That's where I first saw Kandinsky: at the Guggenheim. I hadn't even heard of him before that, being a right Philistine. I had only just arrived in New York on a sunny Sunday for a short business trip more than 30 years ago. Went for a stroll through Central Park and decided to pop into the Guggenheim (something else I'd never heard of. I know, I know) as it looked like such an interesting building. I took in an Ellsworth Kelly exhibition (very interesting) and then fell across the Kandinskys. Wow. One of those days that stays with you forever. Changed my whole outlook on painting and art and life.
So happy for you - I still remember standing in front of possibly my first Kandinsky in London, late 90s at the barbican centre, Russian masters, (I think) - art on the weekend was a regular pastime with friends 4:41 - but I was actually entranced somehow - not sure I’d call it spiritual but it was the start of a great love for me that’s for sure 🥰
I love this film. Thank you for sharing.
GREAT STUFF !!!!!! THANKS 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Thank you.
pay attention. This is how you teach art without being boring. Very compelling to watch. Never understood abstract art until now.
How can it be suggested that these paintings aren't pretty? They are among the most beautiful, intriguing images I've ever experienced.
Thanks a lot for sharing this movie! It was such a pleasure to watch❤️
KANDINSKY'S WORK IS ALIVE, SPEAKING, MOVING EVERYONE WHO CONTEMPLATES ITS ESSENCE. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS.
I love the hammy style. Once you get past the intro this movie is EXCEPTIONAL at helping learners visualize the timeline and location of his works! Morphing the riders and rowers really helps!
This is a very interesting video that illuminates the life of Kandinsky. Looked good.
inspiring biography; well done; you cant get enough of Kandinsky
ONG, MALAYSIA : Kandinsky's Art starts with the canvas as a dot that will pulsate, stretch, transform and give life and energy to the visible and invisible things that touch the body , mind and soul with stories to tell amg layers to explore. The music, the rhythme, religion, the sciences, the humanities, mathematical buoyancy will merge in and out of the canvas.
Kandinsky is a great asset to continued dialogue with fellow artists and non-Artist also.
Took the words out of my mouth. Pretty much.
Beautifully done documentary. Thank you for introducing us to this Russian creative genius. 👏👏👏
What a fantastic tribute! Magnificent!! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing
3:10 "Are you ready, really ready for Kandinsky, ready in your heart of hearts?" Heavens above!
I love this ! Thank you!
Some have the ability to "see" outside the box. Interlace with emotion, and presto ! we have distortions and surreal imagery. It is perception, that when sincere and truthful, can be alarming and, sometimes, quiet disturbing. gd. Yorkshire, England.
Out of body paintings,, Great video,, Mondrian !
Wow I am blown away by his art?😁😁
cool
love it!!!!!! the music
He understood that colour was part of Creation -represented by the Pleiades where each energy represents a colour and a sound Amazing Nyvlem Stone Wonderful
Beautiful !!!
This documentary absolutely refuses to let you look at the pictures Kandinsky painted. How frustrating.
...der Gentleman...mit dem Pferd😊
Painting with all your soul is what
abstract is all about?😗😗
Sounds like a ad for after shave !
Michael Mahoney These ads are not bad! ;-)
Brilliant ! Kadinsky one of my very favorite painter that transcends time and space... if only I could own one of his paintings
Kandinsky Rules !
Great artist🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
So, whose music most inspired him?
🙏😷🙏💙Thank You🙏😷🙏5-26-20💙🌎💙🌍💙🌏covidtime😔🙏😷
I'm studying this for school *cry*
Were these paintings done in oil or acrylics? I have gone to the museum for a few years. I went Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC in 2017. Haven't been to the Guggenheim museum yet.
Acrylics weren't invented them
Amazing works of art 🎨 ❤️
I really enjoyed this mini doc. on Kandinsky. Just imagine being him, and trying to break free from the social restrictions everywhere, but especially in the art world. I have to wonder how a new artist today can break free from today's social expectations or restrictions. Or do we even any?
Art is part of life for life is larger than Art but if we reach a point that can be streched into many elements with powerful imagination reaching perception and finally the truth. Then Art is Life and Life is Art? So the dividing line between a genius and a moron is pretty very fine. To see Art to the fullest,we must also use the sixth sense. Art is puzzling, perplexing and complicated for there many breaking points. We musy explore. ONG,
MALAYSIA.
honestly i'm more interested in the song that plays around 32:23 and what the name of it is,. Once it started playing, I payed more attention to it considering I enjoy his earlier works.
beautiful, exquisite production; now, a part of my art history class.
the narrations like jazz man in the fast show
Porqué los ponen en ingles.???
I will be sharing this with my students! Thank you for a wonderful addition to my Kandinsky unit!
Pity your fkn students, production line shit
No mention of "Concerning the Spiritual in Art"??....the book that shot him to global fame 1912??? Ridiculous!!
Never read it! Didn't know that existed. Extremely creative person then, writer and painter.
Ack, who thought this style of narration, the voice and the bizarre soundtrack made any sense together in this unwatchable movie. Poor Kandinsky.
Sublime su pintura. Necesidad interior. De lo espiritual en el Arte.
Stefan, I must agree with the comments of several who have arrived here before I have. At the risk of evaluating a gift horse -- why this commercial advertising narrator? I realize you have worked very hard and see you have done a very good job here. I wish for my comment to be constructive.
Who is here because of BAUHAUS, the 80s British rock band; and their song "Spy In The Cab".
Not at all, but I’ve always loved Bauhaus ;)
Very interesting this has renewed my love of art thank you.
I tried to watch this, love the artist, but found the film unwatchable
not possible
Try the one with the Wim Wenders music background. No narration (fortunately) and fabulous.
tamsinthai .....can you supply a link?
agreed,
well you tried
Very well done! I will share this with my Art Students!
Ha, fkn no brain, production line shit
No mention of a major influence on his artistic output, theosophy. That makes a film about the man, half baked.
This is a terribly pretentious movie, less about the artist than the movie director. Kandinsky deserves better
Exactly. I would throw in the word condescending into the mix as well.
I love Kandinsky! This creation is very far removed from Kandinsky. The choice of words, the style, and the terrible narration. It hurts to experience it.
I think this style was chosen because It was made for an exhibition... so it had to be a bit bigger than life. You're probably watching it on a browser eating Doritos.
Interesting theories as colour and sound are similar in description and most subjective hitting the musical scale, but with paint.
Wonderful!!!
I’m conflicted - I can gaze at any Kandinsky work all day, & there’s some really nice cinematography mixed in, even some of the music (sounds like The Bulgarian Voices choir?) is pleasant if misplaced; but the narrator & the words chosen.....some of it is insufferable :/
from Japan...🇯🇵
9.00 - I don't think it was that clear haystack by Monet.
maybe he thought cupcakes
What is the name of the song at 1:08?

Not my cup of tea, the colors clash in my opinion but the documentary is so helpful in my research
He's the greatest ---
thanks i was looking for this
I much prefer Kandinsky's later works. There i can feel the music, the harmony, the space. His earlier works, for me are too much, overdone, like he is trying too hard. But this is the creative process, 1st apparent chaos, & eventually arriving at clarity and beauty.
Superb ❤️
This made me love Russia a little bit more
mind blown
Youre easy to confuse dumb fuk
Like si has llegado aquí y te mola.
Спасибо дорогой Василий Васильевич за ваши великолепные работы.
Thank you Vasiliy!
The sound is slightly muffled, just enough to make a hard of hearing person such as myself wish for closed captioning. I've come up against this before. Since the narration is important to this video I found it terribly frustrating to watch and gave up after only 4 minutes of viewing.
Good production!
lol
beautiful colors with no content
Give credit to the woman discussing his early paintings, 1907.
do not like the style of narration... not good at all...
This is the most fucking annoying documentary that I have ever watched... I love documentaries. I love Kandinsky
I can't watch nor listen to this (awful narration/voice), shame.
The colours are the wrong shape!
The most patronizing voice over... couldn’t listen anymore than 5 mlns.
maybe a lot was lost in translation. The film was made for a german language audience.
Superman Film
Starts great then the woam who needs some fresh clothes takes over from the painting- terrible.
Such a disrespectful film about Kandinsky. In every respect the narrator completely missed the genius of this man. I have studied Kandinsky and bought all his books on the spiritual in art..... This film says absolutely NOTHING about the man. The narrator is totally CREEPY.
He is one of the greatest artists ..In my opinion
the narrators voice and style don't bother me. Yes he is pretentious, patronizing, pompous - and many other P words. But ironically, he is not pretending. I know he is over the top and manipulating, he knows he is over the top and manipulating. Truth is, most of the people you talked to today are more pretentious then this character. You just don't know it.
Horrible narration. Could not watch it for mre than 4 minutes. Too bad I actually wanted to watch it.
Free Ukraine 🇺🇦
He is not a genius. He is a painter. Such hyperbole.
Poemsapennyeach And a theorist. And a teacher.
Like, the hanging gardens of Babylon are just a garden.
Is that hyperbowl or hyperbely?
Kandinsky looks confused af
Nice documentary spoilt by the painful voice-over.
I was really excited to watch this but could not listen to the awful narration style, very disappointed....As somebody below says, it sounds like an ad for aftershave...
Roma
silly point of view
Kandinsky and artists like him are sharing a POV of a very limited number of people.
Totally dislike his work.
Art museums and wealthy patrons are the only ones pushing this crap...using BIG WORDS/CONCEPTS to try to make it more than what it is...the artist’s form of personal therapy.
And if you don’t understand the SECRET (non-sensical) LANGUAGE you’re to be ignored.
Love the art; hate the film. So much to work with; such a waste.
How silly. This is like the Carson Clay film within Mr Bean's Holiday; pretentious crap. Can't blame Kandinsky- he was raised by an ant, if you believe the narration.
What a horrible film about one of the greatest artist of human history. I could only give this 5 minutes. Bye
Stopped watching at 3:34.
Hilma af Klint Wins
An insult to an artistic pioneer.
Reagards J.J Pokrak see on instagram #artmoscow
Easily the worst scripted art documentary I've ever seen . Horrendous.
Awful narrator. Unwatchable
Totally presumptuous ! Boooo
So is your thumbs up you gave yourself, ha ha ha !
