Vermicomposting: Worms in the bottom of my bird cage.

  • Instead of taking the bird droppings and wasted food outside to my worm bin, I decided to add worms to the bottom of my bird cage.
    I will be out of the country for 3 weeks, so this experiment can go on undisturbed for an entire 17 days. I’ll post an updated video at the end of the month!
    I am not worried about these worms running out of food and moisture, as my bird will continue to feed them while I am gone, as well as drop and spill water while she takes a bath!

    Nathalie, that's a fascinating experiment! I've heard people doing that with rabbit hutches, but never birds. If this doesn't work, you could roughly sift your birdcage material and put the larger seeds and nuts through a grinder before feeding them to your worms. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
