    . In the last decade I started to go to fast oil change places since it used to be reasonable price. Now that I decided to change my own oil again this video was helpful in making sure there would be no surprises. Video was great. Lots of details and great clarity.
    FYI If you have this 1.5 turbo engine, you most likely have the "oil dilution problem" which means that about 1/2 of a quart or more of GAS has mixed into your old oil. You can confirm this by checking the dipstick. It will be over the full mark and smell like gas. Mine would cover the whole red plastic part of the dipstick! That said, if you add new engine oil up to the full mark, it will later travel past that mark by at least an inch. This could create extra pressure in your engine. Because of this, I started to put new oil up to half way between the midway mark and the full mark. This will allow some extra room for the oil/gas to expand so that it does not go past the full mark once you drive a few miles. Also, I started using 5-30w Mobil 1 oil. I am hoping this might help since the thicker oil has worked for some folks in helping to keep the gas from getting into the oil. I have about 32K mi on my 2020 sport 1.5t, but problem likely started when car was brand new! I just did not notice it then because it was a lease car at the time and I ASSumed my oil level was fine since the car was new. I would take to the dealer to change oil every 8k miles without checking the dipstick. Now, since I discovered the oil dilution problem, and I now own the car, I will be changing oil myself every 3k or 4k miles. Love the car, but not sure if I want to chance owning it when the fit hits the shan. Hopefully thicker oil helps.

    Because it’s a turbo engine I would probably change the oil at around 4500 or 4800 miles and I wouldn’t use that super thin oil unless you live somewhere The daytime high in the summer is in the 70s maybe but if you live in a state that it gets in the high 90s or you live in the desert, I would think 5W 30 would be a lot better choice and your turbo charger valve train camshaft and crankshaft would be a lot happier and last a lot longer And I can’t say whether the 20,000 mile oil from Supertek is any good or the Kirkland brand oil I can only base that what I’ve seen in the videos online

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  Год назад +1

      I'm impressed with the oil ratings on the KS and supertech, but I personally would not wait 20k to do the changes even if it's rated for that. different oils could be used depending on the region. Here in LA weather is pretty nice so I personally stick to oem standards

    In this honda how often do you change brake fluid / transmission fluid? Thanks in advance.

    • @Striker50_

      Brake fluid by default is recommended to be changed every 3 years give or take
      For the CVT fluid on the transmission, it's recommended about every 60k. The car will give you a notice.
      I made a video on how to change the CVT if you want to see that 🙏

      Call them out on it and ask for a refund. They could have damaged your engine, and worst of all a shop should not be guessing. Consider researching if it's better to use that oil with turbo engines.
      My personal opinion I don't know how beneficial it is to change the oil type and then you might also have to do a full flush so the different oils don't mix if you were to do that

    For the 1.5t engine, how often do you do an oil change. Do you go by the maintenance minder? I was told to ignore the maintenance minder and do it every 5k miles because of oil dilution?

    • @Striker50_
      @Striker50_  3 года назад +8

      Hey there thanks for watching first and foremost 👍 On this Accord I go by maintenance minder since 95% of driving is highway so it's not stressful on the engine.
      5k or "15% oil life remaining" is a decent interval to go by. From what I was understanding with the 1.5T is that a lot of the dilution was happening in cold regions. If you're not driving it too hard, aim for 15% oil life, that way it gives you some wiggle room to do the service. Also, keep in mind if you don't plan on keeping this car for over 100k miles, you should be fine if you're not on top of all the services

    Ditch the K&N air filter. They filter like shit and do very little for power. Gimmick at its best. The air filter is more important for your oil than the oil filter. Run a stock Honda air filter; they’re oiled from factory
