@@thedirtheadshed for some reason I can't direct comment to the video - but I agree with the OP here. Can't keep them all, but it's cool that you got to fix one
I love jeep truck things! A friend and his dad both built a fish houses from scratch out of aluminum. They used double thickness of plexiglass for the windows. Purged with argon from the welder and sealed the holes with silicone. I don’t think they had any issues with fogging and they made good, cheap insulated windows.
Greetings TDS, After you mod the bed of the JTT, I fell in love with that thing, specially after the AU. Not only that, it has a great history of it. Hopefully the next project is as interesting as JTT. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward for the next project.
It’s probably the best that rig has ever been. I’m sorry to see it go. You’ve set the bar pretty high for yourself. Can’t wait to see what’s next. Peace.
I use Lexan for all my plastic window needs. Won't shatter or crack. I learned this in the sign business. Replacing sign faces broken by vandalism. You can throw a rock at it and watch it bounce off
The jeep truck thing is cool, I enjoyed watching the build process & then watching you wheel it . Thanks for taking us along , looking forward to your next project 👍
I thought this was a cool project and a great callback to a rig a lot of us have seen online and in other videos. You can’t be expected to keep all of these projects, so it’s cool to see it go to a new owner who can have fun with it. 👍
Luv everything you do Dave. It's all RAD! But that was rough.. The Tube is a rough place to hang out! Don't make things what they aren't. Be yourself! This is why we follow you DUDE!!!
I found best thing to cut plexy , polycarbonate is with a router with a straight edge or for cutting curves a 1/2 inch MDF template and a nice sharp bit. Cuts it like butter 👍🏼
Great build and glad you fabricated it like you did. Added a bunch of personality. To be honest long term builds or short term for in-between the long build. It's a joy to watch what you do. Thank you and looking forward to the next !
Awesome build! The whole thing turned out fantastic! Selling it was a real plot twist….but I dig it. Build, wheel, sell, repeat. Great work! Oh…and multiple weekend videos was the bonus I didn’t even deserve. I know it’s a lot of work to do it, figured I’d let you know it was great and appreciated!
polycarbonate/lexan is less likely to crack, and is stronger. It is better optically when flexed, however it is softer and easier to scratch. acrylic/plexiglass is more likely to crack, but won't scratch as easily.
Please keep doing what you're doing, we are all blessed that you have this RUclips channel and sharing some badass videos. God bless and keep wheeling 🙏
you need to use 3m's twin tube into 1 stray plastic bonder it's literally used for automotive plastics and it dries up pretty fast where you can body work like bondo type fillers which you use some of evercoats lite weight filler over the top of if you want to make it look all smooth & clean so looks factory done but point being the 3m stuff I'd way better and it's black so it'll blend in the peices you were bonding together
I'm going to miss the Jeep Truck Thing but it looks like it going to a good home. I like watching the builds and the wheeling trips, your channel has a good mix that keeps it interesting, keep up the good content.
Ive found with self tappers, a small pilot hole like to did and use a regular drill not an impact. It seems not to break them as much. Love the build!!
I used to drive truck out to San Bernardino and Portland/Seattle and could never remember what the cool town was that you basically drove above. Wallace, ID. Amazing drive.
One of my favorite drives is heading north out of Wallace to Burke and it dumps you out in Thompson Falls, MT. There is some fun wheeling to be had out there.
Great episode Dave. I like the way you spread this one out. Buying a solid bones start then building something 'special', then using it for a while and passing it along is a great show plan. Keep on 'truckin.
Love the build and the ride across lookout and 4th of July. Ran that pass for 10 years in the big truck. Havent been back in about 4 years. Used to be my favorite part of the coast to coast ride. Even in the winter.
Why should anyone be mad that you sold it? It's a cool rig and I'd like to have seen more of it but I'm still waiting on the Mustang II to get finished and the low rider too. Time to get back in the garage!....lol
This was a really good build and awesome seeing you don't need "every new thing" to build a rad jeep-truck-thing in your shed. I've been loving the builds with the mini truck coming along as well. Keep it up mate
Keep buying them and sell ‘em. I can’t build an entire project all at once, but I like seeing the things you do because it gives me ideas of small projects I can do.
great build... really neat fab job to get the roof on... your buddy Andrew scored for sure... nice run down 90 and 15... retired truck driver, been there done that... never flew back home though, well, not when I was over the road.... Florida still feels rather flat even now, we use speed bumps to see farther ahead... just saying...
I really like that Jeep. I didn't know it was something your were going to sell or I would have made an offer too. Great series. Thanks for showing it off. Pat
Use Polycarbonate, it's used for plastic windows on racecars as makrolon (brand name) and go for something around 1/4 inch, we use metric 4-6mm thick material. Great aluminum work. I think they messed up this part when they built it. It might look cool but it was dumb not to build it to seal doors and have a rear window.
@@thedirtheadshedyeah sure it's show stuff, glad it's yours now and being completed and put to good use. Should watch to the end before I comment... Well I really liked the work you did and sure in for another project. Take your time and finish the bagged mini truck and give maz grande some love and all the other stuff 😂 but maybe you need a 4 door jk to go camping 💪
I was hoping to see more of this one! The work you did was killer! I remember you were looking for a CJ, get the one Fred's selling and shorten it back up.
Dave, you need something like this. It is a shippable toolbox. I have worked and traveled my whole life, and I have shipped toolboxes like this all over the planet, or checked them on a plane. Get the correct FAA qualified locks. This way you have a specialized “crash kit” you can grab and tale anywhere. Then when you’re done, you run by a FedEx and ship it home, or ship it to a Fedex location HOLD FOR PICKUP (not a Walmart that is a pickup location.) Then you run by that Fedex location, pick up your toolbox/luggage and yoi are on yoir way.
haha I can't believe you sold it!! Would have been fun to see you do some more adventures but I get it. Great job man, looked like a lot of hard work. I drove from portland to cda on Monday and there was no snow, just some fog and rain. Wasn't bad.
Plexiglass is a type of acrylic, both you have to he careful how you work with it and will crack easily, but they make good clear windows. Lexan is polycarbonate, which is a durable material and very difficult to crack. You can cut polycarbonate however you please, metal shear, circular saw, hatchet, whatever, it wont crack. Downside it is scratches fairly easily.
Totally fine with selling it. I hated the way MT neglected their project vehicles in outdoor storage after the show featuring them was complete. Better to get them running and in the hands of people who will use them.
I think you ought to put some decorative drapes in the rear window and make it look like grandmas double wide and you can change them for the season LOL this truck gets more awesome every time I watch. Sad to see it go
You make cool vehicles. If buying, building, and selling them quickly gets more out there with your touch, the world will be a better place. That being said, we want to see a few more of your personal fleet get some love too. Maybe one for you, one for sale, and repeat?
I hate seeing it go, but glad it’s going to someone you know. It was fun to watch along with your Jeep truck thing upgrades. I can’t wait to see what comes along next.
Congrats on the build. You did a good job with it. I liked everything about it except the double front when it was built. I've enjoyed seeing what you do with your rigs. Keep up the good work. What's next?
No way, I thought I saw the jeep on our way to/from Salt Lake, might have been on way to Boise. We were basically traveling from CA to Boise in the reverse direction. The doors threw me. When you said the I15 and rest of the route, I was like yup that was it. Cool.
Cool watching both, i enjoyed this build start to finish, its ok to run through the work if you already showed us what you were doing. But I also enjoyed the detailed video on the Mustang II top. Unfortunately you can't keep them all!
We use a self etching primer for all our aluminum parts that really adheres well. Use to use acid etch and alodine but newer products have come out that are way less messy.
Looks great man! I like in depth coverage. I even like real long posts, but i know a lot of other people do not have attention spans, so do what you feel is best and I'll do my best to go along for the ride. I wish i could run some ideas past you (or someone with the experience and a functional brain) but thats not what your job is. Ha ha Always a treat to see a new post. Thanks! 🤙
Great job Dave. I really enjoyed the whole voyage. From start to finish. Also, I've never seen anybody with that many toolboxes. You must have one of every tool made. 🤣
Really like the series. Hate to see that one leave you. Turned out so cool. Much better than the original version of it.
It was a fun one. Glad I had my part in it’s history

I was blown away with the reveal how good the aluminum worked. I liked this build and like the current mix of projects.
"Yo, Fribaby, you got them orange doors somewhere?"
You're kind of a genius bro! Thing is legit 👌

Router seems to be the tool to use for all kinds of fun projects
Loved watching the series. I like your style. Keep up the good work! You are making me want to start another project!!!
Keep on keeping on my friend.
Thanks! So many projects out there right now
I liked this series, and love the outcome. I also like the mini trucks! I also would like to see a simpler build like the trooper!😊
Hell yeah. Love that diagonal fold for straight to curve transitions technique.
Take your time with it and it can be a smooth transition
Maverik is the best! Adventure's 1st stop. My family makes fun of me for how excited I get when we travel to the West and hit a Maverik station!
Haha. I totally get it
Great job on the rig, finished up so nice
Thanks. I was totally pleased with it

In my travels, I found Maverick to be one of my favorite gas station stops. And I agree with you, their breakfast burritos are great.
That was a great build series! The fab on the bed and top was awesome. Thanks, Dave.
polycarbonate/lexan is less likely to crack, and is stronger. It is better optically when flexed, however it is softer and easier to scratch. acrylic/plexiglass is more likely to crack, but won't scratch as easily.

I used what was on the shelf at the farm store down the way. It worked out
Can believe those doors fit so well. Great job finding and installing those, roof too of course.
Man I wanted to see that thing snow-wheeled!
You did a great job saving that Jeep!
Thanks. I really want to take butter jeep snow wheeling with a v8
I definitely gonna miss the jeep truck thing but that's how you can bring new projects to the channel
Dave, both the long builds, and the short builds are good. Also the wheeling with friends videos are great, keep it up!

Keeping them rolling. But I agree, this one went away a little sooner than expected
The Jeep looks great. Another great video 👍👍
Great job! I like the Clampy winterized kit with the moving blankets.

So cool you found a needy new owner. Cheers from near Aspen. Happy holidays.

I liked that jeep build. And the trips related to it. Keep up the good work
I think I would have scored a groove on the back side of that aluminum with a death wheel to get a little bit sharper and easier cut
👍

Keep bringing the builds!!
