  • My output power & SWR test of the Wouxun KG-UV9P. In addition to testing the factory antenna I also test and discuss the performance of the excellent Diamond SHR77CA and SRH701A high performance antennas.

There’s a big difference between 5 and 8 watts. I get so tired of guys saying there’s no difference. Trust me, there’s a difference.

Great video, as many of yours are. Would love to see a MARS mod video for this radio. Thanks for your content.

Excellent demo Scott. Great info and tips too. I was shocked to see the power and SWR readings. I love my Wouxun and Anytone but I think it's definitely time for an antenna upgrade. Those Diamonds look great and I don't mind paying more for a good brand that is proven to perform. 👍🤠

    excellent test
I have the Wouxun KG-UV9GX GMRS version. there aren't any GMRS repeaters anywhere near me, so I got the HT to keep in my Jeep to talk to others who don't have 2 meter or 70 cm radios.

I agree, There is a difference even though there's a minor increase. Every little bit helps.

I've always heard that you really can't get an accurate SWR reading on an HT because of all the variables involved. I'm retired LEO and I can say 90% of the time we never had to worry about how well our radio is picking up signals because most police have a very robust repeater network, but occasionally you might be out of your area and have a weak signal and we would always take our radio out and hold it on our hand and they would perform much better.

I got high readings using my cheap digital meter yesterday. Not really sure I was doing it right.

What kind of power does it do in low power.

I don't remember, but you might want to look at his review of the radio. He probably mentions it there

An increase from 5 to 8 isn't simply "+3", it's "+60%". That cannot not make a difference. A lot of people don't think about that. Same with prices in the grocery store. If something goes from $1 to $1.25, it isn't "just" a quarter, it's actually a 25% increase. Now, apply a 25% increase across your whole grocery cart. Makes a difference, doesn't it? Now do 60%.

No that is not how that works. It is plus 3dB. +3dB is a doubling in signal strength.
