Oh, this is a fun one!
Whilst using the underlying structure of nice simple shapes of light and shadow we can really play with lots of lovely rich colour and juicy pigment! There’s plenty of wet-in-wet work at all stages, as well as great fun to be had with the little finishing touches and details!! For me, this is what watercolour is all about!
I take you through a detailed analysis of the subject; including a delve into exploring a little more subtlety and variation within the boundaries of the light and shadow shapes (this is continuing to build on the last two tutorials of the tonal jaguar and elderley lady).
We will look at how this more logical approach gives us not only a simple process from which to tackle this, or any other subject, but also provides the foundation to have a huge amount of fun with the medium leading to a more intuitive, painterly and loose approach to our painting.
Be sure not to miss this one! Can't wait to see how you get on.

This was a great tutorial. I really enjoyed it. I went bigger on paper size. I went brighter in my colours..though i missed the mark on the bright orange. I only had cadmium orange...I should have mixed it. And i learned a lot about paint consistency and how to go thicker for the deep darks and background 👍. Thank you Tom for all the hard work you do to get these out here to teach us. Really enjoying it, learning heaps 🙏
