I found this quilt anything but easy to do. The curves were the easy part. I found putting the clams together to be challenging. I was so glad when I actually finished it. It was a struggle and I’ve been sewing quilts for years. Needless to say, this one will not be repeated.
The first thing I do when I wake up on Friday mornings in the UK is watch Jenny’s new tutorial - I love it! Sad to say this morning though that I have no idea how to sew this together. Please don’t rush these tutorials as they really are my key source of both instruction and inspiration. If you could it would be great to show the curve sewing so we can see what you did and how we could do this as I’m feeling a bit flat and frustrated this morning with confusion 🥺
Sue, we are so sorry that you felt like Jenny rushed through this tutorial. Jenny explains sewing a curve very well on the Courtyard Path quilt. Maybe this can help you: ruclips.net/video/orQ_lhDvKAs/видео.html
I just want to share you how much I have learnt from you!!! All the tips & trics helped me to become the quiltster I am now!!! Listening to your voice when I had a burn out helped me through several difficult moments :-). So thank you for all you do and share xxx, please never retire :-) love Ellen (NL)
Soooo..... I now am CONFIDENT I can do this. Curves haves always thrown me for a loop. Not anymore! Thank you Jenny and MSQC for another “look how easy and fun this is” tutorial. Yippee!
My granddaughter and I fell in love with this one! We decided that turned upside down and done in "mermaid colors" it would make a great shower curtain. I was especially happy when my Block magazine came today and this was on the front cover! Thanks for the great tutorials and inspiration!
I just LOVE Jenny!!! She does the BEST job explaining how to quilt. She makes me feel confident and after watching her tutorials, I can't wait to get started. Thank you, Jenny.
This is kinda brilliant. Kudos to whoever figured the drafting on this pattern! I may make a few of these blocks to send to quilting buddies and for practice. Thanks!
Oh my gosh! You are crazy amazing! Who would have thought! You've done it again. I never would have figured it out without you showing it. You've made it easier again. 😃 You are so cool 😎
So, a clamshell quilt is on my list of quilts to make. And I will admit, at the beginning of this tutorial I was thinking this is just extra work and I'd rather just sew together whole clamshells. But now, after watching the whole thing, I'm reconsidering my previous idea. If nothing else, I love learning new tricks and strategies rather than just only one way. You never know what will click with one person and not another. :)
OMG! This is the BEST ever! I made a couple of this clam shell quilt and this is just WOW. No waste ! And easy! Thus is the next ruler template i'll buy!
Oh goodness! This the first MSQC tutorial I will not be making😂 love the quilt, but I really do not like curves. I made a beautiful Apple core table runner and I couldn't wait to be finished. Love Missouri Star Quilt Company, love the beautiful quilt, love the fabric, not a fan of curves. 😘
I love this pattern! My nursery theme is "Forest Fairytale" and I have some of the sweetest mushroom fabric for her rocking chair and ottoman. I'm making this is neutrals and calling it my "Mellow Mushroom" quilt
Jenny you have made this quilt look so easy! But as soon as I start I’ll have to keep going and have you on my big tv so I get it right. Love this one! Great tutorial!! Thank you
Oh Jenny, what have you done to us, to develop those awesome 👏 👏👏 ruler, mamma mia!! Sometimes I think about, from where you get or take your innovation and ideas, I have to take my hat of, and make a vow, THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR YOUR ENTHUSIASTING EFFORTS ! 😍😍 Let me embrace you visionally 😘
love this quilt Jenny going to make one for my granddaughter different shades of pink different shades of white going to call it balloons balloons love it and you
I made a drunkards path a couple of month’s ago. Thank you for showing this, I made mine without pins too, it is really important not to stretch the material and to keep that last bit straight. A shame you didn’t show us your sewing before you ironed it. I’m sure it would have helped people. Also to nest the seams of the units you can press in either direction. The unit let’s you press either way on the curve. Thank you again and I hope your wonderful business and genuine love of all quilters prospers.
Thank you for this tutorial. I have this ruler so it is always great to find another pattern to make using it💕 But a Clamshell has been on my list to try and i actually think i can do it with your video tutorial. Thank you so much for sharing and all the great inspiration y
Okay, I looked at it again, and of course, I forgot, that they are not sewn together yet, so once they are, they will be smaller because of the seam in them. Thank you Jenny, great little quilt.
Great for mermaids! It would look dreamy in only metallic blue, green, and turquoise. Jenny, you're a hoot! You have to "manipulate my curves." Sounds like a workout at the gym!
💕 this pattern!!! My only problem with it (and all your tutorials that I luv Love LOVE) is that I only wanna make bed quilts and I'm still a beginner so I only follow your instructions and I don't know how to calculate how much more to add to make a twin/full/queen/Cali king. Even with that, I actually already purchased that template and now I'm super excited to get my curve on!!! Happy belated birthday! 🎂🎁🎊🎉
It looked hard to begin but it came together so simply. I can do it! I didn't understand why the section was cut on the large template but I don't have to understand the geometry to sew it-lol.
Is there any other patterns that can be made with this template set? I would love to see more examples that you can use the large template for. It’s always a plus to use it for multiple patterns as Jenny would say!
Just take it nice and slow, and we know you can conquer the curves! Jenny explains a bit more about sewing curves in the Courtyard Path quilt tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/orQ_lhDvKAs/видео.html We hope this helps! :)
I've decide to attempt this as my first quilt. I'm curious you couldn't sew each clam together first (the straight seams), then sew all the curves. I would think sewing the 4 pieces of each clam first would ensure they match up nice.
I have seen a curved log cabin block where a solid was used on the “skinny” side and colours used on the big side, and then a curve is cut and a solid curved piece is used on the colour so when 4 blocks line that go together they make like a curved 4point star. Would your tool do that on the edges, do you think?
I love Jenny and MSQC but this is NOT a quilt I wouid try to make. It will take a billion years just to make the first 7 rows... But this quilt Jenny worked on is beautiful...
Tammy Soto have you tried making a couple of units. It really is easy. I made a random scrappy drunkards path recently, it was such fun and my first time on curves.
I LOVE this quilt, but it's not one that I'll be making. Nope, not in a bazillion years will I make this! But if anyone wants to make one for me, I will not stop you!
I would love to do this one and buy this but I don't understand how do use. The termplate is 10x10 and cut out is 4x5. So were do the other sizes come in play on the template? Plase tell
Jenny likes to "crumb quilt" so she keeps almost anything. It's totally up to you! If you feel like you can turn a certain size scrap into something, keep it! If not, it's okay to toss too. :)
I think I’m missing the whole thing. The shells you just did Jenny seem so much wider than the ones in the quilt, no? I’ll have to watch it again. I’m not catching on but what a cute quilt.
Is there anyway to use this drunkard's path template to make bigger clamshells? The template seems much larger than necessary if it is only for this one size. Is there a reason for that?
Hi, gmstovall! You can purchase a thimble cup by clicking on the first link below, and make your own pincushion for it following this tutorial found by clicking on the second link below. Love this method of doing clamshell - so clever! I have to say though, Rob's Shark ¿applicutter? (the actual name escapes me right now) would be excellent for trimming inside the curves.
At the beginning, when Jenny gets two of the 5" squares to cut with the small template - - Does it matter if the 5" squares are right sides together? 1:31 on the video.
The small ones are easy and quick. When I did my very first curves I actually started at the center and sewed outward in each direction. I did that until I was comfortable sewing from the edges.
I found this quilt anything but easy to do. The curves were the easy part. I found putting the clams together to be challenging. I was so glad when I actually finished it. It was a struggle and I’ve been sewing quilts for years. Needless to say, this one will not be repeated.
I was thinking this one wasn't as easy as she was saying. I really appreciate your honest feedback.

It looks just like The Rainbow Fish. So cute!
I just LOVE Jenny!!! She does the BEST job explaining how to quilt. She makes me feel confident and after watching her tutorials, I can't wait to get started. Thank you, Jenny.
Thank you SO MUCH Jenny, for making this pattern make sense to my brain!!! I have wanted to do this pattern FOREVER!
Thank you for making the clam shell so easy to do.
So beautiful! Who would have thought a clam shell from a drunkard path! Gotta make this one for sure!! Thank you for the inspiration!!
This is kinda brilliant. Kudos to whoever figured the drafting on this pattern! I may make a few of these blocks to send to quilting buddies and for practice. Thanks!
I love this. This will make an adorable baby quilt for my first grandchild due in November.
I love when you show different things to do with the rulers.
Oh Jenny you inspire us!
Oh my gosh! You are crazy amazing! Who would have thought! You've done it again. I never would have figured it out without you showing it. You've made it easier again. 😃 You are so cool 😎
Oh gosh!!! I didn't think I'd EVER do a clamshell... Oh gosh I was wrong!!! Y'all are amazing!

J'adore cette technique pour réaliser les clamshell. Merci pour vos tutoriels.
Maravillosa !!! Como siempre. Gracias por compartir tus enseñanzas

Laura Renda have you thought of English paper piecing for the same shape?
@@Tbirdcarr1 no I hadn't thought of that process 😄 but, thank you. This could be an alternative I will consider. Thanks so much.
Awesome quilt. It looks like mermaid scales.

Game changer! I love this idea!
Thank you for this tutorial! You make it look so easy. I can't wait to see what other quilts you can make with this ruler set.
i love this pattern i have some cut up denim material going to make a picnic quilt for my grandsons wedding gift!!

I am very excited to see this quilt pattern. I have a quilt store full of five inch squares of fabric.
What an amazing way to make clamshells! Thank you for the tutorial.
love this quilt Jenny going to make one for my granddaughter different shades of pink different shades of white going to call it balloons balloons love it and you
That was great!!! Thank you Jenny!!
I love a quilt pattern that doesn't use background fabric! I happen to have these templates as well so I might need to make this one. Thanks, Jenny!
We can't wait to see what yours looks like! :)
So happy I have this template already. Great tutorial
Brilliant! I never would have been able to see this
I have been WAITING for this! Thank you, thank you, thank you Jenny!

Jenny, you make everything look so easy! I love your tutorials. 😎
Jenny you need to do a whole lay out sew it. Driving me crazy
I will certainly try it one of these days!
that's a neat pattern!

I ordered dunkers path ruler! I love your tutorials!
Thank you for showing this variation of the tool.....this was the pattern I was waiting for, snipping the small piece sides will I think. Thank you
I liked this video and the clam shell pattern. Thanks your great I watch you often and learn.
Beautiful beautiful thank you for sharing
So clever ❤
Oh wow, I love this quilt and the fabrics are divine
Love this!!!! Super. Thank you, Jenny! 💕
Wow this great. Love this!
AAwesome Job!!!
Really cute! I am one of those quilters who have curve phobia! Lol!
We believe in you!
Very cool
Okay, I looked at it again, and of course, I forgot, that they are not sewn together yet, so once they are, they will be smaller because of the seam in them. Thank you Jenny, great little quilt.
O M G...this is MAD CRAZY clever! FanTAStic tutorial! Thank you!
Love this! I am thinking about using just one charm pack to make a baby quilt.
Thank you very much!
That is so cute... It would be adorable if you could put encouraging word every so often on the clams!!
Love this quilt!! Thank you Jenny💗🌸!!!🤠
It has to be said “4 charm packs or one layer cake”😍😍
Love your tutoring
Thought you were in Hannibal till I went through Hamilton😮
Lovely
Appreciate showing us how to use the cut off piece.
Great for mermaids! It would look dreamy in only metallic blue, green, and turquoise. Jenny, you're a hoot! You have to "manipulate my curves." Sounds like a workout at the gym!
Спасибо хороший совет из лоскутков
Do some jeweled colors and turn it the other way and you have mermaid scales! Love the tutorial, make me want to try!
That would make a really neat quilt!

Thanks Jenny and team!
Very effective Jenny. Those curves look scary but your instructions and demonstration really helps. Thanks
It looked hard to begin but it came together so simply. I can do it! I didn't understand why the section was cut on the large template but I don't have to understand the geometry to sew it-lol.
Angie Detlefsen it allows for the seam allowance. Otherwise the pieces would not lie flat when sewn.
Love it! Thanks Jenny! ❤️❤️❤️
Is there any other patterns that can be made with this template set? I would love to see more examples that you can use the large template for. It’s always a plus to use it for multiple patterns as Jenny would say!
Oh goodie I’m first tonight. Oh this is definitely a fun looking quilt. Nice job Jenny.
Bellissimo
Wow I’m not ready for that , I’m too new to quilting I can barely keep my hst in line lol
Give it time, you'll be quilting curves in no time!
From whaaaa? to ta da! : )
I fear the curve... much like some people fear the turtle. No I did not go to the University of Maryland, but go Terps!
Just take it nice and slow, and we know you can conquer the curves! Jenny explains a bit more about sewing curves in the Courtyard Path quilt tutorial here: ruclips.net/video/orQ_lhDvKAs/видео.html We hope this helps! :)
Great tutorial as always
Read your little cheat sheet
Sweater color? Hehe made me smile.
I've decide to attempt this as my first quilt. I'm curious you couldn't sew each clam together first (the straight seams), then sew all the curves. I would think sewing the 4 pieces of each clam first would ensure they match up nice.

I’m in the market for a new machine and am definitely eyeing the Eversewn brand. Just wondering which model Jenny is using in this video? Thanks!
I would love to do this one and buy this but I don't understand how do use. The termplate is 10x10 and cut out is 4x5. So were do the other sizes come in play on the template? Plase tell
I don't know if you've mentioned it in another video but how little is too little to keep?
Jenny likes to "crumb quilt" so she keeps almost anything. It's totally up to you! If you feel like you can turn a certain size scrap into something, keep it! If not, it's okay to toss too. :)

I have to say though, Rob's Shark ¿applicutter? (the actual name escapes me right now) would be excellent for trimming inside the curves.
It is the Shark Applicutter! And you are right, it would be very helpful!
❤
Now I'm curious what this would look like with 4 different colored pieces.
Try it out and let us know!
Why are you not using a Babylock machine like you used to?
Is the Twisted Clam Shell next?
does it matter if you have all of the 5" squares right side up? Or put wrong sides together of matching color 5" squares?
Wendy, we are sorry to say, but we aren't entirely sure how to answer your questions. Can you restate it?
At the beginning, when Jenny gets two of the 5" squares to cut with the small template - - Does it matter if the 5" squares are right sides together?
1:31 on the video.
Who else noticed that they note hat sweater color she wears on the printed notes
Good eye, Greta! :)
It looks like it could be a mermaid quilt if you display it the other way :)
I'm thinking mermaid, dragon or fish scales
I thought mermaids too! Maybe a cute border with mermaids printed on it!!!
It’s a cool looking quilt, but I’m not comfortable sewing curves.
The small ones are easy and quick. When I did my very first curves I actually started at the center and sewed outward in each direction. I did that until I was comfortable sewing from the edges.
@@angiesewtherapy6628 That is a very helpful tip! Thanks so much for sharing!
Just be sure, on the small ones, to make the curve pretty if you start in the center.
I can not get your guilt as you go video from 20 hours ago to play. I hope you can help..
