  • Hey there, friends & neighbours. I'm back with a new video all about helping you work towards a better groove. I think you'll enjoy this lesson, but I apologize for the background noise. Hopefully, it doesn't distract you from picking up what I'm putting down. Enjoy!

    I challenge anyone who knows about drum genius to do this with funk#5 at 85bpm and NOT get into a groove trance that only a slap in the face can get you out of. C'mon now.

    Ya know…the best musicians are the ones that are truly humble. Bro you can literally see the humility on you. And to be such a beast on bass I have never seen such humility a musician at your level. Keep it up your humility is not going unnoticed!       I just discovered this channel, but that was my thought exactly as well. Really cool to keep the little mistake at 8:04 and not edit it out, it's a humble reminder that not even the experts are perfect!

    Often on internet or on live scenes, we are blown away by flashy skills...BUT return to basics can also give you goosebump !!!

    Excellent video. The persons saying "it's not a bass" have a careless wording. They actually mean "it's not a 4 string bass". They are correct. 😂

    I Was Following Along And I Began Hitting The G & A During The 2 And 3 And 4 And - Together We Rode The G - That Was Feeling Groovy Until You Worked Out The G Minor Shape And THAT Sounded Funky Good - Then You Blew My Mind With Flirting With The Octave Notes - I Am A Beginner So This Is All Common Knowledge Or Given Musical Vocabulary - But For Me, Living Like A Rock Star Right Now

    Awesome lessons, seems so simple but it's really deep. I love it when you put the rest on the 1 as most casual listeners are used to the 1 being there it creates a really cool feel.

    Wow man! Im a guitar player trying to figure out how and why the base is different. Im playing the base far more lately, and i dont want to sound like a guitar player when i play it.     Rich....... If I may, as an older person who loves this idea that I can play the bass just like you.... are offended with the introduction of the new basses that are out their in a setting such as yours. Please understand that as a student its enough to envision the neck of a 4 string with any other ..... such as a 5 or 6 string bass. Advance players are already indoctrinated with a 4 string, and can envision a 5 or 6 string layout..... Heck I'm still trying to get comfortable with a 4 string..... I appreciate your program here and I hope to be as good as you...... someday... thank you for what you do...

    Just getting started with your content as an electric guitar player who is un-schooled on bass and what that entails. My rhythmic feel and vocabulary is definitely in need of improvement, and your lesson feels like a really fun way of working on that. Looking forward to watching more

It would take twenty years for someone to figure this out who didn't pick up on it naturally. What you showed us is in my wheel house but I almost forgot! Back to the basics....

    Hey Rich. New lover and subscriber and liker of your vids here. My praises are the same as everyone else's so I'll just say thank you so much for expanding my bass mind. Question, why do you turn off beats one and three on trusty Anda One?

      Thanks so much for the kind words, and for your question. I turn off beats 1 and 3 to play more to the backbeat. It feels more organic, and by feeling the space I don't have to concentrate on playing to four very robotic clicks. Things just groove more. I hope that makes sense. Thanks again!

      My apologies you stated this, it’s 80 bpm. Mine was set to 38bpm 2/4. New to using a metronome but so extraordinarily important

    Rich, if you are caught needing to play a bass line over a tune you do not know the chord progression to, could you get away with a rhythmic pattern using the minor pentatonic scale related to the key of the song played over the lot. ?
