The effect makes sense given his ability to nullify the abilities of devil fruit users. I think they’ve done a great job of making sure abilities coincide with the techniques and styles of corresponding characters (i.e., Enel’s revival/heart jump starting, Law’s place swapping, and Crocodile’s sandstorm/bouncing). In my opinion it makes the experience better opposed to applying random effects to cards without logical justification.

The wierd part of this leader is it can never run the good generic black engine. No Moria, No Hina ect ect. Cards like jack tho with an act main can be hudge. We need to see his kit.
Considering new Sanji will be one of his natural enemies, what if there will be Blackbeard focused cards that shut down opponent's rush abilities, it will be so doomed
766 / 5 000 Farewell Green Uta... did you like your ST16 for 3 month? As much as the leader can be bad if he doesn't have any support cards, he can just destroy almost all current decks. Just discarding a card isn't strong enough considering he's playing black, and he might have cards with activate main playing with his trash... If you know the meta, you simply nullify an entire deck. And I don't think in op09 there's going to be much support in other colors to counter that. When we already had a glimpse of the purple/green odyssey leader... The effect of the Leader should have been to take 1HP and limit giving him 6 HP at a pinch... Then... The leader couldn't have been monoblue? why another completely cracked black leader? At bandaï, choose your color! Black or yellow?
This is a dangerous direction for card effects to go down, preventing your opponent from playing cards is almost never a fun addition to a tcg, it's one of the things that caused Yugioh to essentially become Solitaire mixed with a coin flip. It has been done well a few times, but usually it just leads to increased power creep to overcome it, making things even worse.
They do a good job of coinciding leaders with their anime effects… Not sure there would be another leader with this effect so shouldnt be too widespread. And the cards to support will likely have terrible on play effects to psudo leader lock
This exact thing is why I dropped MTG Arena almost as quickly as I picked it up. Was playing people who took their turn on my turn, then dropped a card that skipped my next turn. But having said that, I don't think that this is a rabbit hole that the one piece tcg is going to go down, it's just 1 leader that negates 1 mechanic. If turn skipping comes into it, then we're screwed.
