Love the video since it helps to answer some questions I've had since I heard the news. Excellent work. That money, if handled properly, would go a very long way to pay teachers, police and others plus amp up the health care and education system. Not to mention other infrastructure like roads etc. Plus, over time it would ease the tax burden and effects of inflation on the typical Jamaican. I'm not even talking about the jobs this new industry would produce. This could propel us into becoming a first-world country. Keep up the good work and bless up yourself.
The government should set aside a predetermined percentage of Jamaica's oil income to put in each and every jamaican bank account annually for them to use it as they want. This would be in addition to government spending on economic, social, cultural and infrastructural areas.
The fact that the company wants 75% of the cost in the first year is crazy. That cost don’t involve training locals that cost don’t involve the low cost of labor. That is the cost of investing. Yes the rig and platform is there they bringing the workers and equipment. If Jamaica want to get more of the profit they need to take more cost. If it makes sense to get a loan buy the equipment themselves have them bring their employees to teach Jamaicans how to work in the industry. The method is already know Jamaican just need to start practicing how to do those jobs
1st off anysite out yere gets found with oil jamaica alredy signed a contract suh any overseas facility dst owns that land will reap all the profits all if is jamaicans work pan it u just a guh get paid yur fort night salary like any regular job Our gov will not get profits nor benefits frm the oil nor land till di contract is up An those oil contracts Is all 20,25 yearz Suh if dat even happen is foriegn investors aguh reep di profits for 2 + decades By time we gain control Its wats left we aguh get An it not going to worth muxh
RUclipsr the meeting by United Oil & Gas when they spoke about the 406 million barrels of unrisked mean prospective had the Jamaica High Commissioner for the UK was at the meeting.
Sir as a Guyanese oil was found in Guyana since in the sixties, but at that point in time the government wanted a 60/40 percentage and no company wanted to sign on to that contract until ExxonMobil came and get a a shit hole contract.
The thing I like is that they had known that there was oil in the region , think about it , why would they have a oil refinery in place for over how many yrs if they didn’t know that oil was there .. Somebody knew it was just a matter of time , just make sure politicians don’t line there greedy pockets and the citizens don’t get no benefit, just saying..
Nobody knew anything. They came to prospect and were looking for weeks. No where they found oil had any amount worth investing. They were leaving and a fisherman told a story bout an oil spring out by pedro bank. I wish he had kept his damn mouth shut.
Whenever any foreign companies extract any natural resources from any country they always want most of the proceeds, for example bauxite was mined by the Canadian but Jamaica only gets 45% of the profit, it was not until Edward Siaga ,he tell the bauxite company that Jamaica should get 55% and they get 45% some of them pack up and leave but some return most bauxite companies close down only the Nain Plant in st Elizabeth was not closed down.
Don't get too excited about this. Number 1 they have found oil but not enough to make it economical to get. Maybe one day they will but not yet. Also look at all the African countries with huge natural resources. The leaders of these countries become billionaires while the people starve in poverty. Why would Jamaica be any different. Look at bauxite yes it created jobs but thats it where's the money gone.
While oil is lucrative the fallout in the environment and the associated risks are to be noted. Jamaica relies on tourism as its highest current source of revenue and tourism delves a lot in nature and the natural scenery and beauty of jamaica how much do you think would be left after heavy long term oil production in the area .take for eg.environmental catastrophy going on in Nigeria due to oil production. Knowing this is a third world nation do you think the regulations will be adhered to the fullest especially the fact that this will be a new industry which will take bit of time for those employed to get fully educated and on par with world standards of operation .
We can use the profits from the oil to invest into more renewable energy sources like a solar scheme. Government is already pushing for less oil reliance and renewable adoption with solar tax exemptions and exemptions on electric car imports. We can't transition into renewables overnight and this gives a good buffer
Oil search is not easy, neither is it cheap!! Based on the rock formation or oil seeps, you can test to see if there’s enough worth recovery. It is definatly a process, and could take years.
There are a lot of confusion about the estimate Crude oil find in Jamaica they publish numbers ranging from 11, billion ,2.5 million - 2.6 Billion can somebody say what is correct number
The prospects for oil is promising. However United Gas & Oil is seeking a drilling partner to confirm the presence of commercial quantities so saying Jamaica has found oil is misleading at this point.
It’s not misleading why do you think there is so much development in Jamaica over recent years? It’s because the Jamaican government knew there was oil for some time but did not want to announce it as yet and besides where do you think they were going to get the money from to pay for all these projects think?
I would like to see us spend it on the ghetto projects and the roads and the gutters. Especially the capitals such as spanish town and kingston which should be more clean and reconstructed to look more beautiful🙌🏻 They say our island is beautiful but the communities are not in my perspective💯
Let me tell you this now. They did not find any oil in Jamaica at the moment. If and when they find oil in Jamaica, the local black Jamaicans will not benefit from it. All the benefits will all go to non black Jamaicans. The only benefit black Jamaicans will derive from it, are more cook shops, more low level laboring jobs. The white ruling class have already divvy up how the profits will be shared amongst themselves.
They did not say what kind of crude oil they they find in Jamaica, there the thick crude oil like asphalt grade crude oil that oil is not the best crude oil the best crude is named the sweet crude oil it is east to refine, because it's not costly ir hard to refine that's the oil everybody want, Saudi Arabia Kewit, Iraq, Nigeria USA, Venezuela produce a lot of sweet crude, I hop the Jamaica crude oil is the sweet crude because it,s nit hard to refine
Blind to the reality of what it takes to get oil out of the ground. Your eyes have to be wide open. International investment’s number # 1 requisite is , stability. Political and social stability that is rock solid and unshakable. Social cohesion . That ensures that, the billions in investment is assured to be returned back .
Says who??? Oil has been found all over Jamiaca since the 50’s, some not worth recovering! Where are you in history, or are you just trolling? Because you could not be a Jamaican and not know this history!

if we really have oil, I want 20% of the government's annual take to be divided equally among the 3 million Jamaicans. This would be distributed to the savings account of every Jamaican. That is the only way that Jamaicans would be guaranteed to get anything directly from the find.
How credible is this information? If it's a reality poor people will not benefit from that they will come up with all kinds of clause and excuses to say them protecting the revenues

My brother dont let no one fools you, there is no oil in Jamaica, before we can rejoice let the mining starts, and even if it is here it would not be a benefit to us, most of the wealth from oil will be in the hands of foreigners, there is not much that we Jamaicans need to rejoice, things like electricity will still be expensive, no improvement to our infrastructure. If you look at most African countries that have oil fields, the people are still living in poverty and not much going on for those countries.

EDUCATION, is key; this blog is good; JAMAICANS, need to read, and inquire about important things, instead of listening to DUNCES; everyday.
You cannot make an assestment, since oil price goes up and down. It’s a wait and see..
You can make assumption based on various number for oil prices and make projections
