That all looks pretty good , but what is needed is SOUNDS! We need a beautiful town clock tolling out the hours. We need lots of water fountains.Cars banned, but bicycles allowed with bells on them, outdoor lunchtime concerts.Ask St.Peters in the City Presbyterian church to ring the church bells. Perhaps a carrilllion played each lunchtime as in Napier.Have a speakers corner, a town crier, and lots of trees and flowers.
Love it! Create a metropolitan city. Build a brand for Tauranga like Wellington "absolutely positively.." Add some great buildings as cornerstone structures and increase the arts, culture, theatre, and music. Add some colourful laneways for boutique retail and restaurants and what a city!
Great to see a long term plan = would love to see this heart pumping! Need some interactive sculptures in there like Wellington I think - and artwork outside - to get those tourists down there and have something to be proud of - other than our beautiful beach. Somewhere to go when it rains = the museum. Would like to see an interactive museum - rather than the conservative stuffy type.
The building concepts look great - but as people rightly comment, we need a lot more happening to transform this area into a genuine "city heart". I love some of the ideas mentioned in the comments below, like more cycle ways and a town clock. If you have more ideas about the "soft" elements for a city heart, then come to hear and participate in a discussion with Peter Kageyama (author of Love Where You Live) when he comes to town this month. The Chamber is holding a lunchtime event for business people, professionals and civic leaders on Thursday 21st July. More details at: tinyurl.com/h6wqkkq.
A vision of a city as a some sort of sim city, based on a concept of the city as existing as little more than a product. One where it is completely subservient to the interests of corporatism and big business sympathies. This is evidently another tragedy of the commons.
look at Melbornes Federation square , they have a performance area and large display screen
Looks awesome! exactly what Tga needs!
