@@chrisbryant1836 yes, but earl was just complaining. It wasn’t really a thing, just part of Strickland’s banter. That dampness slows down the table, yes. But your missing the point.
Traditional pool is an entirely different game than snooker, for the same reasons and problems people have that play on a regulation table and then play on a bar table. In snooker the table is bigger, the balls are smaller as well as the pockets and they aren't cut to benefit the shot. It's much more of a precision game. I play on a regulation table and consider myself average at best, yet get me on a vending machine table and I look like a 2 day old rookie. You put Strickland on a snooker table and Ronnie has his way with him like a cheap date. Just like Reyes always did!
that would be fucking nuts. maybe if they met somewhere in between, like Chinese 8 ball. Though they'd probably go nuts and start sword fighting with their cues
It's obvious that Earl Strickland cracks Ronnie up. The guy would make me laugh like crazy to if i played against him, even if he got all out crazy i would still laugh. The guy is just funny, and a hell of a player.
Theres really no point comparing. Earls a legend but how much a legend he is, he would have a harder time to survive on the snooker table, than Ronnie has on the pool table. Ronnie is unquestionable the greatest ball potter ever.
Correct. In comparison with pool, Snooker forces players to be more precise with their angles, their pace, and their cue control. These refined skills obviously directly translate to pool, but not necessarily vice versa. Technique-wise, you can get away with more at the pool table - it's more forgiving.
Seriously doubt it but Earl is really good at pocketing balls. I think it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Earl switched to snooker about 20 yrs ago and moved to the UK. Probably would not have had the same level of success but I’ll wager he would have made a nice living at it.
Relatively speaking, the size of snooker balls compared to pro-tournament snooker pockets is about the same as the size of pool balls compared to pro-tournament pool pockets. So yes, while snooker pockets are smaller, so are the balls, making the "precision" inconsequential compared to pool if you're only considering clean pots. The reason snooker is difficult for pool players has more to do with a much bigger table and curved jaws. Conversely, the reason pool can be challenging for a lot of snooker players is the size/weight of pool balls and the thickness of pool shafts/tips can be a difficult adjustment due to significantly more throw and deflection. This is why even in this video, Ronnie was hitting high up the rail on some corner-pocket shots instead of going in clean like he would on a snooker table because the behavior of the balls simply isn't the same.
Let's turn the tables (pun intended), and see how it pans out on a 12 ft table. They could play 100 frames and guess how many Earl is winning...? ( It's a number between 0 and 0)
Earl likes to use different and strange equipment here and there. That strange glove is one of them. Here he put some shit on it to stabilize his fingers...because it's hard to keep them still when getting old.
Strickland of the greatest pool players ever playing probably the greatest snooker player ever interesting match up if o sullivan had taken up 9 ball im pretty sure he'd have been a world champion
For the sake of Public information , Ronnie and Efren played against each other in Snooker , Thailand 1991, Ronnie gave 25pts to Efren , And Efren Won!! Its a Fact!
Earl does believe he’s one of the greatest athletes to play the game but he also thinks so is Ronnie so is Efren Reyes and so many more athletes. And so that’s the difference between Ronnie and earl. Ronnie looks at the people he plays against as normal people like he does himself, so earl thinks he’s one of the greatest players to play too so he will often think he may be playing against someone who is or can become greater.
Yes, snooker in general, is harder than pool but, as Ronnie O said himself,"pool has its challenges that dont exist in snooker." In watching pro snooker and pro pool most of my life I can say this is the case. Snooker is harder than pool 1. The table is bigger. 2. The pockets are smaller. 3. The pocket cut is rounded. 4. There's no big break to open the rack and scatter the balls, leaving plenty of open shots. 5. The nap of the cloth is slower than 860 Simonis. 6. The balls are smaller making for a smaller contact point. 7. The general rules, dimensions of Snooker leaves for little luck. In games like 9Ball, the game can be won easily and luckily with very little skill. Snooker, you really hafta earn it. To play Snooker fairly, a knowledgeable ref is required. Pool is harder than Snooker 1. In Snooker, because of the dimensions and conditions, you actually are not going for shots in Snooker that are routine in pool. A) Rail shots B) Bank shots C) Carom shots D) Kick shots E) Combination shots. 2. Cue ball in pool is bigger and heavier making it harder to control, especially draw. 3. Modern contemporary pool table pockets are shrinking while not shrinking the ball size. 4. Pool balls are bigger. Snooker balls being smaller and lighter have a wider range of pocket speed. 5. Position play. In games like 9 Ball, players often are forced to play the cue ball with lots a spin to a multitude of rails. In Snooker, these shots would be suicidal. That being said, pool generally requires a broader range of knowledge of table angles similar to 3 Cushion Billiards. 6. Safety play. No rule on driving an object ball to a cushion in Snooker. To get out of safety play in pool, a knowledge of kicking angles is a must. 7. Break shot. In games like 9 Ball, 8 Ball, 10Ball-a good break is required. This is where a good 9 Ball player will beat a Snooker player in pool games. 8. Clusters. Because the table is smaller and the balls are bigger in pool, the balls have less an area to go without bunching up.
He reminds me of my self playing 8 ball i always complain too many clusters and still clear and my friend goes too hard my ass 😆 I really prefer 9 or 10 ball I struggle to make sense od 8 ball sometimes but its great to watch both these two play well played both of them 🤧👍👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
In the pubs maybe but if you go to a snooker hall there'll be the pool tables they're playing on here. There are different size English pool tables though as well. One table in a local pub not too far away from me is massive, still English pool and allowed in the local pool league.

But then once in an interview claimed pool isn't a sport. Strange bloke, talks nonsense but what a character
0:30 Ronnie looks at Earl like he's thinking "Wow, what a psycho, what am I even doing here??" lol
laubry he should have his own radio show.
Two greats in the same room. I'd have loved to have been there to watch this
Earl "pool ain't a sport, it ain't a sport.
Earl "I'm the greatest athlete that ever lived".
???
2:23 that look lmao
How is anyone in this room not just standing still and watching Ronnie play Earl???
00:03:13 Earl: i'm playing here all the time, it's a tough place.
Hahaha! Efren Reyes hustles without airconditioning on a beat up table in 2020 in Philippines.
I like how early is so humble . Just goes about his business quietly 🤦
He whines so if he loses he has all this excuses
no one buys what he's selling on that though. They appreciate his skill and try hard to ignore all the other garbage.
No it's called Hustling - he's doing it to put Ronnie off
lol
When he wins he still whines.
He believes he can play perfectly, if that's not happening, it must be the table is wrong. I can relate to that😂
Earl plays a character and it's paid off EVERY time with everyone.
Bingo.
Dude he ain't faking that at all, if he is though then he's a genius but I thin evidence points to the other being true, for example the 2022 Missoni cup he was still being down on himself pitying himself and Shane had to give him some pep talks, Earl is a true great love the dude but crazy to be as great as he is while also having the mindset he has usually had.
I think that Ronnie is such a nice guy that he didn't want to be the one responsible for this guy having an existential crisis, so he didn't really try that hard.
Ronnie can easily accept a loss, but this guy Strickland, seems like his self worth is tied up in his winning!
You don’t watch a lot of pool lol… Ronnie has known Earl for years… they’ve battled in the Mosconi Cup. Earl is a 5-time world champion, Ronnie wasn’t taking anything easy
@@KvnDWr Haha I know, I was talking in jest :)
@@KvnDWr tbh ronnie was handily gunna beat him, earl starts his whining to try n put off his opponents, i'm pretty sure ronnie was like "meh" lol, if you actually know anything about ronnie, you'll find sometimes he just can't be bothered lol.
The editing on this was atrocious and couldn’t follow a single game with all the splices and cuts(yes I know it’s not this RUclipsrs fault).
"conditions are tough though" - "yeah, yeah you said"
O'sullivan vs jayson shaw would be a great match
Jayson was going to play ronnie but jayson was away in China at the time playing Chinese 8 ball that would have been good to see ronnie o'sullivan played in 2 mosconi cups 96/97
he really blamed the “dampness” in the room lol
it slows down the cloth
@@chrisbryant1836 yes, but earl was just complaining. It wasn’t really a thing, just part of Strickland’s banter. That dampness slows down the table, yes. But your missing the point.
I'd love to see Earl play on a snooker table. He's obviously a great player. I'd just love to see it out of curiosity.
« Even there he wanted to win bad »
I love the English way to make fun of people staying so polite
Prime Earl v Prime Alex Higgins in a big money game would’ve been incredible.
that would be fucking nuts. maybe if they met somewhere in between, like Chinese 8 ball. Though they'd probably go nuts and start sword fighting with their cues
Two living legends competing against each other like this. The stuff of dreams. The pearl v the rocket, amazing 👌
It's obvious that Earl Strickland cracks Ronnie up. The guy would make me laugh like crazy to if i played against him, even if he got all out crazy i would still laugh. The guy is just funny, and a hell of a player.
I got to get that ball and that ball... yeah well done Earl you understand how the game works!
But can earl play snooker as well as ronnie plays pool
hahaha no! Earl will not pot three balls in a row playing snooker
Seriously doubt it but Earl is really good at pocketing balls. I think it would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Earl switched to snooker about 20 yrs ago and moved to the UK. Probably would not have had the same level of success but I’ll wager he would have made a nice living at it.
It seems obvious that, at least, Ronnies can't play pool as good as Earl in is old days, so, i don't see the point of comparison.
no
@@eclipsesolar8345 ronnie plays better pool than earl would ever play snooker
It's like you killed the final boss and came back to tutorial.
of course ronnie can't miss, he's the greatest snooker player of all time where the pocket precision is much tighter than our american tables
But he lost lol
At 01:39 he pots the 8 with both a solid and stripe still on the table
Let's turn the tables (pun intended), and see how it pans out on a 12 ft table. They could play 100 frames and guess how many Earl is winning...? ( It's a number between 0 and 0)
“I’m just lucky” -GOAT
Lucky audience down there. So jealous of them watching the 2 cue legends
Good to know that I'm not the only one who talks about bad table and humidity while losing
Alright now let's play snooker... Earl? Where did you go? Earl??
what's with the glove?
Earl likes to use different and strange equipment here and there. That strange glove is one of them. Here he put some shit on it to stabilize his fingers...because it's hard to keep them still when getting old.
9 ball is by far the most exciting "snooker type" sport.
Strickland of the greatest pool players ever playing probably the greatest snooker player ever interesting match up if o sullivan had taken up 9 ball im pretty sure he'd have been a world champion
yer ronnie beat him in the mosconi cup
Whats the song name playing during the match ?
if you you got a response please tell me
Earl Strickland meet Ronnie in the 1997 masconi cup. What happened to the Pearl's memory?
For the sake of Public information , Ronnie and Efren played against each other in Snooker , Thailand 1991, Ronnie gave 25pts to Efren , And Efren Won!! Its a Fact!
Does anybody know the song starting at 5:16? Can't seem to figure it out. Is it just some generic background music made for TV?
"I thought I was playing good, but you keep making pots, so Im playing terrible"
Is that spin city? I miss this place. 😢
Great representation for Brits and Americans
Earl does believe he’s one of the greatest athletes to play the game but he also thinks so is Ronnie so is Efren Reyes and so many more athletes. And so that’s the difference between Ronnie and earl. Ronnie looks at the people he plays against as normal people like he does himself, so earl thinks he’s one of the greatest players to play too so he will often think he may be playing against someone who is or can become greater.
this was some good editing. looking at the comments most people bought into the fake drama created by this scripted event.
scripted? if you know anything about Earl, you'd know this is no script. How he was portrayed is accurate.
If you watch some of earls other matches and interviews it’s no different. Blaming luck when Efren beat him fair.
What makes you say that? Who needs a script for a pool match?
We need another series
Wheres the whole episode?
3:36 Ronnie was hitting spots, and thereafter Earl was hitting it 😂
Earl: I'm one of the greatest athletes that has ever lived.... hmmm ok then!
This got to be one of the most entertaining videos... Whats the show on history channel called?
He reminds me of my self playing 8 ball i always complain too many clusters and still clear and my friend goes too hard my ass 😆 I really prefer 9 or 10 ball I struggle to make sense od 8 ball sometimes but its great to watch both these two play well played both of them 🤧👍👌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Earl is that fighter game player that beats ur ass in a set, gets outplayed once, and says “we both played bad.”
On a snooker table, Earl wouldn't stand a chance against a half decent club player. Against Ronnie? Lol no chance
He already lost to ronnie in a nine ball europe vs usa
timothy biesemeyer :(
@@hustlercollective Frown because it's not true or ???
@@templestark4779 It's true.
The American pool tables are massive. Proper tables too. A lot bigger than ours over here in Britain.
In the pubs maybe but if you go to a snooker hall there'll be the pool tables they're playing on here. There are different size English pool tables though as well. One table in a local pub not too far away from me is massive, still English pool and allowed in the local pool league.
Crazy how good Ronnie is at pool Earl wouldn’t even win a frame in snooker against Ronnie. If you watch Ronnie played abit like he does when he plays Jimmy White where he doesn’t really want to beat someone and takes it easy on them.
Never noticed that about White. Always assumed he pretty much made his own mistakes. I lived in England during his best days though and loved snooker and watching snooker as a kid. Whirlwind.
Temple Stark Yes exactly that’s why it’s easy to spot Ronnie taking it easy.
I think Ronnie was using a snooker cue for this game. The tip size makes a difference.
I didn’t know this dude had more words than Siegel.
What watch is Ronnie wearing here?
what show is this from?
A guy who never complains about conditions vs earl 😂
Great to see back in the early days of the mosconie cup when Ronnie and earl played against each other such good friendship to each other class acts I hope can join the pool circuit once he leaves snooker
The biggest trick in pool is breaking good, which snooker players struggle with
Billiards for a snooker player is like checkers for a chess player so easy
"I pressed it man, this controller is broken"
I am a golf billiards player thats something else then snooker and 8 ball but in my opinion Snooker players are best overall but dont forget about the 3 rail players
I forget that Earl Strickland is literally just Ricky Bobby
The Virgin Pool player: Complains about everything, blames the Table, the racket etc
The Chad Snooker Enjoyer: Just plays the game
Ronnie should get Shane Van Boening to teach him to break. Shane has the best break in my opinion.
I totally agree! he has a supernatural break
@@hustlercollective He should also get Efren to teach him safeties and Kicks. Even today no one can kick like Efren. I miss him.
@@johndesousa7379 Is Efren good at safeties? I haven't seen that much, but I'm pretty new to watching the sport on RUclips. Love Efren.
No. Francisco Bustamante has a killer break
@@templestark4779 He will never be matched. He knew his angles better than anyone. Kick Safes, Escape Kick Safes etc. His cue ball control especially when he was young was incredible. Lot's of video's on youtube.
Would love to see them play snooker. Would Earl even get a shot lol
I want to see Earl playing Snooker, that would be fun.
Can we see the same but in a snooker table? I just wonder how Ronnie would play with Earl? Would he be friendly or would he play the way he plays against top snooker players??
I still haven’t forgiven Strickland for the tabletop victory dance after beating the guy in mourning. He’s just an unpleasant person. C’mon Ronnie!
Details pls
@@Alan74_ynwa 2002, during the World Pool Championships in Cardiff, Francisco Bustamante’s infant daughter died. Strickland beat him in the final, 17-15, then jumped on the table, roared, fist-pumped, and danced around. Seems to me that kind of showboating is unprofessional and unseemly when your opponent’s been playing through intense grief. But it’s vintage Earl.
But you can't deny that Earl have ever play with the beast Efren numerous time, he was great player too
A great pool player never complains about the conditions of a table. It's the same conditions for both players. If you're great at pool, you will beat your opponent.
