  • Join us for our ninth episode of "The Flame Trench". The big news of the week is of course the mishap, and halting, of the Falcon 9, after the upper stage experienced a problem during the Starlink group 9-3 mission. Furthermore, we will discuss Arianes 6 not so succesfull mission, and the progress in Boca Chica.
The Flame Trench is the new name of our weekly, 5PM eastern Friday show, where we discuss all the recent space news, and developments of the space industry.

Excellent explanation of how statistics work, Every process step carries risk, accumulating those risks over the whole process increases the overall risk. As described, while each line of process, build, code may itself have 1:1M risk, combined it can come down to 1:300,

Failure is a statistical matter. The number of bugs in a system goes down with time. You can never be sure you have found the last system bug, even as time goes to infinity. The average time between failures just gets longer and longer. It's modeled by a decaying exponential.

For those looking at these replies who own an air fryer. Try bacon in an air fryer. It's a science, don't put it on anything, put it straight in there. Otherwise it'll stick stronger than a starship heat shield tiles, but damn does it come out good. You can get real good crispy bacon doing it in the air fryer. Stick it in a roll with some heinz tomato ketchup and enjoy heaven.
In other news, great show, I look forward to this every week, and I drip feed it to myself over the course of the week leading up to the next episode.

There was also something weird with the booster in this flight! The cam was partially blocked by something looking like a lose cable after stage separation. Have never seen something like that before. Is there any connection between these 2 anamolies?

Video about rockets and launching them is instantly disqualified when the host doesnt know kilos and lbs and gallons and liters are compatible units of measurement. And lbs and liters would be a wrong answer. Maybe I was wrong and 2 liter bottles weigh 2 liters. And the term 2 liter bottle is used because the American version, 4.5 lb (or more with sugar included) bottle is too hard to say and diet bottles would weigh less than non-diet bottles. Anyway, disqualified.

American here. Raised in inches and feet and lbs, miles, whatever. Yes, we do teach the metric system here but unless people are going into science or engineering, not comprehensively. Lived in Germany for awhile so I can convert distance and weight. Liquids, and temperature, not so much.
