GoodFellas | East New York 1955

- The iconic gangster film GoodFellas had much of its scenes filmed in Astoria, Queens, New York City and home to Tony Bennett. The story begins in East New York in 1955 where Henry Hill grew up across from Paulie's brother's cab stand. It was where young Henry got his first job working for the mob. Tony Sirico played Tony Stacks and older Henry Hill is played by Ray Liotta. Paul Sorvino played Paulie Cicero-the boss-who didn't want a telephone. All of the 1955 scenes were filmed in Astoria, Queens. Rest in peace Paul Sorvino, Tony Sirico and Ray Liotta-true GoodFellas

Paul Sorvino and Ray Liotta. May they rest in peace. "Goodfellas" is a movie that you never tire of watching. Unlike the movies of today which are forgettable.
Very true, Rene. Amen to that. 🙏🏻 👍🎥
My wife and I were having a conversation the other week about the fact that in the last 10 to 15 years there are no movies that have or will be considered classics in the future. We thought maybe The Dark Knight but that was all we could come up with. Then we went to 20 years and older and immediately started naming dozens of movies. 1975 to 2000 produced the greatest movies ever.
@@stinkyham9050 Great exercise! Yep. It’s sad.

A movie you can watch over and over again and never get tired of it.
I got a little tired, maybe it was all the pasta.
That’s exactly what you dub as timeless
I watched it a million times and I never got tired of it
The movie is so well-paced. With this scene, it's relaxed and easy, and really conveys a sense of tranquility and serenity. Then compare it to the scene where Henry is coked up and running around, and it's almost suffocating with the quick cuts and close up shots. Scorsese is so good at using all aspects of the movie, not just the script, to tell a story.
I think it has a lot to do with the enthusiasm that Ray Liotta delivered his lines
This clip alone is making me wanna watch the whole movie again for the 100th time
The way Paulie's brother runs with Henry holding the umbrella. Gold ..
And paulie still standing there at his door watching them adds to the comedy.
he bums a nickel off the kid and the kid being so wrapped around his finger reminds him not to get his feet wet while running and holding the umbrella for him hahahahah
I have watched Goodfellas many times and will never get tired of watching this classic. Paul Sorvino, Ray Liotta, and Tony Siciro together in one scene! May they Rest in Peace.
Just watched it last night for the umpteenth time.😂
It was the first Mafia movie I watched. I checked out a VHS tape from the library back in 1993 when I was 19. Just wow.
Goodfellas? Fuhgeddaboudit
And don't forget that in this movie we can also see Loraine Bracco (the Tony Soprano's psychologist) performing as the Ray Liotta's wife, such as Michael Imperioli (Tony Soprano's nephew) as the employee who is shot and killed by Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci).
@@nastypiglosi1788 your handle name is hilarious. Literally made me laugh out loud! Glad you were inspired by this movie too. I was 12 in 1995, just seen Casino and someone told me to watch Goodfellas. One of the best movies in my opinion
The way Paulie bites into the bread right as the song hits that emotional spike while the camera slowly zooms with the soft, orange sunset lighting while surrounded by the summer green -- one of the most cinematic moments in film history

One of the final scenes with Paul Sorvino and Ray Liotta is one of the best scenes in the movie…. Henry goes to Paulie after being arrested and says “ I have no where else to go”…. Paulie hands him whatever money he’s got in his pocket and says “ now I gotta turn my back on you”

I bet i've watched this movie 75 times in my life. I wanna see it again right now. Its Beautiful 🇺🇸
That 1950s grill / metal grate on the cinderblocks back yard scene is such a era of how it was
Awesome when Paulie walks to the doorway and just intimidates the guys into being quiet, no drawing unnecessary attention to the club.
Same. He spoke volumes without having to say anything. They all just stfu 🤣
I saw an interview where Paul Sorvino went and auditioned for Paulie but he thought he was awful and I can't remember 100% but I think he walked out or said "I don't wanna waste your time" but look how he nailed this role. Same thing happened with James Gandolfini playing Tony Soparano. He thought he was awful for the part and doing it all wrong. But they were spot on and absolutely killed the roles of a mob boss
Both of them had to find "The look" in the mirror, and the demeanor too. You can hear the difference in Gandolfini from S1 to S2
I can't imagine anybody playing the part of Paulie better than Sorvino. He totally nailed the scene where he talks to Henry after he gets out of prison. The little slap in the face at the end was totally ad-libed but it fit so well that Scorsese kept it in.
@@albundy6008 Its amazing that Paul Sorvino is the exact opposite as a person as this character. It really took him a while sbd just a scary look in the mirror for him to capture the essence of "Paulie"
Yeah, Paulie had to get that "look" down and he mentioned how it scared him. Sorvino was a gentle guy in rl.
Paul Sorvino, Ray Liotta, Tony Sirico, Frank Vincent........

Damn it's always wild to see a movie now and realize a majority of the actors have passed away. Great film and I hope it's remembered for years to come.
I grew up in Queens and my Dad used to make sausages on the grill just like this and my Mom made the peppers and onions inside. My Dad would cut the bread to just fit the sausage. He said any other way was wasting bread. To this day when I watch Goodfellas I rewind ll of the food scenes because as a Italian American kid in Queens this is what we grew up with. Cold cuts and sandwiches and sausage and peppers and macaroni...Man I can smell the peppers
I was fortunate to live in Italy for almost 2 years In a little fishing village by the town called fogia
30 years after watching this film, I realize that's Paulie Walnuts!
goodfellas probably has my favorite first act in cinema
you cannot just stop and remain satisfied at watching goodfellas clips.... you have to watch the entire movie again
My childhood was spent growing up in East New York. There were three lessons I learned to survive and thrive.
1. Keep your mouth shut.
2. Keep your mouth shut.
3. Keep your mouth shut.
Outside the cab stand scene if you look carefully Scorsese captures genuine lightning and thunder strike's in the background making the scene in my eyes much more authentic and special,it must have been a one in a million shot for the camera man and crew.

Just one more reason why Scorsese is one of the top 3 directors of all time.
Stunningly beautiful movie. I yearn for this masterpiece of creativity these days. So, I continue to hit ‘rewind’.
Well said. 👍
The only movie that gets better with every watch. An untouchable classic. God bless Martin Scorsese.
I'm rather old & grew up in East New York and still have the old neighborhood accent. That and the memories (some good, many bad) are all I have left of ENY.
I can relate. Wyona & Fulton St.
Saw this movie must be 50 times, never realized til today that number 2 out of the car was Paulie Walnuts...Tony Sirico. Got to stop smoking so much weed.
😂
Crazy that Ray, Toni, and Paul all died within 3 months of each other. RIP to those legends.
Look at the continuity between scenes at 3:40 , the red brick background and the sound of pouring rain converted into the red sausages on the grill and the sound of them sizzling sounding just like the rain. Amazing detail
I like that type of transition.
That cadillac shot is amazing. The way scorsese captures masculinity and stylizes it is just genius
One memorable scene from many in this movie was the prison scene, where Paulie is fine slicing garlic using a razor blade. A true classic.
The way they ate & how they got special treatment ALMOST made me wish I was in prison with 'em... ALMOST!
He cut it so thin, it would liquefy in the pan.
Only finding out today, over a year later, that Tony Sirico passed away😞
I watch goodfellas once a month, finding it even better everytime
I love this movie. The meme is going around saying “the man upstairs is putting together a crew for a big job”
Did you ALL Notice how Paulie was phone-phobic?? And, Then, years later, Jimmy says to Henry in The Diner: "I've been telling you your Whole LIFE...don't talk on the Telephone. NOW do you see what I Mean??"
Like an Anton Chekov play: "If you introduce a gun in the First scene, you need to use it by the Third scene."
The end of an era, Sorvino was a great actor and one of the best wiseguys ever cast. God bless.
Great tribute.
I'm just some guy in the UK who was a little kid when Goodfellas was filmed but it was a huge part of my childhood as were the actors, many of whom resurfaced in The Sopranos.

This movie holds up like it came out yesterday…..
Simply my favourite film. Perfect in all areas. Script, acting. Editing, direction, camera, music.
I felt it necessary to add to my previous comment. Ray Liotta’s voiceover in this scene is so good. Acting isn’t always being in front of a camera, his performance is so convincing that even though you are seeing Henry when he was younger you have no reason to not believe they are the same person Amazing!
the casting of young henry is perfect
The Godfather I & II were way superior to Goodfellas.
I'm not saying Goodfellas is a bad film. On the contrary it's a great film.
However, compared to the first two Godfather films and the Sopranos series, it has lost its lustre.
Yes, Scorcese did a great job stylising the life of Henry Hill.
However its that stylising that makes a great film but unfortunately, detracts from the real Henry Hill and the genuine life in the Nafia. It is not fun or glamorous. Your broke most of the time and live in absolute fear and dread 90 per cent of the time as you don't know when you will be murdered by your so-called 'friends.'
Scorcrse gives us a glimpse of this at the end of Goodfellas.
If you read the book written by Henry Hill's children, you will never view Goodfellas again with such fondness. Hill was a low life who treated his wife, and subsequently, his children like dirt.
Hill only cared about himself.
Even when in the FBI's Witness Protection program, Henry Hill jeopardised their lives. Hill would call New York and try and organise, for example, ecstasy deals in the middle of nowhere, i.e., some nameless town in Nebraska.
Hill and his family came close to being killed on at least two occasions. On one occasion, the FBI got them out about 20 minutes before the hit men arrived. Hill was so drunk that he couldn't even remember calling New York and betraying his whereabouts.
His wife found out that they had been kicked out of Witness Protection as the film Goodfellas was doing the rounds of the world wide cinemas.
@@FrostedSeagull thanks for the background. I guess no surprise Hill was a low life.
A Classic a Masterpiece. I never get tired of watching this movie.
Paul Sorvino was one of the greatest under rated actors of our times. Loved him on L&O! He was also a great artist and writer.
One of my favorite movie of all time. It’s gonna be extremely hard to get casts like these actors now days. Too much fluff not enough quality
Times change and generations grow old. I don’t think it’s a lack of quality actors, but this era was a long time ago. You can’t expect a new crop of actors who grew up in neighborhoods like this. When Goodfellas came out, 1955 was 35 years ago. Today, 35 years ago is 1988. New eras, new stories, and so on and so on.
This film is a masterpiece
I loved these movies about Italian New York Mob. I never lived in those days but they’re so classic and captivating.
One of those films that whenever you flicking channels and chance upon it you think I’ll just watch a few minutes and end up watching the lot for the umpteenth time then go to bed at half 12 instead of half ten.
😂
