I have 3 bar stools just like that, I want to reupholster myself. You video is exactly what I needed to see. Thank you
Glad I could help!!!
Your tutorial on this subject is the best one on RUclips - very nicely done. I think I reviewed them all. Thank you.
Wow, thanks! I love that this was helpful!!! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!
Nicely done and no pleats showing. Thanks for the tutorial.
You’re welcome 😊
I actually got my fabric first on a great sale. I appreciate your detailed instructions and the possibility of just covering over the whole seat. I hope your assistant approved after he rolled on your fabric, i am sure mine will help too. Great job and thank you.
Glad it was helpful! And yes, my assistant approved!!! Lol!!! Thanks for watching.
Best technique demonstrated here in this video as far as stapling order.
I'm glad you like the technique! Thanks for watching and commenting!
This is a brilliant video that I just ran across now. I've got these exact bar stools to re-cover and now I know it's doable. Thanks so much for this great tutorial.
You are so welcome!!! I am so glad that it helped you! And wow that you have the same stools!!!
Thank you so much so well done. I'm stuck as I can't work out how to get a circular cover on to the seat.
Your tutorial was fabulous.
You are so welcome!
After several attempts, I'm so glad I found your video. You made it so easy. Thank you 😊
Stephanie, you are so welcome! I am glad it helped!

You are welcome. You can do it!
Very helpful. I have 3 bar stools just like yours and now feel confident that I can do a good job with recovering them. Thank you.
Awesome. I am so glad to be able to encourage you.
overall a good demonstration and I really liked the quick overhead replay. thanks
Glad it was helpful!
This was incredibly helpful! These stools look almost identical to some I bought on Facebook Marketplace! The demo gave me a bunch more confidence to do this! Fantastic! Thanks for uploading!
Christine, thanks for leaving a comment. I am so glad to be able to help you and give you the confidence to do this! Go for it. Take your time!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have 3 barstools and I want to fix myself. I appreciate your help with this tutorial
You are so welcome!
This was the easiest video to follow and my stool turned out great thank you for instructions love from London UK
Angel, I am so happy that my video helped you with your project. Awesome!!!
Thanks, this is exactly what I needed to redo very similar bar stools. I see that the trick to making them look really good is to use a lot of staples. Also, the best tip was to use another bar stool as a staging area!
I am so glad that you thought this was helpful!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I was going a whole different way trying to re-cover my round barstools with a similar vinyl fabric. Thank goodness you put me on the right track!!
I'm glad I could help! Thanks for letting me know! I hope it turns out well for you!!!
Thank you. With the stool being round I actually ordered two new ones. After watching your video, I’m not nervous about trying it myself. Maybe I can send them back when they arrive!
I am glad you are going to try it!!!
Thank you so much for making this video! I have a set of three stools that have worn out seats, but are still too nice to just get rid of them. I'll be doing this for sure.
You are welcome. Glad it was helpful!!
❤❤ thank you so much for helping me .. your instructions were so much easier than any other video I watched. I have saved this to be able to go back if I need to ❤😊.
I'm so glad it helped! Thanks for commenting!!!
Stools came out beautifully! You have inspired me to recover mine:) Very helpful video!
So, so glad you were inspired!!!
These stools came out beautifully!!! I want to do something similar with my bar stools at home and you’ve just inspired me!!!
WooHoo!!! I am glad that I inspired you. Go for it!!!
This was such a clear and concise video, and worked like a charm.
We had followed another video first and the vinyl cushion came out Horrible.
My friend and I watched your video and you made it look so easy. By working in smaller sections it made the vinyl much more manageable to work with. BTW our cushions came out Fantastic!
Thanks, this was the best video by far!!!
Julie, you just made my day!!!! Thank you so much for sharing your success with. I am excited to be able to help you with your project!!!
I recovered my stools following your tips, everything turned out great!!! I even posted me doing it in my latest video...of course I gave you credit and shared your link the description... Thanks for the tips!!!
Good job!!! Looks great!!! Thanks for mentioning me in the description.
That's a really good idea just covering on top of what's there
Thank you!
Thank you for showing a simple and efficient way to do this.
You are welcome. Glad you liked it!
mywithallmyart where should I start to staple if yes stool is square? I’m gonna do the leather as well
Thank you for doing this Video ! It was Very Helpful ! 💕👍🤗
Oh thank you, Marie! I am glad excited to be able to help you
You've done a really lovely job. How would you tackle an old tripod swivel antique piano stool with sheepskin?
I would have to see it. If the sheepskin is just a covering, I might just remove it. However, if the seat itself is sheepskin, then that is a whole other issue!
This was the best video on how to do this. My barstools are very similar. About how much fabric per stool?
My bar stool seat is 20 inches across. I cut a 23 inch circle. So measure across yours and add 3 inches total. I hope that helps
So you left the old cover on? I just bought some faux leather fabric to reupholster my bar stools and your video makes it seem soooo freaking easy!!! I'm not much of a DIY so the easier the better
Yes. I left the old cover on. It was thin microfiber suede. And I had staples long enough to go thru both layers and hold. It was easy. Just take your time and make sure your fabric is smooth. and then staple away!!!

Thanks!!
Lol I saw your comment on another video. This by far was the easiest method that I came across on youtube.
Thanks so much!!!
This looks very easy! Thank you!
It was easy. I hope you give it a try. Thanks for watching.
So basically Hands of the clock? 12, 6, 3, 9 first. Then 2, 8, 4, 10. Then Tug in the rest. Great video!
Yes!!! Glad you liked it!
@@mywithallmyartIt took about 3 hours to complete. But finally got it correct. Thank you for the video. Vinyl is not fun to work with. Many restarts to get the creases out.
Thank you for the video. I have 3 stools I need to recover. How much fabric would you need? Would 5 yards be sufficient? Thanks.
I would think 5 yards is plenty. Depends on the measurements of your stools. Measure from one side to the other, add 2 to 3 inches to each side for turn under. The other consideration is the width of the fabric. And unless the seats are larger than 36" wide (which would be some really large seats) 5 yards is more than enough.
Hi, thanks for the video! Q. You cut to pieces of fabric; do you use both for one stool? Also, what kind of fabric is best to use? Thanks so much for your help!!
I cut one for each stool. It was easier for me to cut them at the same time. The fabric choice depends on the amount of use your stool will get. I used an upholstery vinyl that was strong but pliable. Some vinyl, like for boat seats, was to stiff for the look and feel that I was going for. You can use upholstery fabric or a cotton duck cloth.
Beautiful job!
Thank you so much 😀
I ordered the same stapler from Walmart and a 5/16" staples and they sent me a box of 9/16" staples. Is it too big for this job? Thank you.
This is such a helpful video, thank you so much! I have 2 thrifted counter stools with cane-covered swivel seats. Can I use your technique, but with fabric or faux fur? Should I leave the cane as is or maybe add a thin batting?
Yes, you can use fabric or faux fur. Just make sure the fabric is not too lightweight to accommodate the use. Also, if the cane is in good shape you can leave it and add batting or upholstery foam. If you use batting cut it just a bit bigger to soften the edge. I hope this help and makes sense.
@@mywithallmyart thank you for your prompt reply! I was thinking of using an upholstery fabric, or heavy cotton/canvas. The cane itself is broken in places, and tbh, rather scratchy to sit on. The backs have the same cane as an insert, but I'll probably just leave them as is. I'm not sure how I'd remove them anyway. Thanks again for your help!
Where do you get the leather fabric from
Walmart several years ago. I had just got it when I made the video
Thank you you’re awesome
You are so welcome
Where did you source your vinyl from? I like the pattern.
I got it from Walmart but that was several years ago.
@@mywithallmyart thanks, I will try to find some there.
Very well done mam
Thanks John john!!!
Is ok use 3/4 plywood for backing?
Yes it is. That sound support a good amount of weight.
I just inherited the exact same stools and wanted to update the fabric- but I can’t figure out how to remove just the seat! Can you show me that part?
Turn the chair upside down. There are screws thru the frame into to bottom of the seat.
I want to cover mine in a tropical print but cannot find a video that shows how to remove the metal curved back on mine. They are similar to yours but have a metal curved upholstery back.
That's strange. Does the back have to be removed to access the seat?
Great job
Thank you!!!
Do good job, Thanks show easy way
Glad you liked it
😉😉
If there are three small tears (.5 in) in the existing pleather can you still redo over it?
It might depend on the amount of wear the seat will get. But I think it would probably be fine. If the original cover is fabric, you might put a couple of stitches just to secure it. I hope this make sense.
@@mywithallmyart Thank you for the fast reply. It is pleather and we are putting pleather over it.
@@debrat9291 should be okay with as small as they are. Please remember that I am not a professional.
But how do you do the backside when you have to much material at end of it?
I trim off the excess
Very good
Thanks
Can I put new vinyl over existing vinyl?
Yes, you can. You might need longer staples.the exception would be if the original vinyl is dry and cracked, it could damage your new vinyl.
Awesome 👍
You're welcome. Glad I could help.
Aren’t cats so helpful ?hahahaha
Oh yes! They are, always!
Thank you
You're welcome! Hope it helped.
I have lots of wrinkles on the sides, I don't know what I did wrong.
Can you remove the staples and start over. Work opposite sides first and with the straight grain. The bias edges will have a bit more give allowing you to ease in those sides.
the cat part was pretty funny
Yes, she loves being right in the middle of my projects! Her name is Kitty No!!!
I’d leave that material in the sun to warm it before installation.
That material was very workable and not stiff at all but that is a great idea if the vinyl is not pliable.
👍👍👍👍
👍👍
Thanks
Hope the cat got first sit on the stool😂
Of course she did. And especially if she thought I was fixing to sit on it!
Step 3. Remove cat! 😂😂😂
Always!!!
