The O-rings likely won't do anything to the sound when you already have silent switches. Most of the noise from the switch comes from when the switch bottoms out. In a silent type switch, that contact is damped with a soft material, so there's no clack anymore. The O-ring mod is meant to shorten the travel of a switch so that it won't bottom out, or that it will bottom out a little more softly. So it won't really do anything to already silent switches, except maybe make the typing feel a little mushier. The same goes for the lubing as well: It won't make a major difference since it can't affect the bottom out noise, which is most of everything you hear. What it can do is get rid of some of the scratchiness as the switch slides up and down, but that's a really small portion of the overall volume of the keyboard. It may make the remaining sound a little more "refined". And I guess if you lube the metal tongue and that part of the switch that together make the tactile bump, you might make a slightly more noticeable effect on the sound - but also make the tactility much less pronounced. It would have been interesting to see you try the O-rings on the regular switches that you still had on there, to see what kind of difference it makes to them. O-rings also come in different thicknesses and hardnesses, and can sometimes be used doubled up. But I don't think they will be nearly as effective as silent switches themselves.
I’m so glad I can’t hear my neighbours’ activities. Occasionally structural sounds like the pipes when water is running, but never their music or movies!
I'm thinking of buying the Keychron K10 Pro with either the ABS or ABP keys. Red or Brown switches. My goal is to have the keyboard sound and feel as near as my old Keytronic KT-2001 as possible. You can find typing sounds on RUclips for that. Replacing my Wireless Logitech keyboard on my desk in our office. Also the wireless mouse. Switch suggestions? Anything that you think annoying with this keyboard? Any mods that should be done in your opinion? What kind of mods are available? Is it only the switches for sound, feel and look?
Well, I think you should probably rename this video to one hour of explaining everything, but what the video says is about and how to waste the next hour of your life talking about nonsense nice video double thumbs up 👎👎!!!!!!!
I used those rubber bands for dental braces on one of my keyboards to dampen the sound. Works just as well. Got a bunch for free from a friend who's son had a bunch from his braces.
thanks for the video... needed to do some research on this myself since i also own one of those keyboard that others in the house constantly mock (blue switches). This video helped a lot in giving me some ideas and options. Thanks
I have a couple sets of keycaps from the same line as those. I really love them, soo chonky like the old school keyboards :) Just wish I could get a set that have the commodore theme but in the SA profile as well. Would love that paired with the Iqunix OG80 Darkside keyboard.
Most of the noise I heard during the playback was, noise coming from you hitting the keys too hard. You ended up getting the sound from the Ping Pong table reacting with the keyboard. if you just wanted to hear the keys alone put a foam insulator between the table top and the keyboard. otherwise. I am in agreement that the BobaU4 keys sounded quietest.
you can remove the clickbar of the Kailh Box White and it will become linear and silent. That is what I did with mine and it is the perfect switch for me 😀

My landlord called me to tell me about a complaint from my downstairs neighbor hearing my IBM Model M at strange hours of the morning. 😂
Ha ha

Nice
Thanks for helping me determine that there are definitely not enough years left in my life to spend them lubing key switches.

Hey Brian! Thanks man.
I'm kind of maniacal for a red backlit keyboard. One day I'd like to build my own backlit ergonomic (split-layout) keyboard with good switches.
You should
I like the color scheme, I hate the silent keys 😎😁
Thanks Aaron

There was a commodore set made a while back, but they sold out. They are taking signups for another run.
Show the lights on it

Kinda weird that you didn't go for the barebones version, since you weren't going to use the stock switches and keycaps anyway.
It was nearly the same price, so I figured why not have some extra keys and switches.
