**Notes from the translator, tetshua_ (the previous Zhongli):
We had a lot of fun translating this. Our goal when we were translating is to not just get an approximate translation of the original, but also write it in a way that can be appreciated by Filipino listeners.
For instance, in most parts like the first two lines of the chorus, "araw na magbilad tayo." it;s fairly straightforward from the Chinese "when the sun come out, bathe in the sunlight". But the next lines of the first chorus translate as "When it snows, let's have a snowball fight". Problem is, there isn't any snow here so we replaced the lines with something that also captures Hu Tao's playful nature, so we replaced it with the usual Larong Pinoy rhymes: "Tagu-taguan, maliwanag ang buwan" (Hiding, the moonlight is shining) is what kids sing at the start of Hide-and-Seek
and of course the very popular game Langit Lupa where kids chang "Langit Lupa Impiyerno", which quite precisely captures Hu Tao's "playfully morbid" personality. We'd like to think "Langit Lupa" would be a game that Hu Tao would love playing.
Another part we had fun with was the rap part. There was no way we could ever accurately translate the original Chinese meaning into a Filipino rap, so made our own. For one, both Chinese and English translations had fun with puns, especially the “Hu”, so most of our rap verses started with the “Hu” or H sound, like “HUni ng magulong multo”, HUdyat ng dedong lolo mo”, “Hukay na ating Huling Hantungan”, “HUling Hiling bago Hukayin ang libingan”. We even incorporated the use of butterflies that are found both in the Chinese and English translations. Although Filipino’s superstitions on butterflies differ; whereas in Chinese lore (at least from what we got in the original version), butterflies guide the dead, in Filipino lore, butterflies are the ‘signs’ (hudyat) of our dead relatives.
