match ends (no overtime cause it's not a draw). Meanwhile, Barbados wants overtime, the 2-2 score mustn't be changed before match time ends (less than 10 minutes remaining), and so they tried their hardest not to let any goal from happening. Thus the strange situation. *Simplified explanation. Keep in mind idk the actual context and I added my own assumptions to the situation.* 1) 10 minutes left to the match 2) Barbados needs to win the match with 2 point difference to win tourney 3) (2) is hard to do with less than 10 mins remaining, so they wanna do it through overtime (where the special rules here is that any goal in overtime will equal 2 goals and end the match aka sudden death) 4) Barbados scores to their own goal, tying the score to 2-2 5) If match ends as it is, it will be overtime 6) Grenada realizes (3) and doesn't want overtime. They will win the tourney regardless of who won the match if there's only a 1 goal difference in the score. 7) From (6), Grenada tries to make the score to 3-2 or 2-3 within the remaining match time (less than 10 mins) 8) From (5) and (7), Barbados tries to prevent any goal from happening so the score is tied to 2-2 and match will continue to overtime.
here’s a simpler virsion Barbados’s is up 2-1 they need to win by 2 goals so they og instead of trying to score . but in overtime a goal is 2 points so the game is 2-2 grenada realises if they og Barbados may win 3-2 and they will lose but Barbados will be knocked out and if they score then they win and Barbados is knocked out so Grenada tired to og and score etc. and then overtime happens in which Barbados scores meaning they get 2 points
even when they lost, it’s absolutely insane how the other team not only manages to figure out their strategy within 5 minutes, but also figure out the perfect counter. i wonder how they managed to stop the other team from immediately scoring on themselves too lol
If Granada would've managed to owngoal, it would've been even crazier as everyone would just keep owngoaling from kickoff to either purposely lose or retie the game.
That's why rules changes are important and not to be taken lightly. Because they will come a time where someone somewhere will find themselves in a situation to exploit them
Honestly it’s wild y’all not talking about Grenada trying to also score in their own goal, and Barbados having to defend it too. Imagine having to defend _both_ goals, knowing damn well you’re not gonna get into the championships if you don’t.
Let me explain.. Let say Granada had 12 points and 16 Goals, if the game ended with B 2 : 1 G, the table would be, Granada 12p 16g, while Barbodos 12p 15g, so Grenada would win the league by goal, but if they go to over time and Barbados win by one goal that goal would count as 2 points plus the 3, they will win the league by two points total 14p, So Grenada realized that losing the game with one goal or Win with one goal would give them the title. But sadly they couldn’t even manage to lose when it mattered 😂
