    Well done! Great minds think alike. Although I have bought a Sony A7C + Sony 24-50mm G F2.8 to meet the demands of shooting photos of my fast growing kids, I still cherish and keep my Fuji system and would regret selling it off. I have the exact combination of Fuji gear presented in your video, including an X-T20 in Silver, the original Fuji grip that's made for the X-T10, 35mm F1.4 prime, 18-55mm zoom, 55-200mm zoom (and also 10-24mm zoom - not sure if you have this zoom lens), all protected by the same Hoya HD UV filter. The 55-200mm zoom is particularly interesting in my situation and complementary to my Sony setup, because you get a full frame equivalent focal reach of 300mm in all its 24M pixel glory (with OIS image stabilization). The Fuji system is still very special to me as that's the system I used to take photos of my first child when she was born.

    I just bought an xt-20 body and adapter to use with my high end canon FD glass. I have a 50mm f1.4, 28mm f2, 85mm f1.8, 70-210mm f4, and a few other zoom lenses. The 28 and 85 go for well over $1000 if you can find them. Replacing these lenses with modern lenses would cost me quite a pretty penny. I've been a film shooter since high school. But I've recently had the need for high quality product photography (watches) and doing this on film is very difficult and problematic as my darkroom access has all but disappeared. If you have ever shot watches, you will know how difficult this is on film. I am VERY impressed with the image quality I get out of this set up

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 года назад +1

      HI. Thanks a lot for sharing this. I've seen the same with Nikon lenses. I've been using Nikon lenses with my X-T20 and X-T30 and I'm soon going to have a video on that. I agree that adapters can work very well and it makes sense to continue using the wonderful existing lenses.

    • @therealblurrybarber
      @therealblurrybarber 2 года назад +1

      @@tom_photo honestly I couldn't believe the image quality. It made sense for this type of setup since my main needs are for product photography. So I don't really need any of the extra features provided by most modern lenses. I've also looked into some modern manual focus lenses that might work for me as well. I may give a few of those a try in the future. But like I said before, I kinda have what I need with the current set up. Maybe a good macro lens would be my next step. The FD 70-210mm f4 isn't Terrible for macro, but it could be better. Im going to keep an eye out for a decently priced manual focused macro lens next. I too have wanted to explore some of the amazing Nikkor lenses out there but have never had a Nikon system. Like you said, these adapters are amazing and I may look for said macro in a Nikkor lens

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 года назад +1

      @@therealblurrybarber I've been using Tamron SP Di 90 mm 1:2.8 for Nikon macro lens in front of my Fuji X-T20 and it works very well with my adapter. It's manual focus only with this setup but with macro lenses I prefer to use manual focus anyway. I'm soon producing a video on this lens and also how I use it with Fuji.

      Can someone tell me if there is an option of buying an adapter that would allow the use of new Canon or Nikon lenses. I can live without AF, but I would buy an adapter that would allow me to control the aperture.
      I've got a bunch of great Canon lenses (35 mm f1.4, 50mm f1.2, 85mm f1.8, 135mm f2, 16-35mm f2.8) that I would like to use with other cameras.

    I already owned a Pro 2 when I picked up the XT20. Same sensor and processor and same great photos from each cameras but in a smaller package. I purchased my first XT20 right after the XT30 came out. It was a demo and cost just over $500. I liked it so much that I bought a second XT20 from keh . It looked almost brand new and who ever owned it before had never updated the firmware, so it never had hard use before me. I shoot street in Charlotte and this small package doesn’t draw attention and does 80% or more of what my Pro 2 does. And, it has a switch that you can turn on that lets the camera become a point and shoot. You can let the camera teach you some new tricks.

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 года назад +3

      Hi Charles! Thank you for your comments. The points you mention are very true, indeed. Size really matters and especially in street photography where you don't want to disturb people. I'm also an advocate of two identical bodies, especially because then you don't have to switch lenses very often and have a freedom to choose the best setup very quickly. I was photographing landscape the other day and suddenly a bird landed close to me. I got the bird picture only because I had a telephoto lens attached to my second body sitting next to me in my photo bag. Good luck with you photography!

    Hi Tom , again Thank you again for another information wonderful video . I also have a issue with owning way to many cameras. All of mine are Cannon and Nikon although through watching your channels I’m really wanting to buy a Fujifilm camera I’m very glad Kevin asked some very good questions. I am also having a hard time trying to make a decision I at first had my heart set on the X-T10 after watching one of your videos . I was trying hard to pick one up at a used price ( wow o went into shock ) what they were asking for those cameras . I just could not justify that price for a used camera . Most of the times with no lens. I’m getting ready to watch your video about buying a used camera all of my other cameras were purchased new . Once again Thank you for your patience and sharing your knowledge. I know I greatly appreciate it !!

      Dear Blessyourheart! Thank you for your kind comments. My cameras are all Fuji or Nikon and I like them both a lot. However I have to admit that Fuji feels more special to me. Fuji's tend to be more expensive, too. Fuji optics is amazing and (for me) one step ahead of the competition. The X-T10 is an amazing camera. Recommending it is an easy job. You may find out, though, that some newer lenses work a bit differently on it's body. For example I've seen that single focus may behave more like continuous focus etc. It's important to keep its firmware up to date. My main workhorse these days is Fuji X-T30. I often need two cameras at the same time so I have two of them. I'll soon have a special video out on Fuji X-T30 as well. What I like about the X-T30 is that it's a pro level video camera on top of what it can do in photography. I've started work on producing a video on using Nikon lenses with Fuji cameras (should be ready in early May). Thanks again for your feedback!

    Dear Tom, I watched this video to try and help me decide which camera to take on my holidays, shall I take the X-T20 or the X-E2S? I prefer the X-E2S because of the viewfinder on the left, with the X-T20 I have problems when I playback photographs, as I move my hand upto the left to press the play button, the LCD screen goes blank because the camera thinks I am going to use the viewfinder. But the touch screen on the X-T20 is so useful, the drive dial is easier to use than the drive button on the X-E2S. I also like the auto switch. I think I will eventually decide to take the X-T20 with the XC 16-50 and XC 50-230 and XF 27mm lens.I agree with you, I prefer the 4 way pad rather than the joystick.

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kevin! Thank you for your question. You are choosing between two excellent cameras. So, I don't think you can go wrong here. The X-T20 is a bit newer technology as you also pointed out. I find touch screen very useful for video; I think it affects photography less. The X-T20 has a tilting screen which I've grown to like, especially when taking macro shots. I personally would perhaps choose X-T20 but it boils down to personal preferences. (You are right about the viewfinder, the one on X-E2S may be more convenient to use). Good luck to you!

      @tom_photo  6 месяцев назад

      Hi S. Ray! Thank you very much for watching and for asking this question. As you move from X-T10 to X-T20 and then X-T30 the colors get a bit more accurate and a bit less film like. I love X-T10 because it probably gives the most interesting output, the X-T20 and X-T30 are absolutely amazing, too. Since these cameras have different sensors they all behave a bit differently in different conditions. What I love about Fuji is its color science and color simulations. I especially like Classic Chrome ( ruclips.net/video/eH1NqG0lhaw/видео.html ). This offers stunning film-like color. I would recommend Fujifilm X-T30 ( ruclips.net/video/OuV0ydLM20w/видео.html ) with full confidence. It is my main every-day camera and I absolutely love it. Best of luck to you!

    Hi Mr TomPhoto...I´m about to get back into photography... I stopped back in the day when the Canon 1DX came onto the market...I used to earn money with photography and had a lot of professional Canon gear. I never even considered Fujifilm...although I knew wedding photographers loved the Fuji S5 Pro. I never had a Fujifilm. So my question is...do you still,stand by the recomendation you gave about six months ago? I don´t want to spend an awful lot of dosh on a camera and lens, but I also know that I will not be getting a Canon again...or a Nikon or Sony or Lumix. I´ve used em all to a greater or lesser extend but Fujifilm has always interested me...simply because of the films that I used back in the film days. Nowadays I don´t want to go pro any longer and just want to take good pictures again. Coming from pro level cameras and lenses, is the X t20 up to the job?

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  Год назад +4

      Hi K Norke! Thank you for this very interesting question. I started out with Nikon cameras and I like(d) Nikon cameras a lot. I first discovered Fujifilm because I liked their styling and handling, to be honest. But when I saw the quality of their optics and the film simulations there was no way back for me. Fuji is interesting in the sense that they don't make bad optics. Their normal optics may be more expensive than the optics of some other manufacturers, but it's worth it. The other makers tend to make two kind of optics: amateur level (which is cheap and not very good) and pro level (which is good but expensive). With them you have to know what to buy. With Fuji you pretty much just go for the Fuji sign and that's it. So yes, I recommend Fuji for the quality of work that they do. You are a pro photographer so I'd naturally want to recommend the highest level Fuji for you such as the X-T3,4,5, or X-H1,2. Until very recently the pro level and 'lower level' cameras shared the same sensor and photo quality wise it made little difference what camera you got (handling and options were the difference). This means that you as a pro can get the same or very similar results out of just about any Fuji. So my better recommendation is actually to not get the higher level cameras and go with more convenient smaller size and lower price, instead. The X-T20 you are asking about is a perfect example of a camera that does a pro job in a small and enjoyable package. So, yes, I recommend X-T20! Because it will make you smile when you hold it in the hand and when you see your photos. Kind regards!

      You will be astounded at the quality of the Fuji and the size after the Canon 1DX. I've kept my trusty Canon 5DIII system for portraits, a few weddings and landscape photography and have a Fuji X-T20 system for travel photography. Both systems are absolutely fantastic but very different. I still love the Canon for natural colour rendition, particularly skin tones but Fuji offers a new wave of options and the colours and details pop.

      Hi Dheeraj! Thank you for asking. The answer depends on what kind of resources you intend to spend on a camera. For the same price I'd get the X-T30. However, when talking about the value for money then the X-T20 might win. If you need a camera only for photography, maybe prefer the X-T20. If you see yourself do a lot of video work too, then the X-T30 is a better choice. Kind regards!

    Tom I would like some advice, i start to look at Fuji since the XS10 came out, that was the first camera of fuji i like it, then some day they bring the XE4 ( my first reaction was: what a ugly camera and with no IBIS ) today im in love of that camera desing. In serching and saving for my first camera, i have look several fuji cameras like the XM1 and the XF10, X70.
    At this point im starting to apreciate the folder fuji cameras like the XE3 or 2, this XT-20 the XT-2, but since im saving money to buy it, i always Said to myself, no you neet to buy Something newer like the xt4. What do you can say to em, is it That i already have GAS. I probable some day buy a camera like the X70, but the first Thing that comes to my Mind is the newer cameras, then theres the other story about the Xtrans-1 sensor i believe its called. I dont Know soundslike all the fuji cameras are great

    • @tom_photo
      @tom_photo  Год назад +1

      Hi MrNecropodo! I think you are right when you say that all Fuji cameras are great. It largely boils down to ergonomics, design and what feels good in the hand. I have several Fuji cameras and every one of them is special. My favorite design is perhaps X-E2 or X-T20. I use X-T30 most often but sometimes go back to very basic X-A1 or X10. I, too think, that the X-S10 is great because it has IBIS. It might be my first pick if I only had to choose one. Now there's X-S20 which is said to be even better. I always say that the camera doesn't take the pictures - it's the operator. So I like basic cameras more than new advanced cameras. I feel my photography is better when there's simplicity. If you want a small Fuji that is very capable I'd say X-S10 or X-T30. The X-T3,4,5, is what I'd avoid at first. It matters more what lens you use than what the camera body is. Fuji colors are amazing, almost all of Fuji lenses are incredible. Best of luck to you!

    Would you recommend this or the Sony aii? I’m looking for a new camera and anything would be helpful

      Hi! Thanks for asking. I know more about Fuji than Sony. But for me these cameras are very comparable in value. The main reason to prefer the Sony is certainly its in-built image stabilization. You might also like its environmental sealing and wireless connectivity. You can use this camera as a webcam, too. The Fuji has its own advantages. It is smaller and lighter, has a flash, the screen is touch sensitive, it has time lapse recording and its video goes to 4K (the Sony can only do HD). So, both cameras are really nice. I personally like Fuji cameras and so I can only say that the X-T20 will not disappoint. I've always liked Fuji optics more than optics from the other manufacturers. Kind regards!

      @@LeonaDebora Hi Leona! This is where both of the cameras excel. I think you cannot go wrong with either camera. I'm a fan of the X-T20 because I know how great it is. As to the lenses, the XF 18-55 is larger and more expensive, the XC 15-45 is smaller and more affordable. Still the XC 15-45 offers great quality and a very wide angle of 15 mm which can be good for streets. I'd say the XC 15-45 is a perfect buy. Best of luck to you!
