You shook me was truly the first "real" rock song I had ever heard in 1980 as an 11 year old boy. At that moment I was hooked forever. It is the definition of rock and give us kids of the 80's and beyond, proof that most bands of today lack the talent, drive and longevity of these fine musicians.
I saw AC/DC perform live at our local high school hall in Melbourne in 1976. It was just before they went to the UK. They had previously pulled out of scheduled gigs at the school but made a point of coming over before they left the country.
AC/DC is one of the greatest Rock Bands of all time. I remember sitting in the theater with my son when IM2 came out, and getting all excited as Shoot To Thrill started playing, and having that moment where I'm listening to a song I've listened to hundreds of times, and just feeling this adrenaline rush. Explaining to my son after the movie was over who AC/DC was and introducing him to the band. Then going and seeing other MCU movies and seeing that trend continue where AC/DC songs are played. It's good to see that they're being sort of reintroduced to the younger generations who most likely would have never even heard this band's music, now becoming finding themselves listening to these great songs, because of the superheroes they see on the big screen.
My favorite band. Rode on a plane with them in 1986 on my way back to San Diego from Las Vegas for my 21st birthday. Didn't realize it until we were close to landing and I noticed Cliff Williams sitting two seats in front of me! Once off the plane I was the only person that recognized them in the airport and got autographs on a magazine. Had tickets to their concert that night at the Sports Arena. 🎸💥
lol during their reign, with the exception of their debut album, all of Led Zeppelin's albums reached # 1 on the charts. Led Zeppelin 4 went #1 in the UK, but #2 in the US.
Number 1 hits no, number 1 albums? There were 7. Please, do your research. Even Black Sabbath dominated the charts at more than one point in their career.
@@aiden_macleod I never said albums I was talking about singles, as in the video saying acdc didn't have a number 1 single neither did led zep, albums yes I know that.

you shook me all nite long. totally agree. i was just a little kid but a few yrs later when i matured that song and groove left a permenant mark! anthem!!
For me? Back in Black is one of the most crucial and iconic rock albums of all time. I am a big AC/DC fan, grew up listening to those guys. They have been in my life through thick and thin. I highly suggest to anyone getting into rock music today, definitely look them up on here or iTunes or in a record or a CD store. I have them on all.Or even a cassette tape. Or 8 track.
AC/DC has always been a popular band. They have huge concerts and many of their albums have done really well. They do all of this in spite of a number 1 single. That said, their latest single from their new 2020 release, "PWR UP," a song called "Shot in the Dark" is doing pretty well right now. In fact, their new album is one of their best. But I digress. "You Shook Me All Night Long" was, is and will always be one of their best songs. Great riff and hook. This song and this album is what inspired me to sing rock music.
When Malcolm passed away, I thought of something about him that is truly amazing. It's possible that his riffs that he came up with in his bedroom, or on the tour bus, or wherever he wrote, have been heard by more humans than any other musician. Think about it...there's more people alive than any other time in history. Riffs from Back in Black and other albums are played on the radio, by fans, in sports arenas, etc. AC/DC is inescapable. I of course lack numbers to back all this up, but I like to think it's the case.
I'd wager AC/DC songs have been played on a guitar more than any other band too. Whether you tried to play guitar and gave up or you are a gigging musician. The amount of songs they could do with 5 different chords is staggering and that ain't a knock on the band. They're actually my favorite rock band. They're easy and memorable enough for anyone to attempt it but to nail all the nuances in their playing is not a small feat. I can't count how many times I've heard their shit played wrong. Malcolm is the greatest rhythm player in rock history imo. Just listen to his playing kick in in a song like Thunderstruck. Angus's part is the most recognizable but Malcolms part drives that song along like so many others. And its clean precise playing too.
you can't go to a sports arena and not hear thunderstruck, even people who have no clue who acdc is know the song. There was something special in that Australian water
I loved Bon so much that when Back in Black came out I bought it, listened to it then smashed it on the road, of course love them now, but Brian still seems like the new guy!
When someone would mention an AC/DC song they liked, it was common for the response to be “Is it Bon Stott, or Brian Johnston trying to sound like Bon Scott?
ACDC for the win, fond memories of cranking my brothers TNT album on vinyl as a kid in the early 80's! My sons first concert was ACDC when he was 10, their last tour of Australia
In my mind, acdc will always be #1. Pretty much all of their songs should have been in the top 10 in the world, not just in the states. Long live acdc, because we want to 🎸
I lived for a short time in Milnsbridge Huddersfield UK, where the video was shot. It was my introduction to AC-DC back in the very early 80's. They have been my favourite band since back then. You shook me all night long is my all time favourite song.
Acdc are always number one to me number one band always fab band fab fans fab people fab songs nothing else I can say about them legends forever much love and respect to them
I went to a memorial for a co-worker’s husband, died way too young from brain cancer. Many friends stepped up to speak, and lastly his wife gave the final eulogy. She ended with saying, “And now, here is Will’s favorite song.” And blasting through the speakers came “You Shook Me All Night Long.” My co-worker stepped off the dais, closed her eyes, and started dancing - just rocking out by herself. I thought it was the most glorious and magnificent way to grieve I’d ever seen.
Bon is my favorite singer, and it's pretty obvious that most of the lyrics from Back In Black are Bon's (their lyrics went downhill fast after BiB), but Brian Johnson sang the HELL out of that record. He really knocked it out of the park. I am not sure that any singer, Bon included, could have sung it any better. Brian's voice was never quite the same afterwards, but he gave it for a good cause: THE definitive Hard Rock N Roll album.
Read Bon: The Last Highway by Jesse Fink. He gets into this a bit. On the one hand, the lyrics on BiB, especially You Shook Me sounds like Bon's style, & things he said to a girlfriend sound similar to lines in You Shook Me. Also, allegedly Bon's family gets royalties for BiB even though his name is not in the credits. Guilty conscious for using his stuff & passing it off as Brian's to not overshadow his debut? Or charity for a family that just lost a loved one? But on the other hand, even though Bon would write ideas down in notebooks all the time, he would really finish lyrics as the band was in the studio so it'd be weird if all of a sudden he had finished lyrics for their next album in advance. Of course Angus or Brian will never admit it if it's true because it doesn't fit the narrative they've had for 40 years.
Hay Professer, I am and always be HUGE AC/DC Megga fan, I saw them at least 17 times, In fact they were the first Concert I ever saw, I even dressed up like Angus Young every time They came to town, I even rented a limo with frinds one time,People thought I was Angus, Fun times man, AC/DC ROCKS FOREVER!!!!!!!
If B.I.B. was the 2nd best selling album of all time, how the hell is Rock-n-roll ain’t noise pollution underrated? Use yer f$&kin head. Stupid comment.
Comments can’t be stupid, only people...like you for example. A song on a great album can be underrated. Rolling Stone has a list of AC/DC too 25 songs, Ain’t Noise Pollution isn’t on it, six other songs like Sink the Pink and Who Made who are on it and I don’t think are nearly as good.
Bud Fox Now I know how much of an idiot you are if you listen to Rolling Stone magazine. The worst music magazine in history. When I was 13 and B.I.B. came out, the album was so huge no song on it was underrated. Only millennials would say something so stupid.
It's insane just how many tracks on this album are so amazing.. if you are even only a casual fan of rock music, you would have no problem listening to this album front to back, without wanting to skip any songs.. such an iconic album!!
This video makes me cry...Bon was the best rock singer ever...I have been a professional musician for 30 yrs and have covered AC/DC a lot...great band...rip...
Back in Black was my first tape growing up. I'll never forget my mom asking me if I understood what he was singing! Bon Scott ringing those Hell's Bells for generations after his death while Brian belted out the lyrics for those same kids. Huh, the 80s weren't as bad as I thought after all...
74 Jailbreak EP. Jailbreak of course most people now know from the live shows, and Brian has a ball with that. And Angus gets to do a solo and play with the crowd. But Soul Stripper and You Ain't Got A Hold On Me are fantastic songs as well. And Showbusiness is Bon at his delicious best.
Tone. I didn’t know Stevie Wright had some very big hits as a solo artist in Oz after he left the band, and he was sort of a cult music euro in the United States
@@DotsKangaroo Black eyed bruiser and also Guitar band are awesome as well. I am lucky to get to play with the drummer (Tony Currenti) that recorded Black Eyed Bruiser and he also recorded the first AC/DC album. He's still got it. ;)
"Hey momma look at me" I'm on my way!!! Sometime in 200 years from now..somebody going to be headed to Mars to eat thanksgiving dinner with grandma.. AC DC fan cranking it up in rocket...rock on!!!
Amen to that. Saw them in the last concert in Giants stadium in nj. The crowd ran the gamut from 6 year olds to seniors. That band touched every generation and I believe it will impact future generations. We Salute You!
I remember watching an evangelist show that “exposed” backward masking on usually heavy metal records. I laughed at it because I couldn’t figure out what the singer sang forward, let alone what it said backwards! Great show about the very fun AC/DC!
@Tone. I got dragged to one Evangelicals house as an "intervention" once. Somehow they had found a video that went over why The Cure was evil. Because they had a song called "The Blood", which has a line "I am paralyzed by the blood of Christ". I sat back and said.. that makes no sense, that song was referring to a bottle of wine named "tears of christ". Idiots.
I remember when You shook me all night long was released, and even 40 years on it still sounds great, the second you hear those opening chords from Angus you just have to TURN IT UP TO 11
I seen AC/DC on the back in black tour here in Lakeland Florida the entire concert was flawless, and back then albums real records was the way to listen to what you wanted to when nothing was on the radio.
I saw ACDC live at the OMNI in Atlanta for the For Those About to Rock tour. They opened the show with a giant brass bell lowered from the ceilings, and the "BONG" sounds to begin the opening number, Hell's Bells was Angus beating on the giant bell with his Guitar! I was sitting 8 rows back, center stage on the floor in the chairs, and absolutely mesmerized (ʘ_ʘ) . About 2/3rds the way through the show, Angus has his shirt off. He gets on Brian and Malcolm's shoulders, and they carry him through the crowd on the floor while Angus wails out this amazing guitar solo like there will be NO tomorrow, and he will effect its destruction! There was total respect; no one from the crowd got in the way or tried to touch them or anything. Whoever thought of doing that was a genius and I can't express how appreciated it was by all. It was a perfect rock and roll moment.
I also saw them at the omni for Razor's edge tour. I remember the line for the rest rooms was long from all the drinking and people were just urinating on the floor in the hallways.
God! That must have been amazing! I'll bet I was in Atlanta at the time and didn't even know about it. Willie Nelson at the Omni was all I heard about!
Saw them in concert late 80s before I moved away from my home. In retrospect it was sort of a send off for me, where everything in my life was about to change but I did understand to what degree. Adulthood arrived. God I miss those days.
AC/DC is my all time favorite band. I’m on the younger side. I became aware of their music during their hiatus between Stiff Upped Lip and Black Ice. I was in high school when the latter was released. Even though Bon is one of my favorite lead singers of all time, Brian really resonated with me. Since I have a knack for vocal impressions I’ve been able to mimic Brian with my own singing. You Should Me All Night Long is a great song, but my favorites to sing are Back in Black, Thunderstruck, and Hells Bells.
That is great to hear Jason. That is the testament of the band and inspiring that you young blokes are picking up the torch to carry on the rock n roll train, it is what this world can never have a touch too much of.
I bought AC/DC Back in Black Aug. 1980 on 8 track! I put this tape in my car craig 8 track through Altec Lansing 2 way 6 x 9 speakers. I didnt take it out until November and im not exaggerating! Couldnt stop listening to it. That car stereo was installed in a 76 Chevy Impala and it sounded glorious! Greatest rock n roll album of all time!!!!
Agree. I will go a step further and suggest the song Back in Black is the quintessential rock song of all time. It has everything a great rock song needs: highly distinguished and recognizable riff, killer high pitched vocals, super slick solo and about 4 minutes long.
Considering the fact that Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is the most selling album and had so many top ten singles and “Back in Black” being the second most selling album and not have a single top ten song is pure amazing. I don’t think there is a single album in the top ten most selling albums that didn’t have a single top ten song. And to think that if you took all the songs that made it to the top ten during those two weeks, the albums that they came from didn’t sale 50 million copies combined. How does that even happen? How is that even possible?
The record companies decide what music they want played on radio. Pop music gets its sales boosted most by airtime. Rock music is played far less but sells despite that because the fans are much more loyal to the bands and much more "active" looking for new releases by their favorite bands. Not to say that "true" MJ fans dit not do the same, but the majority are casual listeners that bought Thriller because they heard some great songs on the radio en decided to buy the album. The majority of ACDC fans knew when the next album was coming way before it was on sale and bougt it as soon as they could!
Randallkoller yes. But considering the fact that AC/DC also got much less air play than any of the others on the top ten is still an amazing feast. Can’t argue with that.
@@WWTormentor when's the last time you heard, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd or many many others with insane album sales on the radio or in the charts? Wanna know why? Because they don't matter!
It was Malcolm Young who fought with their record labels, who were pushing for a single hit for radio. Mal said from their beginning that they were not a singles band. They stuck to their guns and never wavered. Just one example of what made this band epic.
After all these years I’m still rocking out to AC/DC back in black. In the summer months I have a awesome stereo out in my garage powered by a 400watt adcove amp with the garage door open to piss everyone off. Rock On. If you listen closely you just might hear me rocking out.

I'm still annoyed that they never used War Machine off of Black Ice when they literally have a character named War Machine lol
Eine der größten Rockbands weltweit. Hab mehrere Konzerte besucht und es war immer ein super Erlebnis!
AC/DC one of the best rock groups off all time
no, AC/DC IS the best rock group off all time. You are not precise...
@@steffenjonda8283 For me ... is the best one !!!
Look how big Led Zeppelin were and how influential they were, did they have any number 1 singles, no, did it matter, again no.
....For years “Stairway to Heaven” always came in number one on top 100 count downs of all time....
lol during their reign, with the exception of their debut album, all of Led Zeppelin's albums reached # 1 on the charts.
@@alexjohnston8889 Once the record label starting printing singles of one of their albums and was selling well, then the manager got wind of it and shut the printing down. They didn't want to sell singles it was all about the album sales and concerts.
you shook me all nite long. totally agree. i was just a little kid but a few yrs later when i matured that song and groove left a permenant mark! anthem!!
Or 8 track.
Love ACDC. This song is no. 2 for me after Back in Black. I was hooked the moment i first heard this back in high school.
Rock and roll ain't noise pollution AC/DC will never die best band of all time in my opinion.......
The numbers do back you up though. Back In Black is the single best selling Rock n Roll LP of all time
I'd wager AC/DC songs have been played on a guitar more than any other band too.
He died "young" too. 64. Wow. Way too youthful for dementia. So sad. Greatest rhythm guitarist ever.
I'm 58. Loved AC DC since I was 16. I'd bet my 401k you're right on the money!
I Agree! Their whole body of work....they ARE Rock n Roll
You shook me all night Long was an anthem I roller skated to it I absolutely love the amazing lead and solo on that record
Loving your Aussie binge, INXS & now AC/DC.
Australia says 👍
Thank you! I appreciate the support my friend.
When you finish ACDC the next band is The Angels or Angel City as they were known in the States.
...rose tattoo...the angels...
Rose tat and black eyed bruiser
I think Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Incredible songwriter, with a ridiculous number of great albums.
That was first song I heard of AC/DC. I stayed over at a school friend house and he played it. I was hooked
Bon's double entendre's are what initially got me into AC/DC... Between Bon and Angus, I couldn't get away from their music.
Go to any dance , wedding etc, and dance floor is fullest when this song is played!!
Malcolm wrote most of the songs.
You mean the lyrics of the song or the album?
Bon most likely wrote the lyrics
Bon wrote no lyrics for B.I.B. Confirmed by Angus. Give it a rest people.
Ride on should be more well known than it is
You're dead right there. Bon's vocals and THAT guitar solo...!
Yep I agree
Absolutely nothing compares to coming home from the bars a putting on a little Back in Black!
Rock n roll ain’t noise pollution is way underrated, one of my favorite AC/DC songs.
If B.I.B. was the 2nd best selling album of all time, how the hell is Rock-n-roll ain’t noise pollution underrated?
Only millennials would say something so stupid.
the lyrics to that song have to be 100% bon scott. He should have gotten credit on the record
Thanx to that restaurant commercial, every time I hear RnR ain't noise pollution,I wanna order a medium rare steak!!!!
It's insane just how many tracks on this album are so amazing.. if you are even only a casual fan of rock music, you would have no problem listening to this album front to back, without wanting to skip any songs.. such an iconic album!!
It’s hard to believe that they didn’t own the charts but it’s absolutely believable that they have the 2nd most sold album. Pure legends🔥
Came here for Soul Stripper.
Their cover of Baby Please Don't Go is also pretty epic.
AC/DC was my first rock show. What a way to start...
POR, We Salute You. Ty for sharing your personal stories about your parents. That was priceless. ❤️
Greatest Rock band and GREATEST Album ever! 🤘
Professor, George Young and Harry Vanda were in the Australian group the Easybeats which had a big American hit, “Friday on my mind.”
Tone. I didn’t know Stevie Wright had some very big hits as a solo artist in Oz after he left the band, and he was sort of a cult music euro in the United States
@@michaelrochester48 Stevie had a monster of a hit, Evie Parts 1 2 and 3. Consistently voted as one of the best Aussie songs ever. Its a beauty.
@@DotsKangaroo Black eyed bruiser and also Guitar band are awesome as well. I am lucky to get to play with the drummer (Tony Currenti) that recorded Black Eyed Bruiser and he also recorded the first AC/DC album. He's still got it. ;)
@@Mrmikey0909 I have black eyed bruiser too

I think AC/DC is the best band that's ever been. Even their bad songs are still pretty good. And all their songs Rock.
"Hey momma look at me" I'm on my way!!! Sometime in 200 years from now..somebody going to be headed to Mars to eat thanksgiving dinner with grandma.. AC DC fan cranking it up in rocket...rock on!!!
I saw them in 1991 in the Tacoma Dome, Tacoma, Washington. During Desert Storm. Incredible show!
Understandable. It's hard to be #1 when you're a niche genre competing with pop. But time revealed how truly great they were/are.
You mean they DON'T sing, "Eeeaaahhhh ezay. Ooo ay tee. Come round e bada yeah"? I'm floored!!
Idiots.
"You shook me all night long" is so great, it's rock to the core
Rock and Roll personified
Angus and Brian are legends
I agree, ACDC is the ultimate rockandroll band of all time!!!
I remember when You shook me all night long was released, and even 40 years on it still sounds great, the second you hear those opening chords from Angus you just have to TURN IT UP TO 11
Turn it up to 100
I seen AC/DC on the back in black tour here in Lakeland Florida the entire concert was flawless, and back then albums real records was the way to listen to what you wanted to when nothing was on the radio.
They did the same thing when I saw them on the Razor's Edge tour.
I also saw them at the omni for Razor's edge tour. I remember the line for the rest rooms was long from all the drinking and people were just urinating on the floor in the hallways.
That was started in the Bon era.
God! That must have been amazing! I'll bet I was in Atlanta at the time and didn't even know about it. Willie Nelson at the Omni was all I heard about!
Great story
Good choice! AC DC and Led Zeppelin are probably the best two rock bands from the 70's. Both insanely influential to the hard rock and metal scene.
Back In Black is, in my opinion, the quintessential #1 rock album of all time. It’s the bridge between the evolution from the 50’s into the 80’s.
Agree. I will go a step further and suggest the song Back in Black is the quintessential rock song of all time. It has everything a great rock song needs: highly distinguished and recognizable riff, killer high pitched vocals, super slick solo and about 4 minutes long.
Could not agree more. What a band what an album.
The best and biggest selling albums rarely get singles released at all..
