- Visiting a tiger temple, watching a performing monkey show or riding an elephant are the top attractions on Thailand's tourist trail.
What guides do not tell visitors are that many of these animals have been abused.
Thailand recently introduced laws to protect animals born in captivity. But critics claim they will do little to prevent mistreatment in this multi-million dollar entertainment industry.

I am in Thailand. The tourists do not care about how the animal are treated and how the people are treated. they just want a fun time. the beaches in South Thailand are becoming dirty. I hate all this.

Swaadeekhaa. I have just come from Thailand after one month tour. I went to animal attraction and I took pics with elephants at sanctuaries and camps. But I didn't ride elephant as it is unethical and cruel.

Tracy Hughes thankfully this place has finally shut down they were selling the tigers on the blackmarket to use in Chinese medicine. The government finally took action.

I just came back from Phuket, I went to the green elephant sanctuary where they rescued the elephants that were being forced to go up ginormous hills while pregnant 9+ hours a day with tourists on their backs.. the elephants they haven’t saved especially the ones at the hill of the big Buddha are chained by their foot and they walk round in circles (baby elephants by the way!) the adult elephants are also chained kept in one place standing up no rest. The tigers especially the ones who live with the monks in the temple, are going missing by poachers and are being killed to be made out of rugs or sold on the black market, or for tourists are being drugged, chained up, hit and being made to live in awful conditions. The sanctuary is amazing and the money you pay goes back in to saving up to save another elephant. Which they got to buy the elephants off these people. Some cost up to 800,000 and more baht. Someone needs to shut these places down because they don’t care about these animals all they care about is tourists and their £££££

Tiger temple has been raided and shut down (if you don’t want to be sick don’t read about what they found), however these attractions still exist!! (Tiger kingdom, Phuket Zoo, etc)

I was at tiger kingdom phuket and am not feeling all that good about my experience now. While I was there, I saw tigers being vaccinated (dont know if it was a sedative or a beneficial vaccine). I definitely am shaping a new opinion on wildlife tourism and whether I want a picture/show of any captivated wild animal. Viewing them in the wild is definitely the best option.

Organized religion is the exact opposite of the original teachings. The buddhism in Thailand is only so-called buddhism, it is more about traditions and rituals and customs and repetition and hierarchy and status and power and it has nothing to do with real understanding of human nature or with true compassion. Most of the monks are just told to repeat without any real inquiry or understanding. This is the same in any religion whenever it becomes organized (whether its Christian, or Buddhist, or Muslim, or Hindu or Jewish) it becomes corrupted, it asks the followers to obey and never to inquire and ask question and to find out themselves. the organized religion just wants you to follow and obey and accept beliefs without question.
And yes, that so called monk in this video is the best example of this corruption of the heart. It is very common in Thailand and in any organized religion which demads obediance and not intelligence.

totally agree with you Daniel G, somehow this also happens in politics and other aspects of our human society , how could we be able to break apart from this repetition of meaningless rituals and corrupted hierarchies ?
We start with ourselves. We start by radically slowing down from our incredibly fast mind/society and listening deeply to the innermost truth of our heart. and not agreeing to be corrupted or to adjust our inner truth to what society/parents/schools demand. We have integrity. We let our heart be our own authority and our own light.
We don't agree to live a second hand life just in order to survive if it means abandoning the inner knowing of our heart, the innocence and natural joy of inside us.
Society is made up of individuals. As we are so society is. When we are different, society is different.
Yes, there is also the systemic level or the rigid structures we love in, and on that level it is definitely wise to educate oneself and to try to bring about the incredibly immature and unintelligent economic and monetary structures that are at the root of all all atrocities in the world today (if you follow any atrocity or injustice or corruption to its root, it always comes down to money, it always brings you down to someone trying to make a profit somewhere, usually a very insecure someone, who tries to cover the inner poverty with money, profit, status, power, fame, control etc.). We are living under a very unbalanced and unintelligent capitalist economic and monetary systems that are literally forcing people to put profit above all else if they want to survive.
The best alternatives that I came across on the systemic level are the 'Resource Based Economy' as suggested by the 'Venus Project' and the Zeitgeist movie series.
But no systemic change will ever really solve things fundamentally if we are inwardly corruptible, if we are not slowing down and listening to the deepest truth of our heart, beyond the programming and conditioning that has been instilled in us so deeply (to the point that most of us have forgotten are true inner light, our natural innocence and joy). That's where it all starts. By moving from the life based in the head (concepts, ideas, past and future) to a life based in the heart (this moment, stillness, inner spaciousness/silence, honesty).
These animals need help and all us people can do is to spread this message.... I am just a kid and I have been a vegetarian for years. One reason is bc I am a INSANE animal lover and all I have to say after watching this video is that, any people who work at that torture place need to suffer just as much as all the tigers did and all the elephants did and all the monkeys did!!!!

I am a thai-American with grand parents that were born in Thailand. This disgusts me.the thai people should care more about animals.considierng that fact that thailand is Buddhist country,Buddhism’s priceaples include caring for nauture. People in Thailand who do this are not true budshist.

Breaks my heart they should be able to be outdoors to experience fresh air , to bond with others of their species . We shouldn’t have zoos period . But at least make sure they’re cared for and live in a large enough environment with fresh trees and plants . I’m from San Diego and we have two zoos the animals here are well cared for and are successful at breeding many endangered species who can be released to their natura habitats. Don’t use chains that’s cruel . There’s not need to pet a tiger they’re not pets
Don’t people realise that if you participate in photos with these gorgeous animals, you are really keeping the animal trade alive. The more money they get the more animals they can steal or buy from the wild, torn away from their families just for your entertainment. Shame that we are all animals but it’s only humans that can be so cruel, and I am NOT sorry to say that I truly hope the people who hurt these monkeys, tigers and elephants will all meet their maker and the animals who will trample and beat them to death.
You're correct. These animals and many others were stolen and trafficking from Laos. Laos once known for lands of millions elephants but now hard to find in Laos. Thailand also stolen lumbers, Budda figures, and humans trafficking from neighboring country, Laos.

This is all so disturbing. Please do your research before visiting anywhere that involves animals. AZA accredited facilities in the US promote the conservation of animals. Not torture and misery like this.

Humans are very strange: some are very evil and cruel and behave badly and then other humans come and help, humans who are friendly, helpful and have a good behaviour. Why is that? I think the Indian karnataka/madhyapradesh Government must seriously look into this brutality and initiate to import all these tigers and give a good treatment as does in Karnataka..It is shame for the Thailand govt to treat these largest extant cat species and a member of the genus Panthera..
