Jazz up a major scale with this idea. A nice way to add chromatic passing notes. Check out www.onlinesaxacademy.com/ for loads of sax lessons and resources,
This is helpful for someone working their roots in jazz, it is also worth noting for those same people that this specific excersize puts the scale in thirds, and when a new jazz imrpov player learns how to solo with triplets instead of sixteenths, it can be hard to break out of to play faster. Just wanted to add some input!
Dude thank you actually for this video. I’ve been playing sax for about 4 years now and I’ve been trying to dip my toes in jazz. Definitely gonna try this as soon as possible!

Hi Nata, yes this is something I’m thinking about. These videos are known as ‘RUclips shorts’ and RUclips like them to be around 30 seconds (max 1 minute). Check my longer form content on the channel for slower and more detailed explanations of concepts.
If you know what the notes are that make up each individual chord that will help you a lot to work out what overall key you may be in at a particular point in the song. But it often depends on the context and style of song (is it pop/jazz/blues ect) sorry there isn’t really a simple answer to this.

What excercises do you recommend so I can improve my tone?
This one I made recently is really great for improving your tone: ruclips.net/video/-cO0V4stclQ/видео.html
🌹🙏
I also play I’m in 6th grade
Great!
Yeah, in about four years.🤪
I feel like you explained the same thing twice? The second part of the video was about verbatim to the first. A little confused
I think that may be because the RUclips Short videos auto repeat, a bit like on instagram, so I think it just did that.
@@OnlineSaxAcademy how did I not notice that haha
You could make your videos running in a slower way, because we would help together, especially in the third execution of the pentatonic scale

What’s a ‘chromatic passing note’?
It’s a note that isn’t in the scale of the key your playing in, usually 1 semitone above or below
Can somebody explain to me why a g is different on a saxophone than a guitar
Sure, a lot of woodwind and brass instruments are transposed, for alto sax what we call G sounds like a concert Bb
@@OnlineSaxAcademy thanks I hate it
How can you tell what key your in with the cords showing
If you know what the notes are that make up each individual chord that will help you a lot to work out what overall key you may be in at a particular point in the song. But it often depends on the context and style of song (is it pop/jazz/blues ect) sorry there isn’t really a simple answer to this.
Why does your alto look so big lmao. Small man or giant sax?
Haha, I think it’s the lens on the camera that gives that effect.
Русские субтитры 👍🏽👌👍
Thanks!
Hi Paul. What's the descending chromatic pattern.. too fast! Also will this work on dorian minor scales equally as well?
It’s the same sets of 3 but in reverse
@@OnlineSaxAcademy thank you Paul. By the way your recent circle of fifths workout was fantastic. Still struggling but it's really good practice
Thanks Greg!

It makes me mad that your strap is twisted like that idk why
😂 you’re not alone!
U have pdf?
Not for this one, but the notes are listed in the description
You didn't transpose :(
That’s OK, the concept will work in any key
@onlinesaxacademy true but it fcks in my head when I hear a note that's described as another
