I saw Jon Anderson singing with a youth choir in State College, Pa, a few years ago and he was fine. The youngsters were having the time of their life living out on a small scale the rock star dream. Jon was touring with young musical talent and showing them the ropes. It was a fun night and all on stage including Jon were great.
I see posts from a majority of people who don’t go to shows who are passing options on like flatulence after a few gassy hotdogs with beans and onions. Steven Tyler blew his voice out from probably not taking care of it properly over the decades. He is great but you still got to protect the pipes. I saw Randy Bachman of BTO and Guess WHo and he was in great shape vocally. Mick Jagger at 81 races around the stage which, again, people who don’t go to shows pass opinions out their backside without actually seeing shows. How do I know? I actually got off my butt and went to see Randy Bachman and The Rolling Stones this past year! Experience is a great teacher!
*Have always loved Jon Anderson's enduring & distinctive falsetto thruout his tenure with Yes and collabs with Vangelis, not to mention his solo career 🤟🥰
Indeed, IMHO Jon and Chris were Yes. I first saw yes for Tales tour and seen them countless times all the way through the 90’s. His work with Vangelis is some of my favorite, he’s done a few solo bangers, never tires of trying new things. So happy to see him reenergized with a new band and creating nearly 60 years on.❤
It's refreshing to see a band exit the stage gracefully. I respect and applaud Aerosmith for this classy move. Like everybody else, I've loved their music for almost half a century. Way to go out Aerosmith! 😊👍🏻☮️🎸🎶🎵🎸
I first saw them in concert in 1974, since then I have seen them again and again and they always rocked the house and made me feel like I got more than my money worth. thanks for the memories and the music.
The problem with your assessment is that you have not been to a show and your opinion is one based on ignorance which is fine but your really should be upfront and say I’ve not been to a show but know all about it.
@@tod3msn what does the consistency of a show, which you are insinuating that I need to make my assessment, have to do with the number of times a band has retired over the years?
Now about Jon Anderson what a great vocals and of course with the band YES, I did get to see them live 3 times in the 70's and every concert had a a different show and they played over 2 hours kicking ass!
I love early Aerosmith but wasn't a fan of their later albums but they have earned respect no matter what. Soon the only rock band touring will be Motely Crue on their 4th Farewell Tour. 😃 P.S. Jon Anderson is still sounding great as you said, and he is one of my all time favorite singers.
While I was aware of the group Yes, I didn't discover Jon Anderson until I heard him do vocals on the Kitaro album Dream. That voice was so amazing, I had to do a deep dive, and have been a fan of his music ever since.
Anderson's firing seems to mirror that of Deyoung of Styx. Once a health issue opportunity popped up for each of the bands, out goes Anderson and Deyoung and in comes Gowan and Davison for clone replacements

I was blessed to see Jon and the Geeks on the 21st. It was great to see and hear him. They did a wonderful job with the classic YES music and I really like the new tunes. They have the flavor of mid 70s, and 80s Yes. Jon did a great job but you can hear he has shaved an octive off certain passages, but he can still hold it together and has not lost the vocal feelings nor inflections he brings to YES music. I have not been a fan of the last several YES albums and sad to say, I think Andersons new work with the Geeks will out shine the current Yes lineup. Steve, you need to rethink some things! Yes I think if the money is right, Aerosmith will do a tribute tour. The money will attract them, or they'll sell their body of work like Queen did and continue to relax along with Steven. Bottom line, we have wonderful bodies of work to enjoy until we too move onto that higher plane.✌
Back in the 90's when I was taking guitar lessons my instructor had another student who met Steven Tyler, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer in a restaurant. The other student was with his parents. They approached Steven and the boys to ask for autographs when they thought it was a good time to do that. The student told my instructor that they were so cool and just as nice as they could be. Steven, Brad, Tom and Joey all went out to the parking lot with the student and his family and had some pictures taken with them. He let our instructor borrow one of the pictures to show the other students. My older brother had the Toys in the Attic album way back in the 70's. I hate to see a great classic live band like Aerosmith hang it up but I admire and respect them for this decision. Thanks Michael. Great video!!
I must say, For me they are they the Greatest American Rock Band ever! I'm 66 almost 67 now and I have loved them from the beginning so many great songs and albums! Thanks Aerosmith for being in my life for over 50 years!
I agree with Jon Anderson sounding as good as he does. I'll put Steve Miller and Joe Elliot up in that column. Having seen them 3 weeks ago, they sounded good with their respective bands, and despite how Joe sounds, he still has a great voice, and Steve is almost 81. 81, and still singing! What a rockstar!

One of the greatest American musical exports (well until 1986 in my opinion). Shall cherish the memories of seeing them here in the U.K and, as you say, we still have the music and DVDs. Hope they don't think of a return but the way the music industry is working these days i am convinced that 'a form' of Aerosmith may well continue. Apparently there are rumours that Black Sabbath maybe thinking of a one-off concert. Hope that doesn't happen as surely with Ozzy's and Bill Wards health issues it is very unlikely that this will enhance the band's reputation.

Huge respect to Aerosmith, thanks for the ride! I love Jon, and although it’s been 10 years since I saw his solo acoustic guitar tour, he was in fine voice after his medical scare. We were lucky enough to have front row seats next to his lovely wife Jane. His work with the Band Geeks has been impressive live, I look forward to the album. I’ll reserve judgement on an Aerosmith return.
Grew up in Boston and saw them many times back in the 70s including their first concert at the old Boston Garden venue where there was unreserved seating with a first come first, first to get a seat where I stood in a wall to wall crowd on the floor of the venue rocking to the band. The Bad Boys of Boston along with The J Geils Band were always fan favorites in the Boston music scene back in the day...
A great American band. But I am feeling sadness, stories like this remind me that all of my musical faves are aging out and dying off. Depressing. Happy Jon Anderson is still rocking out! Cheers 😊🙏😎👍🎸🍻⚡️❤️
I think Aerosmith will go out with Dignity. As a band of brothers, loved that statement. What we will see is new releases of existing songs, box sets and possibly some unreleased studio as well as live recordings. All of which I'm good with. Thanks for the memories Aerosmith!
Hey Michael! I saw Aerosmith live at Boston Garden, their hometown, on New Year's Eve in the 1990's....with all their families and friends present. Wild time! It was a great thrill to ring in the New Year with Aerosmith. Best wishes. E
@@thejoyofthemusicinmylife7897Rock is dead and mercifully so isn’t Britney Spears and Katy Perry. Those aging Jezebels are now 40 someodd and pop is a young person’s music
I feel that Aerosmith will release another album of original material. Steve can still sing - not for a full tour but in a studio environment without digital help.
Great video! We had tickets for Neil Young's September 29th show at the Hollywood Bowl, which was also canceled due to the band members becoming ill. "Hey hey, my my. Rock and Roll can never die."
I am old enough to have seen Aerosmith in 1976 when I was a kid in High School. I think that Aerosmith "Rocks" album is the best pure rock album ever made.
Well... I have a ton of respect for Aerosmith and I agree with their descion because if Tyler isn't 100 percent the concert wouldn't be a professional concert. I saw them live back in 2015 and I am forever blessed that I got to experience them live. And I have been listening to the band since I was six. They have grown with me and their legacy continues on through their music. Also, Just Push Play is an underrated album!
I wish Howe would lighten up and work with Jon. I would respect Aeroesmtih’s decision, but like you, Michael, I would take their “farewell” announcement with a grain of salt.
What is also impressive is the Aerosmith managed to keep all 5 original band members for 55 years. I know the drummer should have an * beside his name for some recent issues, but all and all no rock band or for that matter and band as far as I know, as kept all original members for so long. U2 is the next closest I can think of 1976 and still going, again with the drummer. *. lol
Surely the marketing team is on it and looking to cash in one way or another. I know several people who think Adam Lambert fronting Queen was awesome. I couldn't entertain that! I'm old school and about the original line up that made me a fan. All the best to you Michael!
Hey micheal this is one of the true rockers who do it right live it’s them not tapes or ai , I always thought Steven Tyler’s voice was amazing it still could do what he wanted it to do even better than just starting out it got better & better there’s not a lot of people who can sing like him I’m sad the screaming Demon is going out this way . Even when they weren’t there best it still was better than most bands live I will just push play , & let your music do the talking !!’
Good for them making the decision to stop touring. As we all get older, our body's cant take it anymore. Aerosmith happened after my time in LA, so I really didn't get into them.
All of my musical heroes aren't in their prime anymore, and it's sad to see the deterioration. Who quit, who retired, who died, who's sick, who's not getting along with other band members, etc. I feel so awful for Steven, because I'm sure this isn't how he planned to bow out from such a successful career. It'll be a sad day indeed when the book finally closes on all the classic rock bands of yesteryear, and the last of them finally shuffles off this mortal coil. You see what's coming up through the ranks, and you realize they can't hold a candle to the bands that came before them. What new bands out there can write and perform songs with the same attitude and intensity as Aerosmith, AC/DC, Yes, Van Halen, etc.? You've got a snowball's chance in hell of that happening!
Im glad Areosmith has retired and its a shame but its honorable... And yeah Jon Anderson is amazing, i saw some live footage of the Band Geeks and they sound fantastic live... They are more Yes than Yes atm if you ask me haha...
@@MIB_63 Three of the full songs I heard on the CD are phenomenal (Piper’s Call, Between Two Points and Yes I Have Ghosts) and Black Cat is a great introduction to the album and what I have heard of the title cut and the closing track on the LP is great.
Another great video Michael! And thank you very much for the heads up on the new Jon Anderson songs. They both are really good. Can't wait to hear the album. Do you know when it's coming out?
I tend to believe it. They were not very active in the last few years anyway. I would not go to see them without Steven Tyler. I could see Joe Perry forming a new band or continuing The Hollywood Vampires. I would go to see that.
Saw them many times! Always a good time! Always! Dang i hate it for Steven “the demon of screamin”. Maybe it will heal eventually and he can do what he loves. The rest will make music when they want. There are some good things about retirement. Steven may turn his time into writing some new stuff who knows? Good luck to them and I thank them for the memories ❤
EXACTLY!!! I let Michael know that with my comment as well but he hasn't read it yet I guess. He should give Richie a shoutout, the guy is an amazing underrated rock star.
I applaud Aerosmith, this is the way to go out. They didn't put Steven out there with poor vocals or lip sync to a recorded track, bow out call it a day keep your legacy intact!
Rush went out the best way with no announcement but a this could be our last time touring and a year later Neil Peart got brain cancer and passed a few years later. Pink Floyd also retired in a similar fashion. David Gilmour had started a new family with wife Polly Samson and went on to have four children with her and in 2001 closed the door on any Pink Floyd tours or albums while promoting Echoes The Best of Pink Floyd on the BBC. In 2006 reiterated the band was finished and wanted to focus on family and his solo work. In 2008, Rick Wright’s passing officially ended the band. The Endless River was finished to honor Rick and the one off charity single was done to honor the people of Ukraine.
Michael snubbed Richie by not mentioning his name or the fact that he is also in BOC. Richie is one of the most amazing and underrated rock stars, he deserves recognition but rarely gets any.
Aerosmith has the goo sense to retire before they be come tiring, unlike others..... How ever, I must differ with the notion that "Rock is dead". There are some bright spots, bands such as The Warning out of Mexico or Love Bites or Asterism, both out of Japan, or The Sixters out of Ukraine who not only show a mastery of their art at young ages but sound just as good live as in the studio, no, my friend there are still keeping the torch lit.
@@edwardmclaughlin719 yeah, at some point I grew up and realized that old guys jumping around in strange clothes just really wasn't that cool anymore. Imagine that.
Noooo There is hopefully just 1 Aerosmith The Legends The Originals Now if there would ever be just a 1 off tribute concert in Boston of Aerosmith with all their peers I could go for that but that would be/should be it Aerosmith has been a HUGE part of my 61 years of existence I have seen them them 5 times & have every album they have ever recorded A part of me has died with their retirement
I went to see Aerosmith in the late 70's in Virginia. Me and a couple friends went. They were an hour late after the opening act. The crowd was getting ugly and antsy. Then they came strolling out with the roadies holding flashlights to get them to their marks. And the drum kit got knocked over, Perry just fell on the floor laughing hysterically, they were wasted. So it was 20 more minutes before they came out again for a second try. They started, completely out of tune, Tyler could hardly stand up, he was in a different universe than the band. We left almost immediately because the audience was throwing things and screaming. The papers the next day said it turned into a proper melee' . I'd of liked to seen them in their prime. I enjoyed their albums, they must have been amazing when they played straight. I'm glad they're still breathing, they are one of the groups that I'd of bet on having a tragedy. I'm always happy when people go out on top, these older guys out on tours make me sad mostly. Especially when I see people like McCartney being completely shameless and singing terribly. But hey, it's their lives.
Jon Anderson had such a naturally high voice that he never had to scream. And since Yes wasn't a Blues band, there wasn't any point in screaming. Screaming really wears down a voice like Tyler's and Robert Plant's.
Freddie Mercury didn’t scream live nor sing the high parts live. Those were reserved for Roger Taylor and occasionally Brian May. John Deacon occasionally sang backing vocals like on Killer Queen (low anytime), Somebody to Love (Earls Court and Houston 1977 you hear John’s thick English accent singing the low “find me somebody to love find” “somebody, somebody” sections). In the Lap of the Gods…Revisited, We Will Rock You (slow version Houston 1977 and all 1977/78 versions) and We Are The Champions (low end on live versions on the News Of The World and Jazz Tours). Only time Freddie would do high notes live was the trippy section of Get Down Make Love from 1979-82 (the 1982 versions segued into Brian May’s guitar solo spot) and the 1985/86 versions of Impromptu although he did a tiny bit in 1984 but not as much as 1985 versions which were a jam that would end and segue into “It’s a Hard Life” which Roger would scream “ONE TWO THREE FOUR” as the last drawn out C Minor 7th from Impromptu played by Spike Edney on the Yamaha CP-70 Electric Grand Piano would sustain.
@@terrencereardon6374 That's why they like working with Adam Lambert. He does sing all the high parts live. Many fans like to call Freddie one of the world's greatest tenors. Freddie said that his voice was a baritone. Some baritones do have very good high notes.
I true unicorn... I.E. A band that puts the integrity of the music above the almighty dollar. Time will tell if they stay true to their word. I'd say what affects that most is how well their money managers did their job, socking away the scheckel's. ACDC, who I thought set the standard when it comes to Rn'R, cashed in this year to mediocre (at best) results. It's embarrassing to see Brian Johnson screech and Angus noodle on stage, all to the tune of $100+ tickets. C'mon guys, retire already... You've earned it. Let everyone remember you from when you were at your best. Not when you already have a foot in the grave.
To answer your question Michael, no I have no interest in seeing Aerosmith with another lead singer. Just let Steve retire. The others could go on with another name or go in a different direction like Robert Plant has. They had an outstanding career of great music. Nothing lasts forever and nobody beats old age.
The twilight of Aerosmith's rock & roll was 40 years ago (I don't consider much of their pop albums rock & roll). there is plenty of great modern rock & roll music out there still.
Hmm...I thought Aerosmith was done with Draw the Line. Loved the 70s albums but once they straightened out they kinda went down the tubes for me. Jon Anderson? Now that is a totally different matter. He has managed to keep his voice intact more or less and still sounds like an angel. If you can do it then why not? But Anderson is a much different person than Tyler, isn't he? I'm interested in stuff Jon does and I'm looking forward to the album coming up. I find it interesting that there are still quite a few artists out there that are over 70 that can still tear it up and do it really well. Did we ever think that Deep Purple would release such good material as they have for the last ten years? And what's going on with the Stones? Even Paul can croak out great material these days. I love Paul's latter day albums. So, as long as they can keep doing it and it all sounds cool and stuff I will keep listening. (Umm...but maybe not go see them live.)
Dennis DeYoung, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, David Gilmour and Metallica have all released quality albums in the last ten years. Priest released three, Dennis, David, Maiden and Metallica all released two albums in the last ten years. Styx without Dennis DeYoung, Roger Waters and AC/DC should retire. Rival Sons should be more popular but they arrived ten years too late. Greta Van Fleet aka Zoomer Zeppelin are now irrelevant and has beens. Rap, Hip Hop and Pop is King as is Bro Country
I do hope Jon Anderson and the band gets up here to Canada. Every time I see Jon is a true blessing.

Yes IF they actually retire kudos to them. I like their radio hits. Mama Kin is probably my favorite of theirs.
GnR does a jam up version of mama kin on the Lies EP
Saw Aerosmith in 2004 ⚡
Completely agree with you! I salute Aerosmith if they truly mean they are retiring. However, they mentioned retiring from touring, not recording.
I'm lucky I saw Aerosmith in 2020 they were awesome!
Aerosmith is one of my favorite rock bands 🤘
Yup, one of America's best band.
@@owl509 A major loss but at least they are leaving with dignity.
Peace Out fell to pieces
Respect for being there for us
The come back kings
Aerosmith + Paul Rodgers... I would go and see that tour.
No time to move on and support newer artist.
100%.
@@thejoyofthemusicinmylife7897Rock is dead and mercifully so isn’t Britney Spears and Katy Perry. Those aging Jezebels are now 40 someodd and pop is a young person’s music
Aerosmith already stated complete refunds on all ticket sales on cancelled shows.
It's better to burn out than to fade away.
love your videos
I am old enough to have seen Aerosmith in 1976 when I was a kid in High School. I think that Aerosmith "Rocks" album is the best pure rock album ever made.
I prefer Toys in the Attic, but only very slightly. Just personal taste. Rocks was a classic.
@@MarkMay-cr6bv Same for me picking ROCKS slightly over Toys.
Wise choice. If you hadn’t seen them yet, dang.
I'm 54 next month, and i am NOT retiring from being a rock n roll hobo!
I wish Howe would lighten up and work with Jon. I would respect Aeroesmtih’s decision, but like you, Michael, I would take their “farewell” announcement with a grain of salt.
Time to look at newer artist and give them support they deserve.
Great podcast. You cover bands and music of 70's and 80's
Glad you enjoy it Traveler! Thanx so much! ❤
Listened to alll those bands, grew up with, espoecially bands cfrom the 70's Again, great podcast
To bad they've gotta quit. I've always been a fan. I have all of them to Michael. Hey were great live❤❤❤
Listening to Aerosmith's statement,... I HEAR THE PHRASE "BAND OF BROTHERS",.... then I think about Joey Kramer.
And Ray Tabano. They ditched him early in their career.
Oh Man Michael! You never saw Aerosmith Live??!!
Dennis DeYoung’s last two albums were incredible and David Gilmour’s upcoming album is also great
Did you get an advance copy of DG's upcoming album?
@@MIB_63 Three of the full songs I heard on the CD are phenomenal (Piper’s Call, Between Two Points and Yes I Have Ghosts) and Black Cat is a great introduction to the album and what I have heard of the title cut and the closing track on the LP is great.
Speaking as a member of Gen Z, Aerosmith will always be one of my all time favorite rock bands
What's your favorite ballad, Eunuch?
@@TheKitchenerLeslie My favorites are “Dream On” and “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”
@@TannerHemmingsen Only one of the modern ones that makes up the last 30 years of their career? You know at least 3 of them are the same song, right?
Retire rock royalty brothers ❤
Another great video Michael! And thank you very much for the heads up on the new Jon Anderson songs. They both are really good. Can't wait to hear the album. Do you know when it's coming out?
I tend to believe it. They were not very active in the last few years anyway.
I would not go to see them without Steven Tyler.
I could see Joe Perry forming a new band or continuing The Hollywood Vampires. I would go to see that.
Never saw this coming. I expected them to be touring into their 90s and beyond along with Kiss and Black Sabbath. 100s even.
The Band Geeks are NOT Jon Anderson's band! They are RICHIE CASTELLANO'S band!!
Bloody well right
They retired from touring, but they never said recording.
True!
@@marcoesquandolez4737They won’t record anymore and Hoe has his solo career as does Whitford
Aerosmith is a class act.. I've seen a video of three dog night doing eli s coming They should retire now
Richie Castellano. SAY HIS NAME!
Oh yeah - he's associated with the band that shall not be mentioned. A friggin' Transmaniacon. Right?
Michael snubbed Richie by not mentioning his name or the fact that he is also in BOC. Richie is one of the most amazing and underrated rock stars, he deserves recognition but rarely gets any.
Good for the "retirement" statement. Nearly EVERY other rock band from the 70s needs to do the same thing........Enough is enough.
Mike, when it's time, it's time. Toys in the attic made me a Aerosmith attic. 😂
I agree with you Fuxer! No when it’s time, every time! ❤
I’d like to see Whitfird St Holmes jam again
Aerosmith has the goo sense to retire before they be come tiring, unlike others..... How ever, I must differ with the notion that "Rock is dead". There are some bright spots, bands such as The Warning out of Mexico or Love Bites or Asterism, both out of Japan, or The Sixters out of Ukraine who not only show a mastery of their art at young ages but sound just as good live as in the studio, no, my friend there are still keeping the torch lit.
They should do a off tribute show for Aerosmith. Concert for George style. 🎸
Honestly Mike, who cares? Old men charging huge money to pretend they're still young.
Jon Anderson still sounds young. There's a difference.
@@serenitypeaceandcomfort3669Grumpy Steve Howe refuses to have him and rather tour a clone under the Yes name. Shameful mr Howe
Dennis Downer what a party guy.
I paid $40 bucks a couple years ago to see BOC...and felt 20 years old the entire show!
@@edwardmclaughlin719 yeah, at some point I grew up and realized that old guys jumping around in strange clothes just really wasn't that cool anymore. Imagine that.
I’m seeing Jon and the Geeks next week in Phoenix. Decent seats for $35 (before fees). Then Alan Parsons a few days later.
I won't go to see any band that wasn't their original line up period!
It's about time. They've been finished for a while. After Permanent Vacation, they should have gone on one.
rolling stones wannabes
Honking’ with Bobo is way underrated!!
Joe can now go out with the Hollywood Vampires
I forgot The Who and The Rolling Stones each released decent albums in the last five years.
Nice thoughts here IIabelle!❤
