    Thank you for the review. I just received the watercolors form Jerry's. I bought them on a whim. I couldn't pass up the $5.49 price. Happy to see how vibrant the colors are considering the cost.

    They are indeed 👍. And is extremely popular main brand in China.
    Other good alternative ms are Mei Liang Watercolor set 36 colors ; Sonnet watercolor set 24; and Paul Rubens 36 tubes ( buy from Aliexpress and so cheap.. only 16 dollars ! )

    Thanks for the honest, greatly informative review! I'm very new, wanted to do some beginning botanicals of my own garden this year just for reference and maybe to hang my favorites. So glad to know Jerry's did me a solid with that sale price! I didn't want to do this project with kindergarten paints, but I'm not a pro so I didn't want to invest so much. Now I'm ready to jump in, thanks again!

      +Holly Hoffman I hope so! I've never done any kind of art journal, so I'm excited to try. finally cracked open my marie's and your review is solid. even though I have no experience with more expensive paints I can tell that these are definitely a great value to learn with. I can practice strokes, mixing, blending etc without worrying about wasting money. And like you said, if it's worth keeping, I can without thinking about it. These are perfect for my skill level and my end goals.

    Agreed, I had bought some, somewhere, a few years back, and got them out just now....they are still vibrant out of the tube (some coaxing required, but to be expected) Getting back into it, I totally agree the cheapo paint doesn't perform well. Opaque to wash, these looked fantastic, but the price is now up, but look way better than Hob-Lob intro paints. Thanks!

    I think you can maximize the possibility of these paint by adding glycerin in it since the paint dry rock-hard in pan. And you can add some ox-gall in to improve the flow.
    They're really nice paint for tight-budget beginners.
    And I wonder that have you ever tried the Made-in-China version of Winsor & Newton student watercolor paint,even better than Marries with similar price. But it seems that the product could be purchased only in China?

    holly, have you tried the lukas or soho gouache at Jerry's? lindsay the frugal crafter likes the lukas at jerry's. I have heard marie's are good. thanks for information. I have the reeves and royal langnickel in my area.

      Hi Becky, I have not tried Lukas or Soho, although I have heard mostly good things about those brands. Sets of similar size from those brands cost around 3× as much as Marie's, which may or may not be a factor in your purchasing decision. I have used Reeves watercolor and Marie's is far better quality (pigmentation, intensity, mixing capability, etc). Hope that helps a little :)

    Do they blend well?? Hoping for a reply...

      @holly320Holly  6 лет назад +1

      The Doodlekat Overall they blend quite well! While more expensive, professional brands will have a higher degree of clarity and vibrancy when mixed, I do not find most of these colors to muddy upon mixing, which is always one of my main concerns with inexpensive paints. Hope that helps!

    • @holly320Holly
      @holly320Holly  6 лет назад +1

      Amber Starriray The browns and greens have a little chalkiness to them, but the rest of the colors do not. Even the browns and greens are better than most other sets in this price range.

      Justine Reyes The greens and browns are a little bit chalky, but not as bad as other sets I've tried for the same price.

    Yeah about first time using cheap quality paints... can still remember i did use reeves gouache when i was a teen and it was a horrible expirience!!! Since than i didnt touch gouache colors until sadly a few years ago. Got myself linell and schminke and just thought to myself damn... using cheap art materials, having a really bad first expirience with them and you can miss out some of your most favorite stuff!😅
    So i can say from expirience even if you start with water art medium cheap is not always the best choice for the first time! At least its really important to look a little online watch/read some reviews on the price tag you want to pay and there youll see at least some important infos if theyre good or bad and can avoid throwing out your money and having a nightmare ecpirience for your first time and will later always avoid that medium
