My husband was gravely ill last year, he was suffering from a bone infection in his hip. When he was in the hospital and rehab/nursing home for 8 months, they gave him opioids like every 4 hours. When he came home he got really sick, shaking, diarreah, sweating. He put 2 and 2 together that he was having withdrawls. He's in pain a lot and will not touch opioids ever again. He said the withdrawls were worst than the pain. 😢 I cried when I watched this. Addiction is rampant everywhere.
And he’s not wrong I was once a fentanyl addict although not as bad as theese people I was buying pills laced with it and couldn’t stop for a good 6-8 months and in that time I screwed up a lot in my life… got my car repossessed, stole from family, and sold a lot of my own stuff it’s a terrible thing but once it takes your will you don’t care about anything or anyone. I’m now 2 years clean and pray that they can all get help and stay clean
I've heard Kratom is a plant that helps with pain relief without addiction. Many heroin users take it to get off of Class A's if they have real pain issues. Might be worth a look.
I am amazed about the ease these painkillers are given in the USA. I am an anesthesiologists, in Europe, involved in pain care and yes we do use opioids, but preferably limited to palliative end of life care. Extremely reluctant to just hand out opioids for a long time and certainly would not dismiss someone from hospital with an opioid dependency

That's exactly what happened to me. I'm 44 and just now getting it together, I think and hope for the last time. And it's really sad of I allow myself to think about it too long, all the things missed. Like decades with family who are in their 70s now and reality is they won't be here forever. The material things is whatever. I love music. "Time" by Pink Floyd is my favorite song and always has been and it just so clearly explains how I feel. It didn't have the meaning it has for me at 44 when I was a kid listening to it. Now I GET it.

People saying "they choose to live like this" must not know how addiction works. They made bad choices but once they became addicts their dignity and free will was lost. The majority of them will never overcome this grasp the opiates and stimulants have over them. It is truly heartbreaking. We must educate our kids and show them real life effects of drugs. Because given the right circumstances, this could happen to anyone.

This is so heartbreaking. I lost my brother to murder in a similar situation. We tried so hard to get him back before the ultimate end. There is never enough I can do to help this problem. Thank you for shining a light on it.
@@MrMohnd123 My mother gave him money... It was a much longer story, but somebody knew..... They ganged up on him tortured him for 15 hours and buried him in the desert. Five people were arrested. Many more on the street knew about it. I work with the unsheltered population and I run into familiar faces frequently. It is tragic.

Kensington is lacking in services; there are shelters, rehab facilities, a hospital near. The problem is the dealers are concentrated there. Most of the homeless in Kensington are addicts, and they aren't even from Kensington. Also, the Department of Sanitation, and the responsible residents often clean Kensington, but with all of the homeless addicts, it quickly becomes trashed in a day.

Many more on the street knew about it. I work with the unsheltered population and I run into familiar faces frequently. It is tragic.

Kensington is lacking in services; there are shelters, rehab facilities, a hospital near. The problem is the dealers are concentrated there. Most of the homeless in Kensington are addicts, and they aren't even from Kensington. Also, the Department of Sanitation, and the responsible residents often clean Kensington, but with all of the homeless addicts, it quickly becomes trashed in a day.

Go to an open Narcotics Anonymous meeting, people share their stories there all the time. Just make sure it’s an “open” meeting meaning open to everyone addict or not.

There are many people and charities that go to this area and deliver free food, medical care, water and clothes. At the VERY LEAST, shouldn't these addicts have to clean up their filthy mess in order to continue to receive these things? No one is even asking them to get a job to work for these benefits. Why can't they clean up their mess? The city provides trash bins but no one uses them. It's disgusting!

if they choose to live like this ...well I don't know if they truly had choices or not, what really makes me feels bad is human aren't born in this way😫 they might had a wonderful life, they might used to be a good father a good brother a talented sister and beloved daughter. they used to be cared and loved. I didn't have any clue of what they had gone through in life made them be like this! some ended their life on the street because of overdose.And some of them looks so painful and hopeless, awaiting the end.
